nagi seishiro doesn’t put effort into your relationship at all. he doesn’t take you on out on dates, nor does he give you the princess treatment. if anything, he’s the princess in this relationship.
but if you’re going to be honest… that might be exactly why you’re so in love with him. nagi seishiro is lazy and effortless, yes, and he carries that in everything he does, including loving.
so when you come over with food and try to tease him by asking, “what’s the magic word, baby?” he frowns and groans, and you expect him to whine out a “please,” but what escapes his lips are words sweeter than the melted mcflurry in the bag…
“i love you.”
how could you resist? and to make it sweeter, of course it’s his first time saying that. you bite your lip to stop yourself from smiling as you sit down beside him, finally opening the bag. “feed me?” he pleads, and you can’t tell if it ruins the moment completely or serves as the cherry on top.
and like that time when he hears you on the phone talking with a friend.
“being a model is living life on easy mode, ugh. i wish i was model pretty,” you say absentmindedly, looking at your nails.
nagi’s head is laid down on your lap, and as you finish speaking, he lifts his head to look at you, “you’re seishiro pretty, though.”
yeah, you did not catch a word your friend said after that.
or when you got jealous after seeing him with a girl from his high school, who happened to bump into him on his way home from training. as you look at the two of them talking, a boiling rage consumes you entirely.
you scold him, telling him that it was rude to keep you waiting and that the girl was absolutely way too giddy for this interaction to not have any romantic undertones.
“i’ll just never speak to her again, then,” he mumbles, face halfway buried in his pillow.
you sigh deeply, anger bubbling up even more until you turn to see his face completely blank, “wait, you’re serious?”
“yeah. i already blocked her on everything. can we stop fighting now? it’s such a hassle…”
BONUS: “i don’t know why you insist on fighting with me all the time. you know i’ll just do whatever you want, you don’t gotta argue… :x”
you’re minding your business at the courtyard when a tan man with ombre hair approaches you.
“hey there, beautiful. my name’s ryusei.”
“shut the fuck up, i’m not here to make friends,” you say, flipping through another page in your book.
“oh yeah, i love ‘em feisty!” his pupils practically form into hearts as he takes a seat next to you, making you sigh heavily. “what are you in for, baby? hold on, lemme guess…” he holds up a finger as you stare at him, his eyes scanning you. “it can’t be an eating disorder ‘cause that ass is fat!” he points over at you, hooting like a maniac in an attempt to hype himself up.
“can you leave me alone, pink tips?” you scowl.
“oh, i got a pink tip for you, alright,” he smirks, nodding to himself proudly before you smack him with a book.
“nurse!” you yell out.
“you smacked me and you’re snitching?!” he says, looking at you with sad puppy dog eyes as the nurses pull you two apart.
ima make this a series this is sooo fun i love writing for unhinged characters
if there’s one thing nagi seishiro loves, it’s you. if there are two things nagi seishiro loves, it’s you and lazy mornings.
you had slept over at his place after heavy rain started to pour mercilessly last night, leaving you stuck in your boyfriend’s aprtment. today, though? you were greeted good morning by the rays of sunshine illuminating your face, coming in through nagi’s window.
you shift in bed, making the sleeping figure beside you groan and rub his eyes before pulling you further into his arms.
“hey, stop moving…” he mutters, burying his face on your neck.
“nagi, i have to get up.”
“no,” he cages you in, arms working overtime to keep you wrapped up beside him, “it’s still early, you can get up later.”
“i have so much to do, baby. i have to get home,” you whine, gently caressing his arm in an attempt to butter him up.
“you are home.”
“nagi…” you scold, looking over at him.
nagi whines, reluctantly waking up to look up at you with puppy dog eyes. his brows are furrowed ever so slightly, and he’s pouting as his eyes flit from your eyes to your lips.
you don’t know if he’s doing it on purpose.
“…fine,” you huff, caving before giving him a kiss on the cheek.
nagi smiles triumphantly, taking your hand gently before pressing a kiss on your knuckles. then, he proceeds to place your hand on the crown of his head before nuzzling into your neck.
“such a baby,” you tease, massaging his head as you rake your nails through his scalp.
⊹ HOW AKAASHI GETS THE GIRL ! ⊹ ⠀۪ featuring akaashi keiji!
word count : 1.3k+ but the end is worth it, i promise
plot : akaashi keiji walks you home after a study session and some lunch!
prompt : a reader-interactive series wherein you choose who to pursue per chapter. each chapter will end with a choice, and your story will revolve depending on your route of choice.
you only unlock this chapter if you previously studied with akaashi!
you had taken up akaashi’s offer on walking you home after grabbing lunch. your dorm wasn’t exactly far, but the two of you had gone off campus and came back through a different gate than you were used to, making your walk a little longer than usual—not that you were complaining, because akaashi just introduced you to a top food spot 5 minutes from campus.
“i hope this doesn’t sound or you don’t take it the wrong way but i’m really curious about you, akaashi,” you say, looking at him.
you’re walking on the inside of the sidewalk as akaashi walks beside you, and neither of you notice the sky clouding up.
“why so?”
“it’s just… you tutor me for free, but you work at the bookstore and go to oka’s because you say it’s cheaper,” you explain, “i was just curious…”
akaashi chuckles, shaking his head lightly, “i’m not actually in trouble financially. my, uh,” he trails, scratching the back of his head, “my parents are just pretty strict on money. they keep saying they don’t want to spoil me just because i’m an only child, so they only give me an adequate amount of allowance.”
you nod in understanding.
“and i think it’s actually a good thing, you know? it kept me grounded. i was in private school my whole life so i met a lot of sheltered, stuck-up people.”
“like kuroo? he seems pretty stuck-up,” you say, half-joking.
akaashi chuckles again, “he’s not that bad once you get to know him.”
“how do you two know each other, anyway?”
he sighs, high school nostalgia coming back to haunt him. “we played volleyball together in high school,” he says, “or, uh, against each other, actually.”
“oh, i didn’t know you played... you don’t— actually, nevermind.”
akaashi lets out a laugh in response, looking down at you. “i don’t look athletic?” he asks with a smirk.
you look away, lips forming a thin line. you decide to quiet down, not wanting to possibly offend him or come across as rude.
meanwhile, akaashi bites down on his bottom lip to stop himself from smirking, then he rolls his sleeves up before flexing. his tan arms filling up every inch of his sleeves. if he were any thicker, the fabric would definitely rip.
“this good enough?”
the two of you were halfway to your dorm when the rain started to pour. not wanting to get any of your papers wet, you and akaashi both decide to stop by at a convenience store for the meantime.
“should we just buy an umbrella? i have extra change,” you say, placing your bag down on the store’s dine-in counters.
akaashi mimics your movements, placing his bag next to yours as he puts his hands on his hips, looking out the glass. “let’s just wait for a few minutes, maybe it’ll calm down,” he replies.
you nod, and you can’t help the way your eyes gravitate to his arms as he looks out.
“i’m gonna get a drink, you want anything?” he looks at you, and if he noticed your staring, he sure doesn’t show it.
“um, no thanks. i have my water bottle,” you smile.
akaashi nods before walking over to the refrigerated drinks aisle and disappearing from your view.
you sigh, looking out the window. with nothing else to do, you open your phone to see a message from kuroo you received two hours ago.
book thief: 👍
book thief: you’re never seeing this book again.
you must’ve missed it when you were eating. nonetheless, you reply, mentally rolling your eyes.
you: you’re so dramatic
he had texted you earlier saying that his only free time for this week was today, and if you wanted to read, you could come over in exchange for snacks.
you didn’t expect a reply from him so quickly, especially after you accidentally left him on delivered.
book thief: deal’s off, i just burnt the book down.
you: oh my gosh you are such a diva
book thief: 😊
you: why don’t YOU offer to come by MY place for the exchange??
book thief: what are you, a princess?
book thief: you’re the one who begged for this, i’m doing YOU a favor 🤨
you: i’ll come over some time next week after my dept exams, you glutton 😒
you switch over to your weather app, checking out the forecast for the rest of the day. you receive a notification from kuroo, a single “🥳” emoji popping up before you swipe it away and ignore him.
akaashi comes back just in time with his drink and two onigiris. he places one in front of you before taking a seat beside you.
“what’s this for?” you ask, confused.
he just shrugs, taking a bite of his. “‘s warm, you should eat it ‘fore it gets cold,” he says, his mouth preoccupied.
