Happy Pride Month to all free queer people and to our brave queer refugees across East African camps. You are seen. You are valued. You are loved.

The queer community stands forever. No matter the distance, no matter the struggles, we are one family. 🏳️‍🌈

But as we celebrate Pride, we must also speak the truth of our reality.

Many queer refugees among us are facing deep hardship. We are not working and we are struggling to afford even basic needs like rent. Hunger is real some days we survive only on porridge and water when no support comes through.

Access to medication has become extremely difficult, especially after the cuts in USAID support to African camps. At the same time, there are growing health fears with diseases like Ebola, HIV and cholera affecting parts of Africa. Living in these conditions without proper care is frightening.

I am Hamza from Gaza, a husband and father of four children. Before the war, I worked and provided for my family, and we lived a simple but stable life. Since the war began, everything has changed. We were displaced many times, and our home was eventually completely destroyed, leaving us without shelter or stability.

During this period, I was seriously injured in my hand while trying to obtain food for my children, which left me unable to work and in need of surgery I cannot afford. My young daughter Amira was also injured and urgently needs medical treatment. We have lost relatives, our home, and all our belongings, and we are now living in a tent under very harsh conditions. My youngest daughter, Aya, was born during the war and needs basic supplies and care.

I created this campaign to seek support for my family — to help cover urgent medical treatment, food, and essential needs for my children. Any support, no matter how small, can make a real difference and give my family hope for a safer, more dignified life. 🤍

At the same time, illness is spreading quickly among us malaria, typhoid, and cholera are affecting so many in our community. Our shelters are falling apart and cannot properly protect us. When it rains, we are exposed. When the sun is too strong, we have no safe place to rest. On top of this, we are now two months behind on rent, and we are at risk of losing even the little shelter we have left.

Holding Hope in Inhuman Times Here in The Refugee Camp,A Call for Solidarity 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

I’m writing this with honesty, not perfection, and with hope that still refuses to die.

Right now, life is painfully heavy. We are facing harsh and inhuman conditions that no one should have to endure. Access to basic needs like food, clean water, medications, beverages, and other essentials is limited, and each day feels like a test of survival rather than living.

Despite all this, we are still standing. We are still reaching out not because it’s easy, but because community and solidarity are sometimes the only things that keep us going.

Some of our colleagues have been given the chance to flee to a third country in search of safety. While this is a step toward hope, it comes with its own struggles. They need decent clothes, shoes, bags, and basic necessities to start over. These things cost money, and we are unable to work due to discrimination and exclusion. If we could do this on our own, we would but right now, we can’t.

So we are asking, humbly and sincerely:If you can donate, any amount helps.

Right now, families in Sudan and the neighboring refugee camps are facing unimaginable hardship—lives shattered by war, displacement, and hunger. In places like Nyarugusu and Gorom refugee camps, people are surviving in overcrowded shelters, with little access to clean water, food, or medical care. We’re reaching out not for charity, but for solidarity across borders. Our struggle is one for justice, dignity, and collective survival for those running from violence, not just “refugees” as a distant category, but as neighbors, parents, and children fighting for their lives.

🌱 Why Your Contribution Matters

Direct, Transparent Aid: Every pound or dollar you give goes straight to urgent essentials—food, clean water, basic shelter, hygiene kits, and medicines—without corporate middlemen or bloated “administrative” overhead. This is aid that skips the bureaucracy and reaches people in displacement as fast as possible.

Restore Dignity & Autonomy: Many displaced families in camps are treated like cases in reports, not as people with choices, skills, and stories. When you support them, you help restore dignity and autonomy—the right to decide how to use resources, feed their children, and rebuild their lives on their own terms.

Empowerment, Not Handouts: This is not about pity. It’s about building a common solidarity economy—a network of care where support flows from people who have a bit to those who have almost nothing. Every £40 or £60 can help buy food for a displaced family for several days, or pay for basic medical supplies and hygiene items for women and children in the camps.

Every £100–£200 can contribute to shelter repairs, safe water, or emergency medical care in overcrowded camps like Nyarugusu and Gorom.

2. Share and Amplify Silence is part of the violence.

My heart is heavy as I write this… 💔

My son had a surgery some time ago, and we were hoping it would help him recover. Sadly, the operation failed, and now he urgently needs a second surgery 🙏

The treatment is very expensive, and I simply cannot afford it. I am alone, and my husband is a prisoner, leaving me with no support but God and kind people like you.

Every day, I feel fear and helplessness watching him suffer… I just want to see him healthy and smiling again 😔

Hello there. It's really along story but I will be just brief. I am aqueer refugee and representative of 27 queers here in south sudan at gorom refugee camp. We where forcedto flee persecution from our countries.

However life is very hard due to the high level of discrimination, isolations and torture. If now three days while we are starving but only surviving on water amd porridge for the lesbians mothers. We are having some colleagueswho are very sick but due that we are having out standing depts at the hospital they refused to treat them and told us to first pay for the bills first.

I am humbly pleading for your help if you can spare 250$ to us and we curb the scarcities. Our gofund campaign is in bio but its one month amd two weeks without getting any single support.

