“Cold Harbor is at 100%”. Very happy to share my final poster for season 2 of Severance! Congrats to the entire cast and crew on an incredible finale and season. Can’t wait for season 3!
If anyone is interested in prints, visit jjlendl.com/lumon. Prints for this episode and the rest of my episode-inspired posters will be available for a ONE WEEK ONLY limited timed pre-order window ending next Saturday, March 29th. Thanks!
also the fact that drummond is killed on accident in the elevator due to the muscle spasms of the innie/outie switch-- the process is VIOLENT and is always violent and is always a death and for once it happened to lumon upper management rather than staff. the metaphor. i love it.
mark s leaving gemma screaming and pounding at that exit door was the best thing he could have done for her character. up until now gemma has been a non-player. she had a single episode of character development. but now? we have so much to be excited for. writers give the biggest, most interesting problems to the characters who are going to be on screen the most. hopefully gemma will be a main character next season because she has such an interesting task ahead of her!!!! now HER wife is locked in the torture chamber! she may be our main POV into the outie world if mark is still on the severed floor. she has so much emotional turmoil to work through. it’s going to be such an exciting, dynamic journey!! we have so much gemma to look forward to!!!!!
honestly i think the marching band sequence was one of the most horrifying sequences in the whole episode.
this whole season has been milchick silently contemplating his place at lumon, particularly in regards to his race, and yet he is still pushing through even after abuse from kier "himself". he is still performing.
and frankly i don't think it's being taken as seriously as it should be by the audience!!!!!!
i get that that is partially because it is absurd and out there that lumon would have a whole marching band and partially because tramell tillman brought so much oomf to it (i still cannot believe that this is one of his first acting gigs - he is such a good actor). and also, it's meant to evoke the first season's dance sequence (but i also don't think that's taken as seriously as it should be by the audience soooo--- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
but like — i felt a similar kind of horror watching the marching band sequence that i did watching get out and us. like. watch this black man in white gloves and a cane who has been consistently put down and othered for his race throughout this entire show, perform at the request of an automaton of the white man who very likely built his company on the backs of former slaves at the end of the civil war, whose company who still effectively employs slave labor and indentured servitude two hundred years in the future.
for milchick, this season began with lumon black face and ended with, effectively, a lumon minstrel show as someone else put it.
that is horrifying.
seth milchick and minstrelsy in severance / this is america by childish gambino

The way s1 innie Mark was so mystified and eager to find out about his own life because he wanted a life so bad, “I just hope I have things I care about,” the look on his face when Devon told him everything, even the smile on his face when he started the first camcorder video, just to realize it was all someone else’s life. Not his. It was never his life. His actual lived conscious life still doesn’t really belong to him because a manager can turn it off - so fuck it, why should his potentially last moment EVER be with/for anyone but Helly? He has something he cares about. Like really.
i respect innie mark for saving gemma at the very least and the romantic in me understands why he chose to stay in hell with helly but it ALSO needs to be understood by both him and every single person in this series that gemma’s feelings come first because no one has suffered more than her and if that’s a hard pill to swallow well then so be it
this is a severance fanart by yours truly
sooooooooooooo many things to scream about tonight but number one on the list is the difference in the ways dylan and mark's outies talked to their innies. from the get-go mark scout is nothing but patronizing to mark s. he created mark s as an escape from his grief, and now he wants to use mark s as a means to an end to save his wife and pick up his life where he abandoned it. he gets helly's name wrong and calls her 'the person you're seeing' because he doesn't recognize mark s's humanity. he sees mark s as an extension of himself, and he only loves gemma, so of course whatever mark s feels for helly can't be real or worth fighting for. and when mark s understandably doesn't see it his way, mark scout lashes out, calling mark s a child.
but then you have the letter dylan george wrote to dylan g. in three paragraphs dylan george talks to his innie like an adult, like they are peers. he's angry at dylan g, but at the same time, he understands why dylan g did what he did. he would have done the same if he were in dylan g's place. after years of being jealous of his outie, dylan g learns that his outie thinks he (dylan g) is the one to emulate, the self-assured badass. and where helena and mark scout made their innie's decisions for them ("i am a person. you are not.") dylan george breaks the cycle: he offers his opinion, but ultimately puts the decision back in dylan g's hands.
at the end of this season, dylan g is gifted agency. and after fulfilling his purpose, mark s steals his agency back.
also i'm such a gemma girlie. i don't mean in relation to mark or vs helly i don't care about any of that i'm a gemma girl forever. it's me and her. what if you thought you were eurydice until the last second until you turned around just in time to realize you were orpheus
SEVERANCE 2x09 - "The After Hours"
it's so sad that the innies think the outies have all this life and freedom that has been denied to them and meanwhile mark is a depressed alcoholic who lives only in dim lighting, helena cuts eggs in pieces so small the fork shouldn't be able to lift them to her mouth, dylan and gretchen's marriage is desintegrating, all irving has is black coffee and black paint and the black hole of vengeance that wants to swallow him whole... it's just so fucking sad they have the physical means to reach for and grasp all the happiness denied to the innies and they still can't. they're too damaged to. they've drawn a chalk circle of hell around themselves and they never step out of it. the innies' lust for life is the only thing that will help them break the cycle. we can't, we can't, i'm ready, we can't, i'm ready, i'm ready, i'm ready.
the ending shot implies harmony cobel left mark and devon to wait in the cold while she a) lit a fire big enough to look like a portal to hell, then b) made a very careful effort to stand in the dead center of the room relative to the doorframe. just to ensure that when mark came up and saw her she would look like she just walked out of dantes fucking inferno to judge his soul. and you cant even call it unrealistic because shes actually so fucking unhinged that its plausible. i love this show