“thanks,” you smile before tilting your phone in his direction to show him the forecast. “i think we might be stuck in here a while.”
he looks before sighing and taking another bite, “wanna study some more in the meantime?”
you and akaashi had been had been studying for your respective classes for about an hour and a half now. the rain’s been gradually slowing down, and you decide the weather’s stable enough for you to propose heading back out again.
“akaashi?” you call over.
akaashi had moved a couple feet away from you, his space scattered with tons of different books. “hm?” he hums in response, head turning in your direction but eyes focused fully on his paper.
“the rain’s died down a little. should we go?”
“um…” he stalls, his pencil tapping furiously as he continued writing, “yeah, sure. let me just finish this up.”
you let out a polite, “okay,” before tidying up your things. you closed your laptop first, then gathered up your writing materials and placed them all neatly inside your pencil case. you then rounded up your books before arranging all your belongings inside your bag.
only when you’ve finished up do you hear akaashi speak again. “alright, i’m done,” he looks over at you and sees you ready to go, “oh.”
you giggle, walking over to him, “it’s okay, i’ll help.”
“…thanks,” he smiles politely before you both work together and clean up his things.
“you get really wrapped up when you’re studying, don’t you?” you say.
“huh? oh… really? what makes you say that?” akaashi opens his backpack to let you place a couple of books inside.
“you serious? you had, like, a blackhole of books out.”
akaashi laughs lightheartedly, “oh… i didn’t even realize.”
“you also did that when we first met.”
“really? wow, that’s embarrassing…” he trails off, scratching the back of his head, “i’ll be more mindful next time, i promise.”
“no, it’s okay. it’s kind of cute,” you shrug.
“cute?”
“yeah, i think it shows passion.”
“oh… thanks,” he says, a hint of redness decorating his cheeks, “should we go?”
“yup!”
the sky is dimmed as the two of you walk through the streets. the smell of rain envelopes you, and the air is light and breezy as it practically engulfs you whole.
the conversation died down a little while ago, but there’s no awkward tension between you and akaashi. as you get closer to your dorm building, a shooting star passes by.
“hey, look,” you stop momentarily, eyes above.
akaashi follows your gaze, and when he turns to look back at you again, he sees you with your eyes closed.
you open your eyes to see blue eyes staring softly at you. “oh, sorry,” you giggle nervously.
“nothing to be sorry for,” he reassures you, smiling politely, “you believe in shooting stars?”
“yeah,” you answer truthfully.
akaashi’s eyes flit down to his shoes before turning and looking back up at the sky. then, he closes his eyes, making a wish.
once he’s done, you playfully swat at his chest, “too late, it’s gone now.”
he chuckles, “it’s gone because it’s working on my wish,” he teases back.
“your wish? i wished first!” you sass, continuing down the road.
“exactly, yours got buried,” he chuckles, following you.
⊹ HOW OSAMU GETS THE GIRL ! ⊹ ⠀۪ featuring miya osamu!
word count : 1.9k+
plot : you and miya osamu clear things up after an awkward morning !
prompt : a reader-interactive series wherein you choose who to pursue per chapter. each chapter will end with a choice, and your story will revolve depending on your route of choice.
you only unlock this chapter if you previously went baking with osamu!
you’re already seated with your cookies on the passenger seat when you look out as osamu, leaning on his front door’s doorframe as he waits for your car to drive away.
you bite your cheek before sighing and shooting kuroo a text. “raincheck? something came up.” you don’t bother waiting for his response as you put your phone on do not disturb and grab your ecobag as you exit the car.
osamu’s eyebrows furrow as he sees you walking back. “ya forget somethin’?” he asks, calling from a few feet away.
“something like that,” you walk past him as you hear the door close. osamu walks behind you as you strive to the kitchen and place the bag down.
“what’d ya forget?”
you pause, sighing before turning to face him in the doorway. “do you remember when we were in high school? we used to cook—well, you used to cook a lot when i came over.”
osamu pushes himself off and walks over to you, now in your side as you face the counter. “when ya would hide out here whenever yer parents fought? i guess,” he answers, clearly still confused, “why?”
you gulp, looking out in the distance. you shrug, not really knowing what to say. it’s not like you had a script, and you didn’t really think this through—you just went with what your instincts told you. “i don’t know. i guess i just miss it.”
out of the corner of your eye, you see osamu in your peripheral vision open his mouth as if to speak, but alas, he says nothing.
you take it upon yourself to speak again, “i miss our movie marathons.” you look up osamu, “i miss hanging out with you, too. i’m sorry, ‘samu. i’ve just been busy.”
you bring a palm up to his arm, your thumb caressing him ever so lightly. your touch is soft against his skin, gently as you move. almost like you were lulling him to sleep.
osamu meets your eyes, sparkling underneath the kitchen’s fluorescent lights the way they did exactly when you were younger—full of life, full of love. and somehow, he knew.
i think we forgot how to be friends again.
“should i make some milk?”
“hey, turn up the ac.”
“dude, i found your old fox stuffed toy when i was looking for a blanket!”
you and osamu are under the covers on the couch, two glasses of milk and two boxes of cookies in front of you as your favorite childhood movie’s end credits play on the tv.
“i still don’t like how they ended up endgame. she could have done so much better,” you shake your head, biting into a cookie.
“osamu, sweetie?” a voice you could only describe as soft as honey greets you, making you and osamu look back.
“hey, ma,” he replies, standing up to greet her in the doorway. osamu gives his mom a peck on the cheek before taking her bags off her hands.
she looks at you and offers you a warm smile. “hi, baby. i didn’t know you were coming.”
“yeah, sorry, mama miya! i hope i’m not intruding,” you place your forearms on the back of the couch, resting your chin on top as you smile back at her.
mrs. miya has always been kind to you, always welcomed you in her home with open arms and treated you like her own, even going so far as to insist you stop calling her and her husband honorifics, and instead start referring to them the same way osamu and atsumu do. “i’ve always wanted a daughter!” she used to say.
“of course not, sweetie! but i wish you messaged me beforehand. we don’t have anything to offer you!” she walks over and ruffles your hair gently before seeing the cookies on the table. “oh, but i see osamu’s got it handled,” she says, turning to look at her son in a teasing manner.
“ha ha,” he laughs sarcastically, “where’s pa?”
“oh, he’s out with his buddies,” she says, waving a hand dismissively. “he’ll be back in time for dinner.” mrs. miya turns back to look at you, “what about you, baby? will you be eating with us? i, for one, would love to hear about your college experience so far.”
“okay, sure!”
“great! ‘samu, bring the groceries in, will you, baby?” osamu groans but reluctantly obeys. once he’s out of earshot, mrs. miya hurries over to your side and sits down, smiling brightly. “so, has he asked you out yet?”
“osamu? mama, you’re still on that?”
“oh, come on. look around you!” she says, motioning to the table. “cookies, warm milk, this cover? osamu would do anything for you, dear. you’ve got him wrapped around your finger!”
“mama, we’re just friends!” you insist, and you don’t know exactly why but you can’t help but smile. mrs. miya just has a welcoming air around her, you suppose.
“just friends…” she scoffs, turning away in mock offense. “fine, but when you get married, i’m including this conversation in my speech.”
you can’t help but giggle. you’ve always loved coming over at the miya’s for osamu, but you’d be lying if you said mrs. miya didn’t add onto it.
despite her constant nags and attempts to get you and osamu together, you know she means well. maybe she’s just looking for a way to officially make you part of the family. who knows?
“alright, i’m making miso soup and shrimp tempura for dinner. have you been eating well at college, baby?” she asks, touching your arm gently. “oh, i sure hope you’re taking care of yourself. but don’t go too easy on the sweets, okay? you could get health complications.”
“i’m okay, mama. osamu’s been helping me with culinary, actually. he visits me in my dorm sometimes.”
“that’s good. i’m glad someone’s taking care of you.” she smiles, and you can tell she’s genuine.
you’re beyond thankful to mrs. miya for raising osamu the way she did. every good she has, she passed down to him. that’s why you and osamu have stuck together for so long—he was just simply too good.
the same couldn’t be said for his brother, though, who always finds a way to get a word in, especially when it comes to you. “what’s this? found yerself a boyfriend yet, biggie?” atsumu enters the living room, having seemingly only heard the his mother’s last line.
