Remus didn’t see Sirius at first. There were a pair of couches at the back of the room, and Glenn was sitting on one of them, snogging with a girl with shoulder length black hair whose face he couldn’t see.

Remus blushed, opened his mouth to apologize and leave—

Glenn pulled away, and the girl’s head turned slightly, asking a question he couldn’t hear.

That wasn’t a girl.

That was Sirius.

That was Sirius snogging with Glenn Toffee.

“Merlin’s nipple,” Sirius said. “Did your ink bottle open up in your bag and spill all over your diary or something?”

Remus looked up from the note he was scrawling into the last inch of space on March 21 to see Sirius staring at him from across the common room table. “What are you talking about? ... This is our reading, homework, and exams between now and Easter.”

Sirius got a puzzled look in his eye. “No… That… That can’t be everything we have to do?”

“You’re right,” Remus said, turning the diary back around and pulling out a different color of ink. “I haven’t gotten to Astronomy or Herbology yet.”

All he could think about was what Mina Dawlish had said to him. It had made him realize that everything he’d been doing for the last four months was stupid at best, and cruel at worst.

He needed to fix things. Make amends. And most importantly… never date anyone at Hogwarts again."
