The fall of an empire has never been peaceful.
Every revolution, rebellion, and insurrection has been within a fascist regime. The election of Donald Trump is a natural consequence of the empire losing control. Our oppressors see queer, disabled, black, and other marginalized movements gaining traction and know that it threatens their power, so they are doing everything they can do to squash it.
Do not let this discourage you.
Now, more than ever, let us organize:
Join your local organizations– if you're close to a university, leftist student orgs will frequently host events or protests that are open to the public. If you live in an area with no or inactive organizations, consider forming your own! Even if it's just you and a few friends at first, we all have to start somewhere.
Read banned books and books by marginalized authors– book bans are happening for a reason. These books hold ideas and strategies that are dangerous to fascism.
Look to history– we did not get where we are overnight. It has been a centuries-long struggle. The Black Panthers, Redneck Revolt, the Lesbian Avengers, etc. Look at what they did right, what they did wrong, and what can be applied to our methods today.
Talk to your loved ones– yes, even that one. Allies are everywhere, even if you can't see them. As impossible as it seems, even the most conservative boomer has the potential for education and growth. Call out your friends when they say something racist, transphobic, ableist, etc.
Support one another– through mutual aid, shopping small businesses, sharing a GFM, giving to food banks, sharing community resources, and more.
Practice self-sustainability– canning, dehydrating, and otherwise preserving food. Grow a garden, raise your own animals, collect your own honey. Build independence from an unstable capitalist system in whatever way possible, even if it's a single tomato plant.
Center more marginalized voices in conversations– especially those of Palestinians, black women, and trans women.
Take care of yourself– you cannot organize or join a revolution if you're so unwell that you can't even get out of bed. Set limits for yourself and know when it's time to take a step back.
