Ok Lets watch Steven Universe

Cheeseburger Backpack

At the very start of this episode we meet Jamie! A throw away character? Nah uh, think again! I love him

This episode focuses on Steven going on his first Crystal Gems mission! He stuffs his pack with so many helpful things.

He wants to prove his resourcefulness and is able to solve a couple of the obstacles with the contents of his giant cheeseburger backpack!

Unfortunately, he fails to bring the one thing needed to save the spire. This episode shows that Steven needs space to figure out how to solve problems in his own Steven-y way.

It shows that sometimes mistakes are ok, like losing the raft and others are more costly, like forgetting the moon statue.

Also, it's revealed later, but this whole episode is a test to see if Steven is ready to go on missions and he fails. He has really big shoes to fill. At least the raft survived!

My favorite quote is "Oh I've got a medical condition!"

So let's watch Steven Universe:

Laser Light Cannon

This episode introduces Steven's Dad Greg Universe. He is an ex-rock star turned car wash owner. He seems a bit aloof but ultimately love his son.

We get the next song in the show "Let me Drive my Van into your Heart" a classic SU song. Look at this dork I love him.

There is some kind of weird spaceship in the sky. A Redeye

"Oh no! it's going to infect us all!"

"That's pink eye Steven"

Steven and Greg meet up and go to the storage shed, which is a Dad museum of old interests and hobbies of Greg. We get the back story of how Greg and Rose (Steven's mom) met. She was the only only one to come to his show in Beach City. We also found out that Rose gave up her physical form to bring Steven into the world. That's a lot to take away from episode two, but aight

And town doesn't seem too concerned bout the weird alien ship thing. Apparently, attacks like this happen all the time?!

Ok a little concerned.

"Good job Steven you saved most of Beach City"

"Sorry about that!"

"What?"

The day is saved with a cute phrase,

"If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hotdogs." A phrase Greg says and Rose used as her password to activate the laser light cannon.

Aw she loved him ❤️

Overall, this episode gives a little more exposition about things, but we are only warming up.

One of my favorite parts about this show is the music. Dad museum, Let me Drive my van into your heart, the laser light cannon song, they all add so much to the episodes. Throughout the show, there are many nods to music in earlier episodes, many themes

Oh and the theme song! So good!

So let's watch Steven Universe

First off, I don't expect to be consistent with these. I've seen Steven Universe like a million times, and now it's time for a rewatch!

We first meet Steven at the Big Doughnut. An annoying adolescent boy with a gem belly button.

Soon, we meet the Crystal Gems! Steven sings the first song of the show "Cookie Cat," which is a fun nod to CG backstory. A fun nod is the red bracelet in the freezer (which appears in a future episode)

Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl are bad ass fighters/rebels/guardians to Steven me boy.

Steven eats many, many Cookie cats and kinda helps save the day. We see a gem monster get poofed and bubbled.

Overall, I think Gem Glow is a nice introduction to the show. It took me a few episodes to really get into SU.