“atsumu, have some manners!” mrs. miya scolds her son, scoffing. “that’s no way to talk to your future sister-in-law,” she smirks teasingly.
you roll your eyes, whining as you drag out the last syllable, “mamaaa!”
mrs. miya giggles, “i’m sorry, dear. the opportunity was right there.” she runs her palm affectionately across your thigh as she stands, “alright, i have to get some rest. atsumu? play nice.”
atsumu scoffs as she leaves, his eyes following her retreating figure before he hops over the couch’s back and sits down on her previous spot. “ya really got a boyfriend?”
you roll your eyes, picking up your phone, “what do you care?”
“course i care, i ain’t lettin’ ya beat me!” he says. there’s a pause before he continues, “ya and ‘samu?” he asks, genuine curiosity in his voice.
“no! she’s just teasing. you know how she gets,” you take your eyes off your phone for a second to shut down his suspicions.
“hm… yanno what they say about denial.”
“it’s a river in egypt?” your eyes are back to your phone by now, tone uncaring.
“‘sumu, stop teasin’ her,” osamu enters the room, shaking the back of his head.
atsumu sighs as he looks over at his twin, “here comes loverboy.”
“dumbass,” osamu knocks at atsumu’s nape, making the blonde twin cry out an ow!, “told ya to help me with groceries.”
“i was keepin’ biggie company!” he barks, defending himself.
“pot callin’ the kettle black. yer the biggest of ‘em all, ‘sumu!”
“i’m a growin’ boy!”
“ugh, you have no idea how much i missed your cooking, mama,” you say, taking a bite of mrs. miya’s shrimp tempura.
“oh, baby, you’re just the sweetest,” mrs. miya cooes at you, her elbows on the table as she dotes on all three of her kids together. “so, how are things at your college?”
“it’s… okay. i mean, i’m not like, struggling too bad or anything. and i already made a couple friends there.” you answer, biting into your food.
“i’m glad you’re adjusting well, then. but i wish you didn’t move so far. you’re a whole city away now.”
“i’m only 40 minutes away!”
“40 minutes is plenty o’ time, kid. yanno, i still don’t understand why yer parents didn’t just let ya keep yer old family’s old apartment along with yer dorm,” mr. miya speaks up, not even bothering to look up from his meal.
“don’t be insensitive, honey. maybe they had a reason.”
“‘s not like she liked it there, anyway, right, biggie?” atsumu chuckles, kicking your feet under the table.
“atsumu! i just said don’t be insensitive! apologize right this instant.”
“no, it’s okay,” you say, looking up. “i don’t mind. it’s the truth, anyway. i actually chose that campus so i could escape.” you chuckle in an attempt to add a hint of humor in what you said, not wanting to kill the mood.
“sweetie…”
osamu looks at you as you smile nervously, almost like an instinct. he knows you too well, has every fibre of your being memorized as if it were second nature. he knows especially how you sometimes smile as a defense mechanism.
“‘tsumu, tell us ‘bout yer latest game. i heard ya won by comeback?” he says, switching the topic.
“oh, yes! i almost forgot about your game, baby. how was it, ‘tsumu?”
“heh, it was fine, i guess. i mean, i did practically carry the team on my back but…”
atsumu’s voice trails away as he continues to brag about his team’s recent win. meanwhile, you look over at osamu and shoot him a genuine smile. thanks, you mouth, to which he nods with a returning smile before going back to his meal.
———
the rest of the dinner goes by smoothly, and before you know it, you’re saying your goodbyes. mrs. miya gives you a peck on the cheek as mr. miya ruffles your hair up a little. atsumu just gives you a dismissive wave before retreating upstairs to his room, and osamu offers to walk you out again.
“that was nice,” you say, hopping down the stairs of their porch as you walk over to your car.
“yeah. we missed havin’ ya around.”
“i missed you guys, too,” you coo, finally reaching your car. you don’t get in immediately, instead dragging out the scene for as long as you can, “especially you, big guy.”
osamu chuckles as he looks down on the pavement. he kicks his leg lightly, fidgeting with his hands are in his pockets, “ya already said that.”
your face drops as you glare at him, and osamu chuckles even more.
“i missed ya, too, sweets.”
your smile widens, and osamu’s grateful that it’s dark out, otherwise it’d be hard to explain the red hue adorning his cheeks and ears.
⊹ HOW KUROO GETS THE GIRL ! ⊹ ⠀۪ featuring kuroo tetsurou!
word count : 2.1k+
plot : you come over at kuroo tetsurou’s for a book/cookie exchange!
prompt : a reader-interactive series wherein you choose who to pursue per chapter. each chapter will end with a choice, and your story will revolve depending on your route of choice.
after a quick drop-by at the miya’s, you and your cookies make your way over to kuroo’s house. he’d already sent you his address earlier this morning, insisting that if you wanted to read the book, you’d better do it today when his schedule was open.
thankfully, his place wasn’t that far off from yours, only a couple turns away from the dorm you’d been renting on campus. as the light turns red, you’re left in silence to reflect on what happened earlier today. you had spent the morning with a certain someone, and right now you can’t help the energy surging through your body as a voice in the back of your head nags you—you couldn’t help but feel like your time with him was cut abruptly. stupid kuroo, you think, my day could’ve been a lot more productive if he hadn’t picked today, you grip the wheel.
you sigh, knowing there’s nothing you could do about it now. you brush all negative thoughts aside and straighten your back, breathing deeply as you close your eyes. the light turns green just as soon as you open them, and you continue driving with one goal in mind: head over to kuroo’s, drop the cookies in exchange for the book, go home, and nerd out.
“what do you mean i can’t bring it home?!”
your footsteps are heavy as you follow kuroo inside, who walks so inattentively that it only adds onto his dismissiveness.
“did you learn english from the wolves or something? you’ve been doing this since we first met. thought a nerd like yourself would’ve understood a sentence that simple,” you could practically hear his smirk in his voice, tone as condescending as ever.
you clutch the white ecobag in your hands, sucking in your teeth before taking a deep breath. you try your hardest to maintain a calm tone. after all, he is technically the one doing you a favor, and you are at his house. “kuroo, respectfully, that insult doesn’t even make sense because you also like that book. didn’t blondie even say you already had a different copy?” your tone acquired some sass at the end, but you brushed it aside. not like he can do anything about it. he’s done and said worse to you, anyway.
kuroo opens the door and scoffs amusedly as you stop talking. he turns, leaning a few inches into your direction at the doorframe with a hand on top, completely towering over you as you look up at him, “oh i’m sorry, would you prefer your highness?”
for a split-second, the two of you hold eye contact, yours boring holes into his hazel ones as your brows form a V shape.
kuroo scoffs, letting his arms flop down before turning and heading to the bed, “leave the cookies on the desk. the book’s on the shelf, third row, on the left.”
you gulp before reluctantly trudging into his bedroom, gently placing the bag down like he instructed. you look for the book and sure enough, there it is, glistening in all its glory.
“you haven’t even opened it…” you say, examining the cover, “why?” your eyes flit over to his figure, laid down on his bed with an arm over his shoulder and a phone on the other.
“been busy, i guess.”
“seriously? you can’t even be bothered to open it yet you still won’t let me take it home for a day or two?”
“that’s because i have no idea what kinda scam you’re running, missy,” he looks at you, eyeing you up and down before groaning and sitting up. “who knows if you’ll end up running away with it?”
“you..!” a groan escapes your lips before you sigh and sit down. “whatever. i’m opening it now, okay?”
he shrugs absentmindedly reaching over and taking one of the boxes out. the two of you open your respective items before you both begin inspecting them.
“you made these?” he asks.
you look over, eyes flitting to the side before going back to the book, not even bothering to turn your head, “something like that.”
“hm.”
you flip a page before fully looking over at him, a hand on the book as to not lose your page. “they’re not poisoned,” you chuckle.
kuroo takes a second, looking at you as if scanning your very being. then, he takes a bite. and then another. his brows furrow like he’s… angry, or taken aback, but then he nods once.
light breaths of air escape your lips as you giggle, “good?”
