I have something inappropriate to say about the guy from wings
Resident saves over $900 after discovering resources at local library
They discovered nearly 200 free resources, including newspaper subscriptions and free passes to local museums and cultural centers.
This is often the case no matter where you're from, btw.
I don't want my cellphone to have AI I want it to have 3 days of battery time. I don't want my computer to have AI preinstalled I want it to have seven usb ports and high ram at affordable price. I don't want my games to have AI built levels I want them to be so optimized I could run them on a nokia.
Ownership meant a physical copy. Now you own nothing and can't find what you want across multiple streaming platforms.
Bring back headphones that plug in. Bring back expandable memory. Bring back owning media.
The show's been off for 6 years and the cw is barely a network anymore. The WB is about to be absorbed. This social media manager is just destiel posting for the love of the game at this point

do not downplay people’s fears about being mistreated because they are a part of a marginalised group. it is a matter of life and death and you should be angry about it.

I've known a number of non binary people in my life and I think single biggest conclusion I can draw from that is that non binary people are not the same. Like if Men fit in box A and women fit in box B, people really, really want nonbinary people to fit in a theoretical box C, and it just doesn't work like that. They are outside the boxes. They defy any simple categorization because they are not a third way of being, but every other possible way of being.
Being supportive of binary people is relatively simple, they have decided to sort themselves into one of the boxes that we have lots of experience interacting with. Being supportive of nonbinary people can be comparatively tricky, because you have to resist the urge to create box C and drop them all there. That's how we end up with various prejudices like "woman lite". Humans really, really like to categorize things. It helps us think. Unfortunately, sometimes it helps us think wrong.
If you have a non binary person in your life, I think it is important to take the extra effort to learn about them specifically.
#frankly boxes a and b work this way too if you're not operating under systemic delusions
Ok I understand what is being said here, but I disagree. Binary gender can be just as personalized and unique as non binary gender, but there is a world of practical difference between someone who is binary enough that they can give you man or woman as a starting point that society at large understands and has a place for, and someone who has to start from scratch with nearly everyone they ever meet.
When I say I am a trans woman, I am declaring that I fit inside the societal space for "women" well enough for that to be a solid basis for others to understand and interact with my gender. Even though there is a great deal of nuance within "woman", I generally feel I am in many ways skirting the edge of that category, and society is often hostile to me based on my declared gender, the fact I am able to align myself this closely with a binary gender gives me a great deal of advantages that non binary people do not have.
There is a temptation as trans binary people to say that because our gender is just as nuanced and personal as a nonbinary person (which is true) and our declared gender is often rejected (also true), the fact we align with the major accepted categories does not give us major advantages - which simply isn't the case. Being binary comes with a good deal of privilege that is almost invisible to us, but non binary people have to deal with lacking that privilege.
It is that gap in privilege I am talking about specifically. It is that gap in privilege that makes it necessary for us to put extra effort into understanding non binary people. So no, binary genders do not work the same way.
And look, if you find that using a binary starting point is more of a hindrance to people understanding you than a help, it might be worth considering if you are non binary.
you have to be fucking kidding me
We should bring back forest green.
The Hobbit movies would have been vastly improved by going the same route as the The Princess Bride movie
Just constant cuts to the future with Frodo chiming in as Bilbo tells the story to be like “that’s not how you told it when I was little!” and “wait, you never mentioned these orcs chasing you!”
And Bilbo hems and haws like “well, I didn’t want to scare the children” etc and we see the same scene get replayed multiple times with slight variations as Frodo and Bilbo bicker about the details of what actually happened
(And then we can do an extra gut-punch at the end where Bilbo tells the little kids “yeah, the dwarves were all fine, nobody died, they recovered from their wounds and went on to rule the kingdom” and maybe we get a glimpse of a universe where that happened… but Bilbo turns away as soon as the children are gone and stared out the window while he relives the truth all over again 😭)
plus we could have seen the original version where Gollum just gave the ring to Bilbo as the prize in the riddle contest, and then have Frodo say "That's funny because Gandalf told me...." and then the true version, at which point Bilbo clears his throat awkwardly and looks at the ceiling.
hey white people . if u dont know how to pronounce an ethnic persons name *google it* or if its someone ur talking directly to *ask them*. dont fucking do that "erm i dont know how to pronounce but __" or "im gonna butcher this haha" or "im not even gonna bother trying" . ur not funny. do u know what poc think when they hear u saying that ? u sound like a loser asshole and we dont want to spend time with u . im so fucking tired of watching youtube videos about media from my country and hearing those phrases. im tired of people saying that to my face . i respect someone who clearly looked it up and is tryong but says my name wrong over someone who just goes with whatever bad first guess they had without trying. u have too many resources at ur disposal to keep doing this. for the love of god just Fucking Try. if ur confused Just Try.
