In all my 15 years of reading fanfiction, I have never been in rare pair hell (I’m just basic like that I guess?) but I spend one day, ONE, in the ghostbat tag and I am bemoaning the lack of material.

Why did I have to be bored and look for a new hyperfixation? Why did I choose this one of all things 😭

DC has the audacity to throw me into rare pair hell not once, but TWICE? Granted bruharvey isn’t as rare or unknown as ghostbat (in my opinion) BUT what do you mean there are only 16 pages of completed, English stories? Ghostbat had 10 pages! It’s only 6 more pages…

You’re telling me that Bruce ‘Paranoia Is A Way of Life’ Wayne, Bat ‘I Have Contingencies For My Contingency’s Contingency’ Man, didn’t have something set up for his inevitable death? This walking dumpster fire of a man, who hides in the shadows, finds a way to fly somehow by shooting hooks at buildings, who knows that he could die at any moment. Didn’t. Have. A. Plan?

So that when he does “die”, his children are left flailing about. Running into each other like panicked little ducklings wondering how to go on? I know that brooding blob knows Dick would rather eat glass than put on his pointy cowl.

Every time I read DC fanfiction, I am fighting for MY LIFE trying NOT to imagine Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent as Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. I refuse 😭 (Don’t even get me started on Gal Gadot.)

I’ve always pictured them as their comic/animated selves. Whenever the humans flash across my mind I will stare at Dan Mora and Jorge Jiménez’s art until I feel better.

Set out to read all (I know it's HUNDREDS) of the published Star Trek novels as a new hobby/reading challenge.

Started with Mission to Horatius by Mack Reynolds. Needless to say, it was... fascinating (?). There were some pretty backwards and outright racist themes throughout the book. Which kind of (not really) makes sense, as it was written in 1968. (I mean come on, why are we comparing Spock's physical features to satan? Multiple times?! Or, do I 'mistakenly' take it as racist because I'm naturally quick to think that Spock is Jewish coded because of Nimoy's portrayal? OR. MAYBE. We just don't characterize nice aliens as satanic?) I also didn't much enjoy the characterization of Jim. He didn't have the same compassion and empathy that I'm used to seeing in shows/movies and reading in fanfiction.

Also, while the United Federation of Planets ‘isn't a military entity' it's heavily written like one in this novel. Which goes to show the lack of radical and imaginative thinking of what a universe 'without social issues' would be. Even if that’s in a far off future where such issues are ‘outdated’.

Besides that, Bones, they could never make me hate you. The most sensible person inside that damn tin can. The Enterprise is toast without its good ol' country doctor ❤️

I'm excited to read the other novels written by the different authors though! It's neat to see the varying interpretations of this universe and its characters! Next on the list is, Spock Must Die!