“not bad,” he shrugs, before popping the rest into his mouth in one piece, “might end up liking this set up after all.”
you shake your head, rolling your eyes with a smile before going back to your book.
you’re about 50 pages in when kuroo gets up and leaves the room. as you watch him disappear from your line of sight, you sit there in confusion. wasn’t he the one that said he didn’t trust me? i could very easily take his phone and bust out the window right now. better yet, look for his wallet.
you close the book, but not before placing a random bookmark you found on kuroo’s desk. his stationary is actually surprisingly neat, and there are a few sticky notes with chemistry facts decorating his desk. you skim through them: some mnemonics, some random facts, some… other stuff you don’t even try to understand.
you pull back and look around elsewhere for anything out of the ordinary, but kuroo seems to be a pretty clean guy. there’s really nothing of interest in his room, so you decide to just look through his books. you thought about looking through the dressers, but ultimately decided you didn’t want to do anything to upset him. despite him being extremely annoying, you could tell he’s not exactly a bad guy, especially since akaashi seems to be at least on decent terms with him.
you run your fingerd through the book spines, lifting your head to the side a little to be able to read the titles more precisely. clayden, greeves, warren… alastair reynolds… man, he doesn’t organize these books, does he? a particular book piques your interest, but as you’re about to reach out and grab it, kuroo comes back and furrows his brows at you.
“what are you doing?”
“oh… sorry, i didn’t– i was just, um… looking around…” under his gaze, you couldn’t help but feel small. you wouldn’t necessarily consider yourself a shy person, no, but something about the way his eyes pierces into yours, like a cat and its prey…
“hey, you’re the girl from the bookstore,” an aloof voice cuts through the tension as a blonde man appears behind kuroo. he leans against the doorframe, eyes scanning you as if to read. what is up with these people?
“um… yeah, hey. i recognize you, too,” you reply meekly.
“akaashi told me your name,” he says, pushing himself off from the doorframe and reaching out his hand, “i’m kenma.”
you reach out and shake his hand as kuroo eyes him up and down.
“i didn’t know you and akaashi were close,” he says.
“oh, no. it was just at the bookstore. i was waiting in line and he came back because he forgot something. we just made small talk, and stuff…” he replied, “he let me have his employee discount, though.”
kuroo shakes his head, clicking his tongue, “tsk! man, i should’ve done that.”
kenma shrugs and takes the seat near the desk—the one you previously used—and fishes out a switch from his hoodie’s pocket. he spins the chair, his back now facing you as he casually takes a cookie from the box kuroo had opened earlier. kuroo looks at you for a second before walking over to his bed, grabbing his phone, and laying down without a word.
oh, that’s cool. i didn’t want to sit, anyway, haha. yeah. i just wanted to stand here like an idiot. yeah, that’s what i wanted. haha.
as if he could read your thoughts, kuroo sends you a glance before sitting up and leaning against the bedframe. “kenma,” he says, scooting over, “give her your seat.”
“eh?” kenma whines, looking over at kuroo, “but i’ll get crumbs on the bed if i sit there.”
“just be mindful of the cookies, man.”
kenma turns and looks at you with a slight pout before reluctantly getting up and giving you his seat. he continues to play the switch, occasionally reaching out for a cookie while kuroo scrolls on his phone mindlessly.
so this is how they bond, huh. i guess it’s kinda cute. quality time with no pressures of a conversation.
you take the seat, muttering a quick “thank you”—to whom, you don’t particularly know—and going back to your book.
“hey, that reminds me…” kuroo’s head pops out from behind kenma’s figure, who was previously shielding the bedhead from your line of sight, “how’d you and akaashi meet, anyway? i mean, i know he said he helped you out, but…”
“oh… um, he was at the library and needed a seat. and he kind of saw me struggling so he offered help.”
there’s a pause, like he’s expecting for something more. when you don’t provide a follow up, kuroo shrug, “huh. that’s kind of lame.”
you scoff, “oh, sorry. let me just rewind and make our first meet more eventful for you, your highness.”
kuroo returns your scoff before reaching over for a cookie, “yeah, you do that.”
you shake your head and roll your eyes in unison, “why? how do you know him?”
kuroo’s still chewing when he answers, his eyes fixated on kenma’s switch beside him, “actually, akaashi and i met in a cult.”
“excuse me?”
“yeah, his parents are cult leaders. hasn’t he mentionsd that?” his head tilts as he looks at you, like he just asked you the easiest question known to man.
“…no?”
“yeah, i wouldn’t mention it either,” kuroo shrugs.
“you wouldn’t mention it because it’s not true,” kenma interjects calmly.
kuroo begins to cackle before finally bursting out in a full laugh. “you should’ve seen your face!” he says, pointing at you with one hand as he holds onto his stomach with the other. “you looked so confused!”
you have to bite your lip to stop yourself from laughing, but as you catch glimpse of kenma looking over at kuroo with a disdained face, you catch yourself giggling a little.
“that’s comedy to you?” you ask, raising an eyebrow at kuroo.
“you were giggling, too, don’t even.”
4 chapters in and a box of cookies after, you close the book and stretch in your seat, groaning. kuroo’s laid down upside down on his bed with his feet bunched up on the headrest, while kenma sits up with his back against it.
you look out the window. it’s getting pretty dark.
“hey, i think i’m going to head home.”
“yeah, sure. want a lift?” kuroo looks up from his phone and meets your eyes.
you smile, scoffing in amusement, “wow, i really am getting the princess treatment.”
kuroo returns your scoff, “nothing less for her highness,” he says, sitting up.
“thanks, but i brought my car. i can manage,” you say, gently closing the book as you make a mental note of what page you stopped at, then putting it back on the shelf. “bye, kenma.”
“i’ll walk you out,” kuroo jumps off his bed before you can even stop talking.
“bye bye,” kenma farewells, not bothering to look up from his game.
kuroo’s already walking ahead of you when you turn to the door. you catch up to him in no time.
“how was it?” he asks, breaking the silence.
“the book? it was good. i really liked the—oh wait, no. i don’t wanna spoil you,” you backtrack.
kuroo chuckles from his throat, looking back at you, “i meant your stay.”
“oh.” your eyes wander aimlessly, almost fidgeting with your gaze, “it was okay. it wasn’t bad. thanks for having me.”
“thanks for the cookies,” you’re at the doorstep now as kuroo speaks, opening it for you. “i’m pretty busy with my org and whatnot, so i don’t know when i’ll be able to squeeze you in next.”
“huh. figured you’d find a way for royalty, but okay.”
kuroo chuckles at that as he shakes his head, “i’ll keep you posted.”
“you really still don’t trust me enough to let me take it home?”
kuroo eyes you up and down before looking away at the distance, shrugging, “maybe i like spending time with you.”
you give him a sarcastic smile before rolling your eyes. “whatever. okay, i still have to cook dinner so i should go,” you sigh, looking at your car from the doorstep.
“thought princesses don’t cook?”
“this one does. she even bakes for peasants.”
kuroo chuckled wholeheartedly, “alright, i get it. good night then, princess.”
“good night, kuroo.”
you hop off his porch and make your way to your car, heading home to your place.

⊹ HOW OSAMU GETS THE GIRL ! ⊹ ⠀۪ featuring miya osamu!
word count : 1.7k+
plot : miya osamu helps you out with your culinary skills!
prompt : a reader-interactive series wherein you choose who to pursue per chapter. each chapter will end with a choice, and your story will revolve depending on your route of choice.
the birds outside chirp happily as you look out from the miya residence’s living room with a bag of chips in hand. you pop another piece into your mouth, watching the trees sway as loose leaves dance through the air.
“hey, were you waitin’ long?”
you turn around to see osamu, your best friend since childhood. his voice is deeper than usual, and his face has a certain glow to it. “nope,” you say, walking closer and setting down the bag on the kitchen countertop, “did you just wake up?”
osamu gives you a slight chuckle, reaching up the cupboards to gather supplies. his back muscles scretch as his shirt hugs his figure, and you don’t remember just when he got this big.
“i had a late night, okay?” his tone is lighthearted as he speaks, and the kitchen lighting almost seems to highlight his dimples as he gently places the ingredients before you.
you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear as you sigh. “is this the part where i ask and pretend to care for the reason why?” you tease.
osamu sighs and places both palms on the edge of the countertop, giving you a knowing smirk before shaking his head. “y’re always so mean to me, yanno?”
you giggle as osamu turns around and grabs multiple bowls, “sorry, sorry. it’s just… a little annoying seeing your twin’s face on my best friend.”
he stops in his tracks, brows furrowing in confusion before he turns to look at you. “his face? shouldn’t it be the other way around? he has my face!”
by this time, you’re full on laughing now. “you’re so easy to anger, ‘samu!”
he hums, face flat as he moves opens the packaging bags with precision. “hm. ‘s too early for this,” he says, feigning indifference.
you shrug with a smile before hopping over to where osamu’s mixing together some ingredients in a bowl—sugars, salt, and butter. with his right hand, he grabs the whisk before pausing, then looking at you. “ya wanna try?”
you look at him, suddenly noticing how close your bodies are. you clear your throat and take a step back before taking the whisk off his hands and getting to work.