I highly recommend Forvo.com, the website where native speakers of a language contribute their time and voices to read words and names in their own language. It is a fantastic way to expand your world, open up your ears, and it's way more likely to nab a hit than just googling.
wow , I didn't know this existed, thanks so much for sharing the resource !! I will absolutely be using it now too 🖤
scientists are in labs right now creating the thinnest and worst material known to mankind so they can make women’s clothing
Spaghetti strands that are 200 times thinner than a human hair could be woven into bandages to help prevent infections
Technically they're using it for bandages. For now.
Quote from the article
The resulting “nanopasta” can then be spun into a tiny mat about 2 centimetres across. While it isn’t intended as food, Clancy says that it should be safe to eat, but is reticent to talk about having tried it. “It’s an ethical quandary to talk about scientific self-experimentation,” he says. “But, hypothetically, one might expect it to be chewier than you’d expect.”
Oh he's definitely eating it
scientists are in labs right now creating the thinnest and worst material known to mankind so they can surreptitiously eat it
Less “What if the Nazis won WWII” Alternate Timeline fiction, more “What if the Nazis didn’t kill 6 million Jews”.
Why do you assume ours is the good timeline?
we should bring back the directional (Locative) Adverbs: Hither, Hence, Thither, Thence, Whither, Whence, Yonder, and Yons
lets go through the meanings to better
Hither means to here, so come hither means come to here to this place
Hence means from here, from this place (hence its other meaning of from this idea to another)
Whither means to where? what is the place it is going?
Whence means from What or Where? from where something came (go back whence you came)
Thither means to there, to that place (go thither and do your task)
Thence means to That or there, Thither is the place they will go
Yonder means to Yond (Yond is a form of There but for distance) so it means to that place far away
Yons means from that place far away, from Yence it shall go
unfortunately a couple of these have been rendered superfluous by Grammatical shifts and To deletion, but they are useful for writing if you want to sound cool
Yonder is also fun because its not a native English one its a borrowing from Old Norse hence why it has a different form
I am actually thinking lots about how the Bucky fanfiction scene after Captain America: The Winter Soldier delved so deep into how that level of torture and mind control would actually affect a person, and the fragmentation of Bucky's personal identity, in many cases exploring how Bucky would never be the person Steve knew ever again.
They explored the effects of PTSD that he would suffer and realistically dealt with how it would affect him mentally to be not allowed to make choices, to be mentally and psychologically abused to that extent and how he would struggle to adjust once he was safe. They even dug into the uglier realities of torture as it exists in real life, showing Bucky as a survivor of sexual violence
Also, lots of fanfics portrayed Bucky as being physically disabled after his time as the Winter Soldier. Like, there were multiple fics I read where he has a feeding tube that described that with realism, and several more where he has various GI tract difficulties after being tube-fed throughout his stint as a living weapon. Multiple fics that describe him having seizures, at least two fics where he is addicted to heroin and suffers withdrawals from that, also fics where the arm is removed and he has to adjust to life as an amputee
And then, when you return to canon, of course they're not interested in the long-term mental and physical effects of The Horrors at all, except for a little bit of Hollywood PTSD.
Film franchises rarely explore the actual physical and mental effects that would be suffered by action heroes due to the events and injuries they endure in canon, but the level of investment in the Implications on the part of the fans vs. the actual people in charge of the franchise is SO stark here.
thinks about how the superhero genre portrays idealized, invulnerable, perfected bodies, almost grotesque and unreal in their perfection, and portrays violence against those bodies as so clean and without consequences.
Maybe this could be generalized to action heroes in general.
In an action movie it is unthinkable, for a hero to be weak except in narrow pre-defined ways that are well reinforced and armored by reassurance of said character's strength and masculinity and broadly normative body.
But in the fanfictional universe, so many storytellers let the blow of that accumulated violence against body and mind actually land.
