Redesigning Afterglow to be a 16bit-era video game mascot. Including an all new jazzercized dance tracksuit.
Going for big simple shapes here, easily readable expressions and clean posing. Something easily read at a small size.

Drew some robot masters that mean a lot to me.
Afterglow rig tests! I'm finally at the point where I can really make her move and dance. Is the rig finished? Hell no. But I'll never actually use it if I don't start now!
A few more recent Afterglow and Zoe pieces! Having a lot of fun developing these two. And her rig is so close to done!
When in doubt, work off the insane chaiacter posing from Sonic Adventure 2.
Anyway here's Goth Girl Adventure 2!
Been working on an important side character to Afterglow - her best friend and fellow trendy goth girl, Zoe. Or maybe her name is Jackie? Or Penny? I'm mulling it over lol.
Afterglow is shy and reserved so Zoe is going to be the more boisterous outgoing of them. Afterglow is short and chubby, so Zoe is tall and thin. Short white hair / long straight black hair. And so forth! But the details within those parameters are the fun part to figure out. I am demoing a few hairstyles and outfits here.
I tried something new here and did some storyboarding for one of their episodes while also figuring out the character design. This was great! Drawing her mid-hyjinx forces me into drawing her posed and with specific emotions instead of falling into the endless floating head problem.
What do you think of her so far?
8 dance poses inked with 8 different brushes for Afterglow!
A short animation I made entirely on a tablet! Very happy with the Callipeg-into-Procreate Dreams workflow. It solves some problems from either, a true gestalt of an animation app. A combiner, if you will.
Been busy with a 3D model and rig lately! I almost have her finished. Celebratory dimping!
Making a 3D model of Afterglow in Blender, with a special interest in using Grease Pencil to draw her face onto an otherwise blank head. If I combine that with some good toon shading I think it'll work well! Still more work to do but it's coming along.
Updates! Redid some parts of her but the rigging and weight painting is killing me. But gosh, she is cute. I am so excited to get this working so I can make her dance and speak.

Another finished "boss intro"!
And another one that I put more into than I originally thought I would 😂
So, Habeas Porpoise is a robot dolphin that sneaks around the world's oceans, using her Bubble Shackles skill to capture endangered sea animals. She brings them to her creator for display in his theme park where all the robot animals play a role.
Her circuitry is a bit more "military coded" so she responds to her superiors with little to no question, unlike the overall sass the others exhibit. She enjoys having Magnum Opossum as a field commander, her natural comfort in following orders from a C.O. matches up well with Opossum's love of bossing others around. They're close. How close? Stick around and find out maybe!
Nutcracker Robot! I basically designed them like a NetNavi from Mega Man Battle Network.
In the series I'm working on, I'll position this guy as an antagonistic inversion of the role Mega Man X played in the X series. Since I've designed a rambunctious group of animal themed robots, I needed a menacing threat that relentlessly hunts them down.
Why a Nutcracker theme? More on that later...
Pixel art portraits for some of my robots! I am having a giddy old time making these. I cant wait to add some frames so they really look the part. Maybe arrange them in a group of 8 oooh... ooohhhhhhhhhhhh~~
My intro animation for Magnum Opossum! She's the leader of my troupe of Mega Man X-inspired robot animals.
As their creator's greatest work, she graces the others with the presence of her superior construction and engineering. Anything you can do, she has already done and won an award for it. Jack of all trades, master of all those same trades. Her vainglorious ego may be the only way past her...
This one took longer than the others but... its what Magnum Opossum would want. As the robot simply superior than the rest of her peers, her animated intro must have a higher budget to match. I also kept her on 2s or 3s, animating on 4s would be an insult to her greatness.
About 5 years ago I thought "What if Mega Man X had to fight a reploid named Suck Macaque?" and I thought it was funny enough to design him. ... then I designed another 7+ for a full game cast, fell in love with them, and kept going. Turns out I love drawing robots.
But now, finally, I made the animation that's been in my head since that first laugh.
I really worked my butt off this weekend and got a lot of this set up! Basically all of the uncolored parts. This is a really complex design, but much like Magnum Opossum here I didn't want to accept ANY compromises in quality.