“make sure there’re no lumps, ‘kay?” he says, and you nod in response.
a few minutes later, you’re folding together the flour and baking soda, as per osamu’s request, while he finishes up whisking an egg and some vanilla extract. he taps the whisk on the edge of the bowl a couple times before looking over to you.
“yer puttin’ too much pressure,” he says, much to your confusion.
“what does that even mean?”
osamu sighs, though you know there’s no malice behind it. “bakin’ is science,” he says, walking over to you. his figure wraps yours, hands placed carefully atop yours as he starts to gently guide you as you fold. “if ya put too much pressure, yer more prone to overmixing, which’ll lead to the gluten toughenin’ up, then ya end up with cakey cookies,” he says, his breath almost tickling the skin of your ears, “or maybe even a sore wrist. then you’ll get burned out ‘cause y’associate that pain with bakin’.”
you seem to be having a lot of revelations today, and you don't exactly know why. you and osamu have had multiple kitchen sessions before, and it’s not exactly your first time getting close physically either. so why does it all feel different now? why does the air today carry a certain hint of domesticity, from the way he greeted you as soon as he woke up, to the scene unfolding before you?
what’s different today?
osamu pulls away casually and starts cutting up some milk chocolate chunks for variety. once finished, he pops a piece into his mouth before offering you another, his eyes on you with his fingers mere inches short from your lips.
you take the bite and go back to your task, trying to bury any unnecessary thoughts of your best friend.
…keyword: trying. you think about your shared past, attempting to pinpoint exactly what it is that’s making you feel this way. the bittersweet taste of nostalgia pools in your throat, and as your eyes meet osamu’s, the world begins to fade away.
in this moment, it’s just you and osamu. no unnecessary noise, no annoying blonde twin to ruin the moment.
you’re just two kids under the same roof playing house again.
after popping the cookies in the oven, osamu takes a seat next to you on the couch, spreading his legs and leaning back with an arm resting on the back of the couch. he takes his phone out with his free hand and begins scrolling as you flip through the TV channels.
“so, that whole deal with that… kuroo guy…” he says, eyes never even lifting from his phone, “i’m not sure i trust him.”
you pause, eyes wandering in confusion before landing on him, “why?”
“‘s just… idunno. y’don’t even know him.”
“i guess. but, you know, a friend of mine knows him so he can’t possibly be that bad,” you shrug, bringing your knees up to your chin.
“really?” his brows furrow, eyes finally looking over at you, “who?”
you sigh, rolling your eyes dismissively before flipping through the channels again. “akaashi, an second year at my college. he’s offered to tutor me.”
“…huh.”
his tone suggests that his response was more than curiosity, his underlying interest evident in his voice. osamu’s travel to the side, looking at nothing in particular as his brows furrow, clearly wrapped up in his thoughts.
“hey,” you say, “what’s wrong?”
he looks at you for a couple seconds before shaking his head, “nothin’, don’t worry ‘bout it.”
you pout subtly, turning your entire body to face him. “‘samu.”
he avoids your gaze, pretending to be preoccupied with his phone, “‘s nothing, i told ya.”
“it’s something. come on, tell me.”
osamu looks at you as you whine, before looking away and bringing his previously resting hand to cover his nose and lips, then scratching his jawline.
“see, you’re doing that nervous tic you do!” you point out.
he chuckles nervously, “‘m not doin’ anything!”
“yes, you are! just tell me what the problem is.”
osamu scratches the back of his head rapidly, “y’ve just been makin’ lotta friends lately.”
you blink a couple times, unable to come up with a response.
osamu goes back to his phone quietly, attempting to put on a calm front. his voice is visibly smaller this time, tone softer, as if afraid saying the wrong thing could shatter you like porcelain, “‘m just lookin’ out for ya…” he mutters.
“osamu, are you jealous?”
osamu visibly tenses up, the muscles under his shirt stiffening as his veins pop out more. his grip on the phone tightens just a little, so subtle that you’d have missed it if it weren’t for all those years together—those years you’ve spent memorizing him.
ding!
you’re both pulled out of your thoughts and back to reality when the oven rings, signalizing the cookies were done. osamu sighs heavily before getting up, tossing his phone on the couch.
he doesn’t know if he should be thankful for the save or disappointed that he didn’t jump at the opportunity. you and osamu have never talked about feelings for one another before—you’ve always loved each other, that much was granted. but as time goes by, and as your world and his start to differentiate, he can’t help but feel whether or not his feelings for you have blossomed into something more.
osamu doesn’t know how many nights he’s spent tossing and turning in bed, unable to get you off his mind. he’s liked other girls before, sure, but his feelings for you are just… too complicated, too complex. too much.
his mind races as he retrieves the tray of cookies from the warm confines of the kitchen’s oven—the very same oven you almost blew up in an attempt to surprise him with a homemade cake on his 15th birthday.
he lets the cookies cool down while he gets a box to transfer them into once they’ve fully rested. osamu’s always loved cooking; from simple onigiris to more complicated meals such as seafood boils, cooking’s never failed him. what’s there not to love? it’s the most reliable thing in the world.
and he would never admit it, especially not here, on a random saturday in his kitchen, when you have plans to meet up with another man after spending the morning at his place, but osamu knows exactly where his love for cooking came from.
it came from you.
you, who loved nothing more than to eat. you, who always had a snack in hand, whether it be at your high school alma mater’s gym while you waited for him during his volleyball training, or at the youth camp you went to together because you “were scared to be seen as a loner,” so you dragged him into it and convinced his parents to let him come.
osamu loved cooking because you loved eating. and sometimes, on his loneliest nights, when you just wouldn’t leave his mind, he’d get up at midnight, turn the kitchen lights on, and cook. it’s never failed at distracting him.
“hey, so…” you trudge over to the countertop as you speak, your phone in hand as you position yourself across from him. you quickly swipe off the imessage app before pocketing your phone and looking up at him.
osamu looks up at you, his expression… unreadable? or stoic, at least. like nothing had happened earlier.
“kuroo just texted. he’s, um… he’s expecting me,” you say, looking down at your hands and fidgeting.
osamu nods once, “alright, i’ll pack these up for you.”
“…thanks.”
———
osamu quickly finishes wrapping up the cookies, and before you know it, he’s handing you a white ecobag with two boxes full of goods inside.
you get in your car shortly after, placing the bag on the passenger seat before putting your seatbelt on. osamu’s on the doorway, having offered to walk you out before. you look out at him, then back to your phone on top of your car’s armrest. you think for a second… and wonder if you should stay and talk with osamu or just head over to kuroo’s.

⊹ HOW AKAASHI GETS THE GIRL ! ⊹ ⠀۪ featuring akaashi keiji!
word count : 1.9k+
plot : akaashi keiji has recently offered you his tutoring services… for free!
prompt : a reader-interactive series wherein you choose who to pursue per chapter. each chapter will end with a choice, and your story will revolve depending on your route of choice.
2 hours and 49 minutes. that’s exactly how long it took for akaashi keiji to explain professor takahashi’s recent lesson to you.
he had insisted on you sending him takahashi’s files and notes prior to your study session, claiming that he needed to recall the topics in order to help you more efficiently. what you didn’t know was akaashi spent a good chunk of his friday night devising 3-page mock exam for you.
he’s sitting on your left yet again, just like your first encounter. “for this item, solving by graphing isn’t really a good idea,” his tone is gentle as he leans in. akaashi’s right thumb pressed against his bottom lip as his eyes scan your work, while his left points over to the spot you’d been writing on previously. he’s so close, you could practically guess how much vanilla was in his perfume.
akaashi’s eyes flit over to yours, catching you by surprise. your eyes widen, if only for a split second, before blinking and focusing your attention back on the paper. “right. um…”
“oh, uh... sorry,” he chuckles nervously before quickly pulling away and leaning into his chair. if you took the time to look, you’d have noticed a new hint of pink in his cheeks. when he speaks, his tone is much softer, and you don’t even know how he managed to do that. “also there are five corner points.”
