for those rusty with geography, i made a little map. the red circle is the bab al-mandab strait, which yemen has almost complete control over. the yellow arrows are the trade route that israel previously took. the blue is how they’re having to route their ships now:

use comic sans to write

i hate this so much but this knowledge is too powerful to keep from you all.

last night @phaltu discovered that setting your font to comic sans in google docs improves writing speed and creativity by an insane amount. “no” i said and “die” but then i tried it and god. i wish it wasn’t this way. i wish it wasn’t true. i wish i could protect you all from this but it’s real. 

something about this font is so disarming. something about this font lets you look past the shape of the words and into their soul. i’ve never written so much as i did last night, on my phone, at 2am, in comic sans.

if you have writer’s block. if you lack inspiration. if you need this. don’t be afraid to use it. sometimes the things we find most horrifying are also the things we need the most. trust me. let comic sans into your life.

My guess is it’s the same psychology as some great advice I got for manual writing years back: when you’re stuck, write on one of those ugly yellow legal pads.  Using a font you can’t take seriously has a similar impact to using a notebook you can’t take seriously - it makes the entire process feel like it’s much lower stakes.

hey im remaking this post (10/12/2020) since the last one has nearly 5k notes but hasnt gotten a donation in nearly a week. to sum up: my family and i are poor. most of us are out of work because of the pandemic. i work, but wont get paid for a while. i applied for food stamps, but dont qualify to receive ANY benefits. i need money so that i can help pay for food and other essentials for my household. on top of that, i need to start coming up with $200 so that my femme can come stay with us for a month (he is taking the train from ohio, so the price of the tickets+extra money to cover additional bags is not cheap). anything ppl can spare means multitudes, and we are so so grateful for all the help we have been given so far. i would preder if donations went to my paypal, but if you dont have it or only have cashapp/venmo u can dm me (i will turn on dms from ppl i dont follow). thanks in advance!

10/18/2020 hey donations have completely stalled again and i only hav $37 to last me till who knows when cuz my entire paycheck (the one i still havent gotten from work) os all going into paying our rent this month. i dont know how much our other bills are going to be, but given we dont have any fucking money we are going to need help with that too. my phone bill is due friday and its $110 and i dont fuckin have it. im literally desperate please send literally anything u can spare if everyone whose reblogged this so far had sent. like. even just a dollar id have enoigh to pay for my phone bill and probably the other bills as well. thank you to those who have helped so far

10/27/2020 hey all i managed to get bills and stuff paid. my wife is raising money for us to get a new bed and frame cuz the current one we have is terrible for their back. however, once we have enough to order it, i will have no money until my next paycheck, which isnt 4 a couple weeks. i finally got approved for food stamps, but i will still need money to pay for transportation, as well as starting to invest in winter clothes for me and my wife, since they moved here from miami and don't own any, and i couldn't afford to buy any last year so i don't have any either. again, reblogs and donations help IMMENSELY! also, if you can, please do not mark donations sent to me as being "for goods and services", as that increases the likelihood that my paypal is going to get shut down (again) for not being able to provide tax documents to prove i am a business (even though i am not a business). i know some folks in certain countries only have that option, but id really really like to avoid having to remake my paypal for the fourth time. being jewish does not negate being white. she was white. she was jewish. she was both. i myself am also a white jew. JEWISH IS NOT A RACE. it is an ethnicity and religion. the idea that jewish is a race is literally nazi ideology.
