Trachoma pannus keratitis, 1916
One of two views of a female trachoma patient: on left her eyes are closed, in this image she is attempting to open her eyes with her hands. Trachoma is a chronic contagious disease of the eye characterized by inflammation of the conjunctiva and cornea and the formation of scar tissue, caused by infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. Pannus is an abnormal vascular thickening of the cornea. It occurs most often in conjunction with trachoma. Keratitis is an inflammation of the cornea.

Kagero (Mayfly) - Daido MORIYAMA | shashasha 写々者
Traveling down memory lane and going back 50 years in time, I arrived at a small and nameless village at the cape of a certain peninsula. What I found there were five naked women, all equally tied up with ropes, and with dazed looks on their faces. So I got out my camera and spontaneously began to take photographs. It was a strange day; a day like an ephemeral vision. – Afterword by Daido Moriyama
Originally published in 1972 under the name Kagero (Mayfly), this rare and out of print book of Daido Moriyama reveals a lesser known aspect of the street photographer’s work through this gorgeous Kinbaku nude series made with Oniroku Dan, a celebrated writer of SM novels in Japan. Re-published by Akio Nagasawa in a luxurious cardboard slipcover, includes unreleased images. Signed.