“i know that, i was just…” you turn your head slightly to the opposite direction, feeling flustered, “mapping it for reference,” you mutter.
he chuckles again, seemingly amused, “alright, i trust you.”
“12:56. 1 hour, 7 minutes,” akaashi puts his phone down after checking the time. “not bad. but you’ll have to solve quicker, takahashi’s really big on being punctual.”
“oh, trust me, i know. one time, i submitted a paper through google classroom and it was a minute late. he deducted five points,” you say, annoyance coming back to haunt you like a man possessed. “five!” you repeat, holding up your hand.
akaashi smiles before sitting up straight. “last year, i was a minute late to class because i dropped my headphones while climbing up the stairs and i had to go down for it. he was already at the door when i reached the floor, and when i ran to catch up to him, he locked the door. in my face.”
you gasp, “he did not!”
“did too,” he shrugged. “i had to sit outside on my ass eavesdropping for like, a good 15 minutes of the class before he felt bad and unlocked it. then he gave the class a lecture about how punctuality is discipline.”
“he is so mean! i swear, we need to set him up with someone so he’s less grumpy,”
“like in clueless?”
“exactly like clueless!”
the two of you share a laugh before akaashi sighs and looks over at your finished paper. “alright, well, i have to check this.”
you nod, tidying up your supplies. “yeah… or we could grab lunch?”
akaashi’s already in item #2 on your mock exam when he looks up at you, “lunch?”
“well, we’ve been here for three hours with no snacks. i don’t know about you, but i’m starving,” you say, patting your stomach to emphasize.
you can practically see the gears turning behind his blue eyes as he contemplates.
“oh, lighten up, akaashi. it’s just lunch. i’m not asking you to go to war with me,” you tease, swatting his arm playfully.
he chuckles endearingly before shaking his head, “fine,” he says, cleaning up.
akaashi takes out a folder from his bag and places your paper along a pile of others, and you can’t help but notice how gracefully he moves. maybe it’s because of his slender hands, but there’s a certain elegance in the way akaashi carries himself. it’s in everything he does, engraved in every little action.
you look up at his eyes when he finishes, smiling. “ready to go?”
“mhm.”
the autumn breeze passes you by as you and akaashi walk side by side out of the library.
“so, what are you in the mood for, anyway?” he asks.
you look around the scenery, and though you’ve been here practically everyday since starting uni, it’s never failed to amaze you just how beautiful your campus is. “honestly, i’m not in the mood for anything in particular,” you say before turning to meet his gaze, “what about you?”
his eyes look away from yours just as soon as you look at him, before he sighs and shrugs. “i don’t really know. i was hoping you had something in mind when you invited me to eat with you.”
your brows furrow as you pout slightly, “well that’s no fair. you’ve been here longer, you definitely know some good spots.”
akaashi purses his lips, his hands in his pockets as he walks. “hm… i guess i do have a place in mind…”
“great, it’s decided!”
“…but i don’t know if i trust you well enough,” akaashi stops in his tracks.
you stop too, albeit a few steps ahead. you turn to face him, giving him a questioning look before he laughs softly. “i was kidding! jeez…” he says, closing the gap as he puts an arm around you and starts walking. “but you have to promise you won’t go telling everyone about it, okay?”
“whatever.”
akaashi takes you to a spot just a few minutes outside campus. it’s a small wooden stall connected to a household, but there’s a counter and some seats on the outside, accompanied by a red-and-white canopy roof. he takes a seat and sets his bag down on the table. before you’re even seated, an old man in an apron and a face mask smiles warmly at the both of you before greeting akaashi.
“my boy, all grown up. is she your girlfriend?” he asks, looking at you.
akaashi returns the smile before shaking his head politely, “no, sir. she’s just a friend.”
“ah, a friend,” the old man nods, eyes flickering between you and akaashi. “you know, that’s where my wife and i started off, too.”
“mr. oka, please,” akaashi chuckles, scratching the back of his head, “we’re just here to eat.”
oka shakes his head before swatting away at the air. “aish, kids these days. always so bashful, so shy,” he says, turning around and getting a laminated sheet of paper before handing it over to you. “back in my day, we simply asked a girl out, plain and simple,” he says, facing akaashi as you scan the menu. “the more time a woman spends being single, the more opportunities she gets. better lock down this beauty before she goes on to find the next best thing,” he winks at akaashi, whose face is currently buried deep in his palms with his glasses pushed up to his head, though you could see how red he is from the gaps between his fingers.
“gramps, you’re old…” akaashi mutters quietly, rubbing his temples as his face returns to its original color.
the old man laughs hysterically before placing both hands in his hips. “alright, alright. i’m sorry, kiddos. it’s been a while since i’ve seen two cute little kids like yourselves,” he says. “so. what will you be having?”
“i’ll just get a tonkotsu ramen,” akaashi answers, pulling out his wallet from his bag.
“extra chashu?”
“yes, sir.”
“and for the lady?”
you hand him back the menu, offering him a small smile. “i’ll have the same, thank you.”
———
shortly after, both your orders arrive. the bowl of ramen is steaming hot as oka places your respective meals on the counter. then, he puts two cups of iced water before retreating to his chair a few feet away, facing the television.
“wanna see a trick?” akaashi asks, snapping his wooden chopsticks in two.
you nod hesitantly as he picks up an ice cube from your cup and drops it onto your bowl. he sees your brows furrow.
“it’s to cool the soup down. it works because oka goes heavy on the seasoning, so it doesn’t get too watered down.”
“oh…”
he does the same thing, only, he adds two ice cubes instead of one in his bowl. “and, you know, more soup,” he says, stirring the bowl.
you mimic his movements before finally digging in. bodies of flavor all greet your taste buds at once, like getting hit by a truck. “oh, wow.”
akaashi looks over, then chuckles once he sees your face. “good?”
you nod eagerly, taking in another bite. “really good. oh, i am so gatekeeping this place,” you say, your focus entirely drawn to the soup before you. “i am not letting these prices go.”
he smiles fondly at you before taking in a bite of his own.
“hey, how’d you even find this place, anyway?” you ask, mouth halfway full as you look up at him.
akaashi doesn’t return your gaze, his eyes fixated on his meal as he shrugged, “i… well, it’s kind of lame.”
your eyebrows furrow, still looking up at him as you tease, “who says “lame” in this day and age?”
he smiles, then looks at you before shaking his head. caving in, he speaks, “i was a struggling freshman last year. there aren’t many spots in campus that are budget-friendly, and i didn’t really have time to cook three meals a day so… i had to look elsewhere, you know?”
your eyes travelling back to your bowl as you nod. “mhm, i get that. i don’t know why you’d think that’s lame, though,” you say, taking another bite, “i agree that the campus is… a little gentrified.”
akaashi looks at you for a moment—only with his eyes so you don’t notice—and hums in agreement, “yeah.”
“is that why you got, um, that job at the bookstore?” you ask, looking up at him once again.
“yeah, actually. well… i mean, that’s not the sole reason.“
“really? what else?”
his eyes look around, clearly finding a way to soften his words. “i… i’m kind of a nerd.”
“…a nerd?”
“yeah. well, i mean… i don’t know. i like literature as much as the next person, i guess. animanga’s pretty cool, too. and i like games,” he says. “employees have a 15% discount so you can see how far it goes as a struggling college student.”
you nod once again, “that’s why you have so many books.”
“not that much,” he says, side eyeing you as he teases.
“yes that much. you practically took up half the table on our first meet.”
“okay, i was preparing for a big exam so that doesn’t count.”
you and akaashi finish your meals around the same time. you’re just about to pull out your money from your wallet when akaashi stops you.
“hey, don’t bother,” he says, calling over oka to pay for the meals.
“oh, you don’t have to…” you trail off, feeling a little bit guilty. “you’ve done enough for me today,” you say softly, suddenly feeling meek.
“no, it’s okay. oka always gives me a discount anyway. says i’m the one keeping his lights on,” he chuckles, already getting up.
you follow him and clean up your belongings before the two of you walk back to your university’s gates, “okay… but i’m covering for us next time, alright?”
akaashi chuckles before he looks over at you, “sure. same time next week?” he says.
“deal,” you nod. “and i get to pick where we go.”
“works for me,” he shrugs. “should i walk you home? are you going home?”
just then, a text notification pops up on your phone.
