a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

I wish they would realize that universal healthcare doesn’t mean they HAVE to get healthcare through the state, just that it is there. You can still pay millions of dollars out of pocket for your own treatment at a private hospital.

As someone who works for a health insurance company, I can tell you that the Venn diagram between "Commercial Health Insurance Medical Policy" and "Medicare/Medicaid Medical Policy" is closer to a circle than you think.
Also, your friendly neighborhood megacorporation can "self-fund" policies, which means they make their own rules and pay an insurance company to serve primarily as an administrator for backend stuff like claims payouts and service questions.
Would you rather trust a CFO with your medical care?
I KNOW. That was what made me so angry about that. You do not trust the government to make choices about your healthcare (valid, the United States government has made terrible decisions about healthcare) but you trust your insurance to decide if you deserve your surgery or not? Socialized medicine puts more power in the hands of doctors, so many doctors are distinctly frustrated with the health insurance system deciding what their patient needs or does not need to survive and denying necessary treatment because it is expensive and there is another (ineffective) treatment. Our medical system in the US is not working, I don’t know one person who has not had a negative experience, it kills people, it incentivizes people to ignore symptoms and warning signs until they are too sick to treat, we have massive healthcare deserts in poor areas because for-profit medicine does not want to help people if you cannot make money off it.
