A bold little male downy woodpecker let me snap photos to my heart's content on Sunday. Feels so darn good to be back behind the lens again, y'all-- I love my tripod, but free-wielding means I can respond immediately when opportunities like this one present themselves (and deploy tripod once I'm sure the photo-window is going to be longer than a few moments).

Sony a6000 and Sigma 150-600 Sports, as usual.

Apologies for the small hiatus-- I broke my right shoulder recently. Wouldn't recommend the experience, though it hasn't been as painful as I'd expected a broken bone to be. It's just a huge hassle to schlep a tripod around and do everything one-handed on the camera! I'm healing up pretty well and feeling a lot more confident with my workarounds, at least, so I'm looking forward to heading out tomorrow morning for spring migration monitoring at the lake and in town. At any rate, please enjoy a fullish moon and a Jupiter from tonight after the storms passed. Both images have been tweaked a little in post-processing using GIMP-- adjusted shadows and highlights for the moon to really bring out the maria and impact features, and tried using layers on Multiply and fiddling with shadows/highlights for the Jupiter image to see if I couldn't get the cloud bands to show up a little better (it worked!!). As usual, taken with my Sony a6000 and a Sigma 150-600 Sports.

the war is not over. The micro battle of getting jerry bovine and dogkiller supreme out is won, but the battle for Minnesota is not over, the war against ice is not over, and the war for the United States is not over. And what I'm saying isn't "don't celebrate", and it's not even "don't get complacent."

It's "do you feel like you're dreaming? Do you feel like you're waking up and being told everything you went through was just a bad dream? Because Cheetos the clown is suddenly saying these shocking pacifying gentle things and your officials are murmuring soothing noises? You're not. It wasn't. Trust nothing. Keep screaming the names of your dead until everyone listens. We are still alive here in Minnesota and we still have work to do."