“well…”

Hi!! I hope this doesn’t come off as me pressuring you and if it does sorry 😓 but I was just wondering whether you think you’ll write a part 2 for the suna x reader story you wrote recently? I thought it was really well written and listening to the song made the angst aspect even better ^_^
hi first of all u have no idea how much this means to me lol this ask specifically got me off my ass and made me write again after days of procrastination. i try not to answer asks as much to keep my feed clean bc i don’t have a masterlist so i don’t want to spam it up and bury my works but this one in particular i just had to answer. seeing multiple ppl ask for a part 2 and even going so far as to dm me means a lot bc my angst pieces (although i enjoy writing them more than i do fluff) doesn’t get nearly as much interactions as my other pieces. thats also lowkey why i write fluff more haha
anw anon thank u so much for this! if u guys have any specific song suggestions for part 3 i’d love to hear em
i mean, manhattan’s nice, but so are malibu nights
fluorescent lights blind you as you look up and get a bottle of soju from your local convenience store’s shelf. your basket has all the necessities: some chips, a pack of yakult, and a bottle of sprite.
rintarou—suna, rather, because you’re not close enough for first name basis anymore—is currently partying and drinking with his boys in a different city, surrounded with equally drunk girls who don’t know the first thing about him—don’t know how he likes his eggs, or how, when he arrives early to school, he likes to go to the gym and play a quick game with his friends. and of course he always brings you along, insisting that you watch from the sidelines. “it’s not like you got anything better to do,” he says, “plus, don’t you want to see how a pro plays? i’m the lebron of volleyball.”
you would know if you stay. you would know if you put up a fight
you only know his whereabouts from his friends’ posts. because of course, suna took you off his close friends. not that it’s a big deal. you don’t really care… you shouldn’t, anyway. because you and suna are nothing more than glorified strangers now.
and suna only knows of your newfound self-indulgent vices from your mutual friends. he asks about you sometimes, and he’s pretty good at making it sound like mere small talk when he does. a little, “how is she, anyway?” here and there, so painfully casual that you’d think he was asking about the weather. the conversations always move a little too fast for his liking though, because your friends never really get into detail about it. not that he cares.
your toes turn blue in winter, i’m getting red
you don’t know it, partly because you try to avoid all things suna-related, but lately he’s been getting cold feet more and more often.
his last three flings didn’t work out. he says the first one was because she’s “too much of a doormat, just goes along with anything,” but then the last one didn’t work out because “that one’s too bossy. she’s stricter than my mom.” and the one in between that? well… he just says the two of them didn’t vibe together.
rum does the trick for all the things left unsaid
one night, during one of their many drunken escapades, one of his friends finally find the courage to ask him what they’ve all been thinking: “do ya think maybe yer just… holding on for somethin’ else?”
suna scoffs, taking another shot. “fuck are you talking about?”
“like, i dunno, maybe yer waitin’ for someone.” his friend shrugs, taking a fry from the table.
suna eyes him suspiciously, his brows furrowed as his gaze scan the blonde. “…no.” his tone is just a little too serious, just a little more defensive.
“either that or you’re gay, man,” another one interjects.
i’m missing our drunken 2 AM strolls in k-town. now you’re chasing fake highs in the upper west side
and suna doesn’t show it, but that particular exchange has been in his mind for longer than he likes. he’s had quite a lot of shots tonight, so much so that he wouldn’t be surprised if he blacked out.
but right now, the only logical part working in his brain speaks to him as he gulps and thinks how much he’d rather be in your arms. how alcohol tasted better with you—sweet, almost. not the bitter, burning taste he gets when he gulps down a shot with his friends. how it used to make him feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside, and how it just makes him feel cold and empty now. how the club’s atmosphere feels suffocating, and how the thought of any other woman disgusts him.
“…call her.”
and fucking on brooklyns in brooklyn… your chelseas in chelsea
alas, suna is just a man. so he downs another shot before shutting down any logical thinking. he gets up and joins the crowd of women dancing. his vision is hazy, their faces are blurred, and the concept of consequences doesn’t really exist to him right now.
hope that eases the pain, so you remember to miss me
a/n: this is fonna have a part 3 cus i cant end it here but im outta ideas rn lol

you bite your lip as you reread the same paragraph for the nth time today. you roll your eyes, mentally cursing out your professor before sighing deeply and burying your face in your hands. your departmental exams were just a few days away, and you had a lot of catching up to do.
“excuse me, is this seat taken?” a man with black hair and glasses stood beside you, his own laptop in hand. he looks rather familiar, but you brush it aside. there’s no time for that right now.
“no, go ahead,” you shake your head mindlessly as he takes a seat from across the table. your campus library is great, filled to the brim with books... but it did tend to get crowded sometimes.
“thank you,” he smiles.
you take a deep breath, staring back into your laptop. you start to feel agitated, fidgeting in your seat until...
“..are you okay?” the man asks, looking up at you with his hands still on his keyboard. the words themselves do little to console you, but his tone is soft and gentle as he speaks. not to mention the fact that he’s cute...
you gulp before shifting slightly in your seat. you nod.
“just... having a little trouble reviewing,” you chuckle nervously.
“i’ve been there,” he says, returning your chuckle. he nods to you, “who’s your prof?”
“professor takahashi,” you pout unconsciously, looking away.
“oh? are you a first year?” he asks, brows furrowing in curiously. you nod before sighing. the man offers you a kind smile as he chuckles once again, “yeah, i’ve definitely been there. i can help you review, if you’d like? i got a pretty decent grade with him last year.”
before you can think about it, you’re jumping at the opportunity. wide eyed, sparkly eyes look to his for salvation, and the man ever so slightly blushes at the way your gaze meets his, so subtly that you almost fail to notice. “oh, would you? i have no idea what any of this means. please, i’d definitely owe you my life! i would so so so owe you my life!” you plead, hands coming together in a praying manner.
“alright, alright,” he lets out a light laugh, standing up to adjust his seat closer so he could lean in to your laptop.
“i’m akaashi keiji, by the way. 2nd year.”
you walk around the bookstore with clear purpose as clairo whispers sweet nothings in your ear. after a good couple minutes of navigating the shop and looking around for a little, you finally get to the science fiction section and find the novel you've been looking for. last copy!, you think, lucky me. as you reach out to grab it, your brain short circuits as someone violently snatches it from the shelf, just a few millimeters away from your grasp. the music in your ear fades, and is quickly replaced by the sound of a record player stopping.
“this is the one i was talking about, kenma! this edition is insane... i mean, look at the cover!” you slowly shift your gaze and come face to face with an absolute wall of a man. his back is facing you, and it's so broad that it complete shields your face from the sunlight peeking through the bookstore’s glass display.
the man rotates the book, examining each detail and looking at it through different angles as if it would change anything about the cover.
“excuse me, that’s mine.” you tap his bicep gently, catching his attention. he turns, then looks you up and down before scoffing.
“yours? it was on the shelf.”
“yeah. i mean... i was supposed to get it.” you reason. or try to, anyway.
“hm, supposed to,” he brings a hand up to his chin, mocking as he poses like he’s thinking. “maybe it’s just my english, but that means it’s up for grabs, no?”
smug bastard.
you furrow your brows, taken aback at his boldness. you huff a little before speaking sarcastically. “i’m sorry. i’ve only been looking for that copy everywhere. i went here solely for that specific print,” you say, motioning to the book in his hands. two can play at that game.
a blonde guy approaches the two of you before looking over at the book. “hey, don’t you already have that book?” his brows furrow. thank God for blondie, you think, get his ass for me! “just give it to the girl,” he says, looking at you with an unreadable expression.
“no, this copy is different! c’mon, kenma, you get it. you love collecting stuff too, don’t you?” the taller guy refuses.
“kuroo? kenma?” your eyes light up in recognition as a third man approaches your little group—akaashi keiji. his brows furrow as he looks at you. “oh, hey there, freshie,” he nods to you, “i didn’t know you knew these guys.”
“you know this girl, akaashi?” the guy you assume is kuroo speaks, pointing to you with his thumb.
“yeah, i met her last week. helped her study a little bit, why?” akaashi replies, “how do you two know her?”
“they don’t,” you answer, sighing before rolling your eyes. you put your hands back in your pocket. “captain claws here…” you say, glaring daggers at kuroo before continuing, “took my book.”
“for the last time, it was on the shelf.”
the blonde guy, kenma, looks over to akaashi. “don’t you have more stocks? maybe there are others in the back.”
kuroo lights up, “yeah, akaashi. you work here. can you check?”
