I feel it has been quite some time since I have taken the time to sit and ‘talk’ to you all. This will get personal.
I wanted to take some time and tell you about something that I have been thinking about and working on for quite some time now.
As some of you may now, aside from my work here on this blog and my full time job, I also have just recently graduated from college with my degree focusing on the art of printmaking. For those that do not know, my work is based heavily on the visuals associated with film noir from the 1940s through the 1950s. I choose to work with this imagery mainly due to the beauty that comes out of a black and white image that relies on the use of very minimal light and shadows; in other words, I really enjoy high contrast imagery. This being said, I have been focusing more recently on my love for these types of images, as well as watching more and more black and white films from all over the world and all over the history of cinema. Let me tell you, there are some truly beautiful works of art out there. This being said, to further my love even more, I have decided to create a blog consisting of only black and white films and their images.
Now, over the course of this blogs existence, I have created and killed several blogs to work as a companion to this blog, the main blog. They never kicked off as I had hoped and quite honestly, I wasn’t really happy with them. However, this is something I am very in touch with, being it is a personal love of mine and I hold it quite close.
Now, that is the update part. How about the favor part? Well, that is where you come in; all 20,000 of you! You have all shared your love of film and the art of cinema with me, and me with you for nearly two and a half years now. Now, I would love to show you a more specific love of film, a more specific love of the art of cinema; that of the black and white film. Thus, ‘Mono // Chrome’ has been created. All I ask is that you join me in this new chapter of expressing a love of film. As you will see, the blog is very much in it’s infancy, as I am still working on the aesthetic of it all. However, I can assure you that by this coming week, you will begin to see posts. The set up will differ from what is present here, but the point will be made.
Now this does not effect the main blog here at all, as I will continually post on here too. I mainly want to express two sides of my love to you, the fans.
As always, I cannot thank you all enough for you immense support and continued support over these past several years. I am ever grateful for what you have done for this blog and for myself. Really, thank you.
Here is to new beginnings!
