thick eyebrows pull together slightly at the other man’s reaction when he had begun speaking ; he’s pretty sure he hasn’t said anything strange, or at least anything that might warrant such a reaction. perhaps it merely stems from the fact that the only other times newt has met “him”, he’s either attacked or sentenced him and tina to DEATH ( illegally, he should add ). it’s plenty understandable, so percival doesn’t dwell on it.
while he understands that the englishman isn’t fully responsible, he’s still the one that unmasked grindelwald ; from what he can gather tina had SUSPICIONS much earlier than the showdown in the subway, likely from since their interrogation ended, though he expects as much from her as one of his aurors. a magizoologist? not so much. still, he’s glad for the man’s part in stopping the madman’s plan, however small or large it was. something A LOT worse could have happened if he were to left to remain as he was…though that’s not to discount the unfortunate death of the barebones boy. percival understands why it had to happen, but that doesn’t make him feel any BETTER about it.
“not to worry : her involvement isn’t bein’ downplayed,” he changes his line of thought. normally such matters wouldn’t be spoken of to anyone outside of his departments, but he figures this is an exception. “given the situation with the second salamers has…resolved itself, to put it mildly, she’ll be gettin’ reinstated when i return to work.” whenever THAT is, he gripes mentally, feeling a familiar weight shift against his injured arm. percival flexes his fingers, nothing but the barest of twitches across his features to indicate any sort of pain. “fortunate indeed. i hear yer returnin’ to finish writin’ a..book of some sort?”
“I’m relieved to hear that.” He sounds it, too. Newt can’t quite help the gentle quirk at the corner of his mouth, a hint of a genuine, satisfied smile. If there’s one thing that should come of all this, it’s that Tina should be reinstated as an Auror; he’s certain she’ll be thrilled when she hears she’s being returned to her old position, if she hasn’t already been told. While he may not be overly fond of Aurors, if mostly due to his own less-than-pleasant interactions with them in the past... Tina has endeared herself to him during their time working together, and she is much more the type of person he’d like to see in such a position than most of the others he’s met.
A soft exhale, not exactly a sigh but still carrying a thankful edge to it, and he shifts slightly in his seat, head lifting at the question of his book. Of all the things he’d have expected to be spread throughout MACUSA, he can’t say that he’d have thought that knowledge of his book would be on the list. His reason for coming to America being to release a rescued Thunderbird, his smuggling in of a great number of magical creatures from all over the world, his near expulsion from Hogwarts... All of those seem far more likely ( and likely are out there, as well ), and yet apparently, somewhere along the line, someone felt it important to take note of his writing a book. And Graves, evidently, found it important ( or interesting? ) enough to ask him about. --Not that this is something Newt minds, of course, though it is somewhat frustrating how, in most cases when he discusses it, he has to explain that it is not an extermination guide, nor some sort of pest control guide.
“Yes. Well, it’s already written, now it’s simply a matter of organizing and editing it,” he explains with a rather vague hand gesture, gaze flitting up to Graves’ face once more, then down to his coffee cup, then back down to the table. “Putting on the finishing touches before it gets published. --It’s about magical creatures; something of an in depth guide to all of the ones which we’re aware exist currently. It’s, uhm, meant to educate those unfamiliar with truths about these creatures.”
