But then…all of her friends had come from such different timelines. Who knew what these versions were capable of…? They certainly didn’t seem to have any idea what she had done.
But this just confirmed what she’d already known. It was only a matter of time until one of those broadcasts was about her. And she wasn’t even sure if she’d remember whether it was true.
But then...all of her friends had come from such different timelines. Who knew what these versions were capable of...? They certainly didn’t seem to have any idea what she had done.
Forcing a smile seemed to run strong in their friend group, it’s a nice thought knowing they all had something in common but its sad knowing what it is. Ian tries to put a more gentle expression.
“I guess it is a pretty weird thing and quite unexpected. I’m half expecting something to happen out of nowhere like that time in the ball back in our session…”
“yeah…a part of me wishes we could’ve had more things like this…minus the whole murdering and stuff of course!”
He pauses, his sight losing itself in the couples dancing in the party and his expression fading.
“I wish I could’ve done something like that for her…”
Elodie’s expression sombered a bit. She placed a tentative hand on Ian’s shoulder, a bit unsure how to help him.
“You and Kathy....love each other a lot, don’t you?” she asked slowly, trying out the words one at a time. “I can tell, you know. I don’t know what happened to you two in your timeline, but...”
She sighed, doing her best to gather her thoughts.
“I don’t pretend to understand all this stuff about multiple timelines and other versions of our friends. I know we aren’t the ones you knew from your timeline, but...in here, all we have is...each other. So... I think you should go and ask Kathy to dance. You can’t change the past, but...I think that would make her really happy.”
Well his plan to eat his depression away with food wasn’t going all that well. Actually it was doing quite the opposite. Ian had come to the festival hoping to distract himself from his own thoughts, but he ended up dwelling in them even more.
Watching everyone dancing together, the music, the scenery. Soon enough he had left the food stands and went for a walk. He began to reflect on everything that had happened up until now and how he wished he could at least be spending this moments of peace with his friends.
But they were all gone weren’t they? Sure he had seen them here but they weren’t his friends. They all had their own version of him, different memories and experiences. Kathy had been the one to help him realize this fact. He had been so happy to see her of all people, so happy he forgot where he was and how it was that he got here.
It’s better like this…I’m sure they wouldn’t want to see me after I failed them…
He is about to head home before he catches Ellie looking disconnected, almost like he was. She didn’t look sad but more…numb. No prominent emotion which made Ian try to approach her. Old habits die hard I guess.
As he got close to her, he forces himself to show a smile to try and cheer up his friend.
“Ah, I was just checking on you Ellie! The party is nice isn’t it?”
Ellie smiled back, although she strained a little bit with the effort.
“It is! It’s nice, but... I guess it seems a little inappropriate, huh?”
She wondered how Ian was coping after the trial. She’d managed her way through by compartmentalizing and arguing in the trial itself, but Ian had been awfully quiet. It was always hard to tell how he was feeling when he put on a brave face like that. Always protecting the hearts of others.
It was...kind. But inconvenient.
“I guess it’s...good to relax and be happy while we can, though...”
Even though she’d dressed for the occasion, Elodie couldn’t help but feel like she stuck out against the bright festivities. Her dress was designed in the same medieval-ish fashion as about half the people here, but against her sort of brooding mood, she felt more like a witch on her way to be burned than anything else.
Which was fitting enough, she supposed.
Still, she felt a little guilty for not being a little more social. This was a party, after all, and she knew she should at least make an effort. As gut-wrenching as approaching a stranger was for her, she pulled aside the least threatening person she could find.
“Um. Hey. You....weren’t dancing with anyone, were you?”
It felt...a little wrong, to be celebrating so soon after the trial. After, in part, her argument had sent a man to his death. A guilty man, granted, even a man who might have deserved the punishment he was given, but... there was something so final about it.
Not that she didn’t have experience with murder, of course.
Of course, all this introspection had left her pretty numb to her surroundings, so it was a bit of a surprise when she glanced up and found herself face to face with an old friend.
“Ah....Ian, I didn’t see you there. Did....did you want to dance, or something?”
Ellie’s head is still spinning from her head injury the day before, but like hell is that going to stop her celebrating. She doesn’t have any candles to light, but she does turn on the lights in the apartment while she says the prayer. And, of course, the important bit: presents! Those she can’t gather in her own house, she seeks out to deliver the gifts (despite, likely, Kathy’s protests that she should be resting).
But the holidays wait for nobody, and she’ll get into the spirit whether anyone likes it or not.
Elodie has given Ian Ortega (@brxkenanima ) the Pikachu Plush.
A plush doll of Pikachu, the Mouse pokemon. It's pokedex entry tag reads: "Whenever Pikachu comes across something new, it blasts it with a jolt of electricity. If you come across a blackened berry, it's evidence that this Pokémon mistook the intensity of its charge." Wow! The tag reads:
Ian-
You’re too good a person for someone like me to deserve your friendship, but I have the feeling I couldn’t get rid of you if I tried. I hope you like this, I know you like video games.
Happy Holidays,
Ellie
Elodie has given Katherine Baker (@temporalgcddess ) the Fashionable Glasses.
