I can’t believe I’m saying this so soon after coming back to the platform, but I’m taking an (indefinite) break from tumblr. Partnering with AI training companies to scrape and steal the art and work of tumblr users is beyond despicable. This site has no redeeming qualities left.

About me:

I’m 26, bisexual, and Scottish. Any pronouns are fine. Call me “Pteraphylax” or “Ptera”!

I identify as trans, but thinking about gender beyond that gives me migraines.

I’m a writer and an artist, but I created this blog to have a separate internet presence for fanfic stuff, so I likely won’t be posting any of it here.

I have a degree in Religious Studies & History of Art, the uselessness of which is negated by the fact that I’m too disabled to work anyway (win!).

I am autistic and chronically ill, and I do post about it alongside fandom stuff. I try to tag it as #autism #chronic illness #cptsd if you want to avoid it.

Right now I’m obsessed with Baldur’s Gate 3, but Elder Scrolls is my longest and strongest gaming special interest. I will also post birds and other random nonsense. I was originally going to keep this blog more BG3 focused, but I can’t ignore Elder Scrolls, or LotR, etc…

AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.

Here are the important details:

We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner. 

We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.

To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option. 

For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc. 

Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.

PSA: Tumblr/Wordpress is preparing to start selling our user data to Midjourney and OpenAI.

you have to MANUALLY opt out of it as well.

to opt out on desktop, click your blog ➡️ blog settings ➡️ scroll til you see visibility options and it’ll be the last option to toggle.

to opt out on mobile, click your blog ➡️ scroll then click visibility ➡️ toggle opt out option.

if you’ve already opted out of showing up in google searches, it’s preselected for you. but you also have to opt out for each blog you own separately, so if you’d like to prevent AI scraping your blog i’d really recommend taking the time to opt out. (source)

Do you ever start writing something that you’re excited about and that seems like it’s turning out well and that you’re getting eager to share, and then you start typing it up or doing an edit pass and it’s just awful it’s awful its premise is fundamentally flawed and it’s out of character and the prose is clunky and the plot is badly paced and ludicrous and the whole thing is embarrassing, how could you have done this, how could you have sunk so much time into this, you can’t even look at it, how is this that shining thing you were so excited about, how could you even have considered finishing it let alone sharing it with anyone, you’re crying, your mother is crying, nuns are spontaneously exploding in the streets,

Option 1: Scratch is scared of Astarion like a horse who crossed paths with a witch.

Option 2: Scratch is Astarion's dog. The reason is before they knew he was a vampire he was giving the dog his portion of dinner that way it looked like he cleared the plate.

Option 3: Scratch does that thing where dogs try to rub the sides of their head against dead things bc they like the smell but on Astarion's legs so he is constantly covered in white dog fur.
