I just finished "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and immediately went on tmbr to look for some metas, as one does, but for some reason almost no one mentions my favorite part of Buffy/Spike dynamic. This quote:

Anyway, his wish to be hers, not the over way around, is, I think, the reason Spike is such a fan favorite. Sadly, it's rare to see characters written like this

are people seriously not understanding that the whole point of colin's arc this season is him trying to be something he's not??

like sure the brothel scenes are a little weird and jarring but like they're meant to be??? because he's not actually that into it, he's just trying to do what all the other men his age are doing so he can fit in??

the writers aren't trying to 'turn him into anthony or simon' or make him a rake because that's what we're used to - HE'S trying to turn HIMSELF into anthony or simon or basically any of the other guys who this comes naturally to; who enjoy sleeping with lots of different people somewhat emotionlessly and don't get lonely because of it (and no judgement to that it's just not him)

he literally kisses Pen ONCE and absolutely loses his mind over it because its obviously never felt like that for him before. that moment is his 'oh so that's what that's supposed to feel like' moment and that's how he knows he's in love with her its literally so good???

i understand people feel like its rushed but honestly to me it feels perfectly in character for him to discover the solution to his loneliness he's been searching for all this time and immediately dive into it headfirst. that moment right at the end of ep4 where he asks her to marry him is the most authentic colin i think we've seen all season. he's sweet and funny and playful and passionate and impulsive - he's finally stopped trying to be someone he's not and now that he knows who he is and what he wants he's all in.

Did you see how when he starts talking about jerking off she just looks so disappointed

rewatching the scene (over and over) because i can't get over how perfectly mapped onto their dynamic it is – roman's grasping at straws thought is that if he could get her alone, he could get them to sort of reset to a less fractured place, and in lieu of a real apology he's offering her a moment of renewed submission and vulnerability. even if it's couched in his typical sex-averse sarcasm/insincerity (he sounds despondent even as he says it because it's not a genuine desire, it's just going through the motions because it's the best he can do without doing what he really needs to do, which is apologize), it comes from a place of offering her a chance at exercising some power over him again, a subversion of what he did in the last episode which was exert an inordinate and untethered amount of power over her.

ultimately, though, she's so disappointed because it is a lazy, meaningless nothing offer and because they both know that it isn't what she needs from him anymore. she doesn't need power over him – he's too unstable and flighty and untrustworthy. what she needs, and what she needed all along, and what they had before he fucked it up, was respect (and assurance and commitment to Them and their shared vision). and even if it was in the heat of the moment last episode, him telling her she isn't good at her job was the biggest act of disrespect he could commit against her. there is no coming back from that, but even if there was, it would have to be a much grander gesture and falling back on the silly little jerk-off thing felt like one last reminder that they aren't those two people anymore.

Earlier, while outside my building, a group of three people (early 50s, 2 women, 1 man) were walking by. I didn’t hear any of their conversation except the man saying “She’s a Pan Am 3, but a United 6.” And I swear, that’s one of the most savage and hilarious insults I’ve ever heard in real life.

I started this season of Succession thinking that the kids were going to lose the company and be left with nothing (money, but nothing else). Now I think in just two short weeks after they lose their father, they are going to destroy the thing he built, and be left with a sagging conglomerate that they can’t get rid of.
