im gonna be honest im getting a little tired of the "its not about antimaskers or antivaxxers or people partying or whatever, its about the government and your business forcing you to go into work" genre of posts

like on a structural level yeah i 100% agree,u look at the other countries that dealt with this shit and the important thing is not individual level like masks and vaccines its being paid to stay home

but also like. i work retail. ive been working retail, and im gonna have to keep working if i want to make rent. i am face to face with customers all day and every single day we still get people coming in without masks and throwing fucking fits when we tell them to mask up. im trying not to catch the fucking plague and die for minimum wage and the people around me cant even do the bare minimum of wearing masks so like, begging your forgiveness, im gonna fucking complain about antimaskers and antivaxxers and shit

im well aware of the systemic problems leading to the prolonging of covid. im also not in a position where i can ignore or stay calm about the individual problems

hiya this might be a hot take but do not base your positions or morality on guilt. it can, will, and does make you defensive. base your opinions on compassion, reduce the harm you create, and do not spend forever agonizing about things you cannot change. worry about what you can do, care about others, and listen to new ideas and different people. if a person is criticizing something, try to figure out if its an action or an institution. if it’s an action, reflect on whether you participate in it. if its an institution that you are a part of, figure out how you can help to dismantle it. your guilt is unhelpful and worsens both your life and the help you give others, I say this from experience.