“i wish, man. i restocked this section myself earlier, sold out pretty fast. there aren’t any more copies in the back.” he looks over to you, and if you looked deep enough, you could see him look a little bit apologetic, but his eyes shift to kuroo before deciding he didn’t want to be involved in this conflict. “i gotta go, my shift’s over and i was just leaving. i hope you guys figure this out, man.” akaashi leaves shortly after.
kenma sighs before looking over at the two of you and shrugging. “i’m gonna go pay for this,” he says, gesturing to the game merchandise in his hands before he starts heading over to the cashier.
kuroo looks you over and turns to follow kenma before you call out to him. “wait!” you say, sucking in your breath. “can i... at least, you know, borrow it sometimes? i can’t find it anywhere online and that copy has some exclusive scenes,” you say, negotiating with him. ego = officially humbled.
he scoffs, “what’s in it for me?”
“anyway, that’s why i need your help.”
you’re swinging your legs on miya osamu’s kitchen counters as you recall last week’s bookstore incident with kuroo tetsurou.
“weekly pastries? for a book? why not just offer to pay half of it?” osamu asks, opening the large pot and pouring in a mixture of various seasonings to the boiling water.
“um, duh, because i’m going to be paying for groceries anyway? okay, think about it,” you step down, walking closer until you’re across the counter, facing osamu’s back as you explain. “you and i need culinary practice...”
“speak for yerself.”
“...and we need a taste tester. one that’s actually going to provide good feedback instead of inhaling the food immediately on sight.”
as if on cue, osamu’s twin brother walks in just as soon as you finish talking. “hey, i heard that, remy ratatouille!” atsumu. of course. speak of the devil and he shall appear.
you sigh and roll your eyes before turning around to see him in the doorway, “shouldn’t you be off delivering food to people’s houses, uber eats?”
“shouldn’t ya be making food, cookie monster? oh wait...”
“i messed up cookies one time!”
“one time too much!”
“ugh, osamu! tell your brother to get out of here!” you yell, turning back to osamu as you huff, hands on your hips.
“this is my house too, dummy!” atsumu fires back.
meanwhile, osamu continues to de-shell the remaining shellfish before speaking, his voice calm. “‘tsumu, can ya go and deliver that?” he looks up as he nods towards the counter, where a hefty tray of aluminum tin sits. “i’ve already sent ya the address. check yer messages.”
you smile, chuckling with pride as you turn to atsumu, who only glares at you. “how much is the shippin’ for this one?” atsumu asks.
“i’ll just give ya a third of the price,” osamu replies before adding potatoes and corn to the pot. “and i read a lot of people vouching for the buyer. ‘parently, she tips a lot.”
atsumu sighs before searching the cupboards for an ecobag, then taking off with osamu’s worldstreet famous facebook marketplace seafood boil.
you take a second to make sure atsumu’s gone before speaking. “so, back to my explanation,” you say proudly, eager to get back on topic and bring osamu aboard with your plan. “i have to pay for my groceries anyway, so i’m basically paying nothing for the book. plus, you know, it’ll give us a fresh perspective on our pastries!”
osamu sighs, caving in. “yeah, whatever. it’s not i have a say on where your food ends up, anyway,” he always did have a soft spot for you.

almost is never enough ft. suna rintarou / part two
it’s 2:53 AM and your head is spinning from all the alcohol in your system. you never thought you’d say this but maybe chugging down absolut vodka wasn’t a good idea.
now, you’re at God knows where with God knows who, puking your guts out at a random club’s very public restroom. some girls stare—concern or mockery, who knows? you certainly couldn’t care less—some shake their heads, and some simply ignore you.
“isn’t there anyone who you can call, sweetheart?” asks the girl holding up your hair. you don’t know her. couldn’t pick her out in a room full of girls if you tried. still, she does feel Godsent right about now.
you take a breath and gulp before shaking your head gently. pulling back, you wipe your lips with your arm before sitting up straight.
“my life is falling apart. why do you think i’m here?” you answer with a scoff.
there was approximately 4 seconds before you started puking again.
the girl sighs and fishes your phone out of your purse with her left hand, her right still holding up your hair.
“what’s your password?” she asks, to which you glare at her for. she simply rolls her eyes before unlocking it with your face ID and calling the first person on your speed dial. you attempt to take your phone back, having seen her pull up suna rintarou’s contact on your phone, but unfortunately, your control over your limbs quickly become limited as you start throwing up again at the thought of him.
you wish you could say something to her. ask her to drop the call, or better yet, to just block his number altogether. but the cold air of the bathroom club envelopes you in a strangely unfamiliar yet not exactly unwelcome manner, and the toilet starts to feel like the knees of the man you loved so much. there’s too much going on, between whatever potion is brewing up in your stomach and the voices of the girls in the bathroom, you breathe heavily before spilling more of your guts out.
the next moments are nothing but a blurry haze of memories as rintarou helps you stumble into his car, nodding thanks to the mysterious girl as he closes the door of his passenger seat.
you take a few minutes to sober up—as sober as you can after all those drinks, anyway—and break the cruel silence by sniffing. you turn your head, pretending to be looking out the road, arms crossed as you try to avoid his gaze.
but rintarou knows you all too well. well enough to recognize that pattern of yours where you try to shrink yourself physically. he sometimes wonders if you’re aware of your habit, or if it’s a subconscious thing caused by discomfort.
he purses his lips together, eyes flickering from the road to you, then back again. he gulps before clearing his throat.
“it’s been a while, you know…” he says, holding his breath.
you sigh before nodding, heart too heavy to even spare him a glance. “…yeah,” your voice is meek as it comes, pain evident in your tone.
rintarou would be lying if he said his heart didn’t break a little at your dry response. he focuses on the road, knuckles gripping the wheel ever so slightly. there’s a pause before he speaks hesitantly, his tone gentle and soft, like he’s afraid speaking too loud will break you. “we haven’t caught up in a while,” he says. “i missed you.”
your lower lip trembles, though he can’t see it. “i’ve been… busy,” you reason.
“yeah… me too… i guess.”
the silence is deafening, and rintarou decides not to push it further. out of the corner of your eye, you see his right hand mess around the dashboard. music fills the air as ariana grande starts singing.
i’d like to say we gave it a try, and i’d like to blame it all on life…
you don’t know if it was intentional, but regardless, anger boils up inside you. he breaks your heart and still finds the audacity to play this song?! you scoff, shaking your head.
maybe we just weren’t right, but that’s a lie.
shut the fuck up, ariana, you think to yourself as rintarou makes a turn. you take a deep breath for the nth time tonight to calm yourself down. God give me patience because if You give me strength, i don’t know what i’ll do.
almost, almost is never enough. so close to being in love.
you’ve loved rintarou for as long as you can remember. your friendship with him was irreplaceable, and whether or not your feelings for him were entirely romantic or your judgment was simply just clouded by nostalgia, you could say with full confidence that you loved him. one way or another, you loved suna rintarou.
which is why it hurt so bad when he turned you down after your confession a week ago.
“i… i’m sort of… seeing someone,” he says, avoiding your gaze as he sighs. you two are behind the gym near the edge of the campus field as a band of students play their hearts out during your college fair’s battle of the bands. “don’t get me wrong, you’re great and all, but…” his voice trails, unable to find the words to speak.
“no, it’s okay,” you chuckle awkwardly, shaking your head. you look around, not knowing what to do.
“i hope this doesn’t jeopardize our friendship. i really, um…” he trails again before collecting himself. “if it were, uh… under different circumstances…” he swings his foot back and forth as he rests both hands on his back pockets. “i actually liked you a few years back, so…”
if i would have known that you wanted me the way i wanted you…
how, after all these years, could he not pick you? why couldn’t he have found a reason to pursue you? or to stay contented? or wait for you, or even hint—
your thoughts are cut off quickly as rintarou stops in front of your house. he kills the engine and gulps, heart beating erratically as he works up the courage mentally. he opens his mouth to speak, but when he looks up at you, you’re already unbuckling your seatbelt and leaving the car in a state of apprehension.
then maybe we wouldn’t be two worlds apart, but right here in each other’s arms.
and now you’re at home, on your knees as you desperately try not to cry while taking off your shoes. and rintarou’s in his car, unable to start the engine back up knowing how much he’d hurt you. not that he ever meant to, of course. some things just… don’t work out.
couldn’t even look at me the entire ride home, he thinks, banging his head against the wheel.
