Awkward creator part 2
Chat im alive!
Thank you to @beehas-adhd for helping me out with this chapter and @astral-phantom for listening to me ramble about Genshin constantly!
You can find chapter 1 here and the post that started this whole journey here ! Enjoy!
After that, you couldn’t sleep. I mean, how could you? You have no idea how to even react in this situation. It’s not like there’s a guidebook on how to handle being stalked by characters from a video game.
After triple checking all locks, closing every curtain and bringing the cooking knives up to your bedroom, you shut the door and tried to think of a plan.
Do you go into town and get the knights of Favonius involved? What if they realized that you are from another world? Would you just be playing into their hands?
What if it was Fatui? Mondstadt is in a tricky diplomatic spot with them, so you could get everyone (including yourself) into big trouble if you did anything suspicious. They might even kill you if you somehow foil their plans or learn more than you should.
Should you run away? Quit your job and sell your house, and try and make a new life in another town?
But wouldn't whoever's watching you be more doubtful of your “normal” status?
Before you knew it, it was morning. You contemplated calling in sick for work, but you decided you needed a distraction of some kind. If you act normal, maybe whoever's watching you will forget that you even saw them, and might give you more time to figure out a proper plan that doesn’t have a high likelihood of you getting killed. Besides, you need as much money (well, mora) as you can get if you're going to pull anything off.
After setting up the shop and trying to put on a mask of feigned neutrality and normalcy, you were ready to open the shop for the day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So far, so good. Everyone that had bought from your shop had been an NPC, and were regulars to your store, meaning you hadn’t worried about any new spies or guards being deployed to watch you and possibly arrest you (or worse) in the middle of the day.
Unfortunately, your calm and relaxed mood was ruined as soon as you saw the white cloak and short blond hair of the Head Alchemist Albedo walking steadily toward your shop.
Taking a deep breath in, you attempted to put on your best customer service voice and relax the tension in your shoulders so you didn’t completely look like a deer in headlights.
“Hello! What can I get you-?”
“Have we met before?”
Uh oh
“I don’t think so..? I mean, i do have a lot of customers that come in, so it’s possible I could have forgotten! But most of them are locals and regulars, and you seem fairly easy to remember given your outfit and hair. I don't get many chief alchemists buying food in Springville. Hahahaha."
Good one. Totally normal. Not suspicious at all.
“Must be my mistake then. My apologies. May I please get the…”
You go through the movements of packing up his order on almost autopilot, far too focused on not messing up and saying something you shouldn’t.
“Are you attending the celebration in the main city this weekend? I don’t believe I've seen you at very many meetings of the church recently, if any at all."
“What celebration?”
He tilts his head slightly, observing you carefully.
“We celebrate the creator and all the blessings they have given us using the help of their acolytes. By using the traveler, they decide on those they deem worthy of their gaze, and make them stronger, faster, healthier, and use them to travel across the world, carrying out their will. Are you not from here? Every child of Mondstat counts down the days till the festival.”
“Oh, no, I'm not from here. I'm from…
Quick! Think of somewhere Albedo doesn’t know a lot about!
“Inazuma! A really, really small village on a small island. Probably never heard of it! We don’t normally have festivals where I'm from.”
You said, shifting your weight on your feet and fiddling with the fabric of your outfit.
“Interesting. I was under the impression that festivals and church meetings were customary across Teyvat. Then in what ways do you worship the holy one? Surely you have not revoked your beliefs in them.”
“Oh! Uhhhhhh… we believe that everyones…relationship to the creator is special to them! Most people pray at home or with their families. But it varies! Some people write songs, others draw, but unless people are open about it, I was raised to believe it was rude to ask about personal worship of the…holy one..?
“I did not mean to intrude on your personal beliefs. Please take no offense, it was a mere curiosity. If I might make the offer, I believe you could enjoy going to the festival, if only once. You can still pray or do whatever you wish at home after the celebration, but it's a good excuse to learn more about Mondstadts culture, especially if you just moved here.”
“I just might, however, i'm not sure if i'm free that day, with work and all! ya know?”
“It is a crime to force people to work on the day of the festival. If your boss has given you no other option but to work, or is refusing to give you your day's pay in advance, I can get in contact with my fellow knights to have him dealt with.”
“Oh nonononono! That's not needed! He probably just assumed that I knew I was free that day, and just didn't bother to tell me.
He hums, then grabs the bag of produce he bought earlier, and turns away to leave.
“I apologize for taking up so much of your time, and asking you questions that have made you uncomfortable. I was unaware that people where you are from see worship as something sacred and secretive. It’s a common talking point here in Mondstadt. Should you decide to come to the festival, please do come and find me and my little sister. She’d be delighted to meet you.”
You relax slightly, glad he's almost gone.
“Its no problem, really! I’ll see you soon..? Maybe?”
He gives you a nod, then moves to walk away. In a moment of courage (or perhaps stupidity) you blurt out:
“Say hi to Klee for me!”
He stops all movement, and slowly turns to look back at you.
“I'm sorry, I don't remember telling you my sister's name.”
Shit.
