Thinking about rockstar! Robert. Who's not exactly washed up, or buried in the obscurity of Torrance, but slowly decaying there.

It's not that passion isn't there. Or talent. He's got enough of that to sell out stadium, after stadium, after stadium.

All of his songs are recycled verses his father didn't get to say. Which his manager, Elliot, advises him to keep. Because maybe Robert feels, but Robbie sold.

And he mostly disowns the idea of becoming more than this. An instrument for a man who's not here to play it.

Except when he tours Torrance again. And finds a secluded, sunspot of a place called Sunseed Lane.

It's homey. Diner-sized. Warm. Each table has a pack of crayons for kids to draw on, which feels like a thoughtful intention.

It’s constructed with domesticity, almost.

The tall, glaring, handsome waiter who immediately scrutinizes his order? Less so.

The first thing Robert notices is the eyes. Maybe it's just the pretty, warm lighting gliding over bright irises, but Robert can swear they glow.

“…Are you gonna ask me what I want?”

“Are you gonna waste my time with a fucking sandwich? This isn't a gas station. Sit the fuck down. “

Robert does. Before he even thinks about it. And they talk. The waiter’s name is Flambae — who's actually Chad, but likes the nickname because his dad thinks it's funny.

He works fire like Robert works a bass guitar. He’s a metahuman. Which Robert didn't figure out until he dipped his finger in bubbling oil and didn't flinch.

“So, what do you do for work? Besides annoying hot guys.”

And it downs on Robert, right there and then. That maybe everyone in Torrance has a favorite song from Mecha Man. But here, now, to this man, he's unknown.

“…I sing. When I’m allowed.”

And Chad snorts, a little, but it's not malicious enough to be mean. “If you have to be allowed, it's not really singing, is it?”

Robert just asks him why he even stayed over program, if he didn't know who Robert was. And Chad shrugs, a little, focused on his task.

“Cause you look hungry. Why else?”

And Robert doesn’t think he can be judged for how fast he grabs a pencil and starts scribbling. On his arm, on his napkins, anywhere.

Chad bonks his head with a spoon like he's done it before, and will again.

‘Sunshine Goliath’ is a very fitting album name, he thinks.