Right now, life is painfully heavy. We are facing harsh and inhuman conditions that no one should have to endure. Access to basic needs like food, clean water, medications, beverages, and other essentials is limited, and each day feels like a test of survival rather than living.

Despite all this, we are still standing. We are still reaching out not because it’s easy, but because community and solidarity are sometimes the only things that keep us going.

Some of our colleagues have been given the chance to flee to a third country in search of safety. While this is a step toward hope, it comes with its own struggles. They need decent clothes, shoes, bags, and basic necessities to start over. These things cost money, and we are unable to work due to discrimination and exclusion. If we could do this on our own, we would but right now, we can’t.

🚨 URGENT CRY FOR HELP FROM QUEER REFUGEES IN SOUTH SUDAN 🚨

We, queer refugees living in Juba and Gorom Refugee Camp, are living in constant fear, pain, and danger. Our lives are hanging by a thread.

A man has started reporting us to the public on every media, exposing our identities as LGBTQ+ refugees and our existence in their country. Now, everywhere we go, we are looked at with hatred. We are being hunted, insulted, and threatened. We have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide anymore.

For years, we have been trying to live quietly, hiding who we are just to survive. We’ve faced humiliation, discrimination, and rejection but now, our fear has become real. We are no longer safe.

Every night we go to sleep not knowing if we will wake up alive. Some of us have already been attacked. We are terrified that at any moment, someone will come for us because of who we are because we are queer, because we exist.

To the world outside we are begging for your help. Please, don’t ignore our cries. We need your voices, your advocacy, your action. Please write to UNHCR, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Rainbow Railroad, OutRight International, and every human rights organisation that can help us. We need immediate evacuation from this horrible place before it’s too late.

We are human beings. We are not criminals. We are not a sin.We deserve to live, to love, to be free from fear.

Every day is a struggle for survival here in the Gorom refugee settlement. Many of us live in shelters made of sticks, plastic sheets, and thatch homes that can barely protect us from the rain, sun, or wind. Life here is extremely hard, with very limited access to food, clean water, and medicine.

Hello everyone. I'm called Peter. aqueer refugee in south sudan at gorom refugee settlement and arepresentative for my fellows. Right now we are really passing through hard times about starvation and luck for medication in this out break of malaria in the camp. Many of my colleagues are now sick but due to the reason that we don't have any donation on our gofund and the last donation was 23 days ago, I'm not able to pay the medication fir my friends and yet also at the same time there is starvation. I'm humbly pleading for your support towards our dire situations so that we can pass through this hard times which will be so much appreciated. We are refugees living in the Gorom Settlement Camp, South Sudan — and we are calling out for help. Life here has become unbearable. We face extreme hardship every day:

No proper access to clean water or food

No medical supplies or treatment for the sick

LGBTQ+ people living in fear, unsafe and unprotected

Children and elders suffering the most under this neglect

Constant hunger, trauma, and hopelessness surround us

We did not choose this life. We were forced to flee from danger — only to face more suffering in a place meant to protect us.

✨️The Lost LGBTQI+ in Refugee Camps: Voices Forced to Flee

In the ever-deepening global refugee crisis, millions have been forced to abandon their homes due to war, persecution, or natural disasters. Among these displaced people, there exists a community often overlooked and rendered invisible—LGBTQI+ refugees. These individuals are not only fleeing the horrors of war or oppressive regimes, but also escaping violence rooted in their gender identity or sexual orientation. For many, the journey to safety is fraught with compounded trauma, and even upon reaching refugee camps—supposed havens—they continue to face threats, discrimination, and erasure.

For LGBTQI+ individuals, home was never truly safe. In countries where same-sex relationships are criminalized or where gender non-conformity is met with violence, coming out can be a death sentence. Many are subjected to corrective rape, forced marriages, or brutal beatings by family members or community authorities. Their only chance for survival becomes fleeing—but even that path is shadowed with danger. Often, LGBTQI+ refugees must conceal their identities on the journey to avoid abuse from fellow migrants or human traffickers who view them as easy targets.

Upon arrival at refugee camps, the systemic neglect of LGBTQI+ individuals becomes more apparent. These camps, designed with a generalized humanitarian model, often fail to accommodate diverse identities. Many LGBTQI+ refugees find themselves placed in the same shelters as people from the same communities that persecuted them. This lack of specialized protection exposes them to harassment, sexual violence, and continued marginalization. Even access to basic services—healthcare, mental health support, or legal aid—is limited or entirely unavailable for queer individuals due to stigma or ignorance among camp staff.

For those living with HIV, the situation is even more urgent and heartbreaking. In many camps, LGBTQI+ refugees with HIV have no access to antiretroviral (ARV) ò. Their health deteriorates as they suffer in silence, facing not just medical neglect, but social stigma that pushes them further into isolation. Basic needs like food, clean water, and safe shelter are luxuries they often go without. Some survive on one meal a day, others drink unsafe water that brings disease. They are already among the most vulnerable—and now they are being forgotten.

This crisis is not just a humanitarian issue; it is a moral one. It calls on our shared humanity to act. These are people who have endured the worst the world has to offer, yet they still hold onto hope—hope for safety, dignity, and a chance to live authentically without fear. But they cannot do it alone.

We must do better. And we must do it now.