A fashionable accessory that appears to be a pair of glasses, but does not actually correct its wearer's vision. The tag reads:
Kathy- Thanks for taking care of me the other day. I know you’re worried about me, but I promise I’m fine. You worry too much! Take some time off one of these days, old lady!
Anyway, I hope you like these. I just had the feeling they would look good on you. Someone as wise as you should look mature, too!
Love,
Ellie
Elodie has given Samael (@raginxtempestas ) the Macaroon Plush.
One of many adorable Sanrio plush dolls you can collect. In the shape of a small white golden retriever wearing a pink bow, her "adoption" card says she's proud of her "big eyes and super cute poodle-like curls" and "loves Pompompurin woof all her heart." Best of all, it's soft to the touch and big enough to sleep with at night. The tag reads:
Samael- This is for dropping me on my head, old man. No, but seriously....thanks for taking care of me after the fight. I don’t blame you for what happens in that ring, so you didn’t have to patch me up after. I can tell you act big and scary, but you must have a heart under all that grump if you’d do that for a stranger. So here’s a big softie for you, big softie.
From one monster to another,
Elodie
Elodie has given Valentine Damis (@hxpelessfate) the Friendship Ring.
Rings to stand as proof of your friendship with another. Elodie has one, and she’s given Val the other. The tag reads:
Valentine- I got these in the gatcha a little while ago. I know they’re a little cutsier than you like, but I hope you’ll cherish yours anyway. I have the other one, so you’ll always know that you’re my best friend.
Motives to get people to kill each other, the snakes never cease to amaze him. Can’t say he wasn’t enjoying seeing all those foolish humans fumble around with their lack of sight or other missing senses…or so it was until he saw Rosaline struggle with the loss of touch. It wasn’t weird to say he had indeed consider the possibility of murder to return the sense to his loved one, but it is too soon for that isn’t it?
But the humans here sure like to test his patience bumping into him like this
“And who the FUCK do you think you are, human? Don’t you have eyes or does your kind lack that alongside a brain??”
“I’m blind,” Elodie said flatly.
She’d done her best to be kind, the fault WAS hers after all, but she had never had, and would never have, any patience for people who were rude for no reason.
And besides. She couldn’t see this guy, but he gave off a deeply unpleasant vibe. This didn’t seem like someone who was particularly concerned with hiding his inner monster. So she didn’t see why she should, either.
“So maybe it’s you who should be paying more attention where you’re walking. Unless crashing into blind girls is a hobby of yours.”
Having his friend like this after all that had happened, after that fight they had…Without realizing it he finds himself trying to comfort her, petting the back of her head slightly.
Still, something felt off, almost as if both of them were talking of completely different events. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that perhaps this wasn’t the Ellie she knew…
But maybe he can still be useful to this Ellie and help her.
“It’s okay, it’s not your fault Ellie. I forgive you becuase you are my friend. We’ll both make mistakes and perhaps will hurt one another but never will I be able to hate you.”
“You are my friend Ellie, you matter so much to me”
Ellie found herself clinging even tighter to her old friend, no doubt getting some of her dark tears on his clothing, although she could hardly see to check, Her head was buried in his shoulder as he stroked her hair, and she desperately tried to control her breathing. The last thing she needed right now was to hyperventilate.
“You forgive too easily,” she murmured. “You...you’re not him, are you. You don’t even know what you’re forgiving.”
She wasn’t completely oblivious. She knew how to see what was right in front of her nose, if that was a turn of phrase that could be applied here. This was...some other Ian from another timeline, if Kathy’s words were any indication.
Elodie was quickly discovering that Ira ward was a bad place to live when one had found themself suddenly blind. She was coping as best she could, mainly by feeling along walls and such, but she really needed to get a cane or something.
Namely, because walking around with her hand on the wall didn’t prevent her from slamming directly into other people, sending both people involved sprawling to the ground.
“Fuck,” she muttered softly, picking herself up off the floor. “Sorry....are you okay?”
Her comfort was everything, quelling the darkest thoughts in their mind with a small smile and comforting words. Ellie had that power over them, for whatever reason. Especially now with how much more.. innocent she seemed to be. Ellie was the older one, always trying to take care of them, but now that she was the younger one…
Adopt her, probably. No choice but to get a parenting book, she’s a baby.
It was almost embarrassing, showing up as the mess that they were. As much as Val loved the chaotic mess of hair they possessed, they were far too aware of Ellie’s desire to chop it all off before. It was nice seeing that the same feeling somewhat carried over.
With a nod, their face a bit red, they lean down for her.
“ …I stopped taking care of it around the ship ride at some point, it got too long and hard to manage. With all the chaos that happened, I didn’t really think it mattered much. ”
Val had gotten so tall in the time since Elodie had died. It still caught her a little off guard that she had to reach up to touch their hair. She tied their long mess into a low ponytail, looping the ribbon into a small bow in the back. Without even thinking about it, she leaned forward to press her forehead against theirs.
“You have so much to catch me up on,” she murmured. “I’ve missed so much of your life by dying so soon.”
She sighed. She wished Val didn’t have to see her like this. She was well aware that she wasn’t really the Elodie they needed to see, and the thing she’d become would probably be revolting to them if they ever knew. But still. Valentine needed them.
“At least let me brush it sometime? I know you. You’ll feel better if it’s taken care of.”
