☄ || “well , YEAH-! of course we will,” varian refused to note the faint strains of hesitation in his father’s voice , nor his own DOUBTS that still rang clear in the back of his head. “but i know—— i KNOW it’ll work-! see , it’s got—“ and he rambled on , pointing out the thresher’s wheels and conveyors , how the wheat would be put headfirst one way , and the grains would shoot out of the chute on the other end , leaving just the stalks while the horses powered the gears to turn.
“— this way , the horses won’t have to stay in their stables all day , and the village can harvest more wheat before the storms come in and ruin the crops! do you——” &. it was then that he paused , his heartbeat rising to catch in his throat. “—do you like it-? what do you think?”
Most of what Varian said went over his head. He smiled at the other enjoying his enthusiasm of his son explaining it. It reminded him of his younger days, when he was over zealous about his training. How hard he had worked in a ravaged land looking to make his home better. To serve his king better.
Quirin blinked looking at the device then back at his son. He hadn’t notice when the younger stopped talking. The man paused “It’s, interesting.” Quirin knew the village would be resistant to it. The device was new and it came from his son, who didn’t have the best track record of asking before doing. “We will have to see how well it works in the fields.”
@quirinamber
adira leaned with her back against the door as she observed the man before her. a doting father with a bouncing baby boy. never thought she’d see the day… it wasn’t as if the DARK KINGDOM was overflowing with people willing to have kids there. Yeah! Come settle down and raise your kids in the barren wasteland with the death rock!
“can’t it be both?” she asked, smiling as her head tilted slightly to the side.
Quirin walked over to her laughing. “I suppose it could.” He placed Varian in her arms amused when the boy tried to touch as much of her armor as possible. He rolled his arms sighing. “Children are much harder to raise then I thought.” He commented moving to the kitchen to make her something to eat. “Have you made any headway in your venture?” he asked starting to set up for dinner. Quirin paused listening to his son babble at Adira. “I have...worries.” He finally said turning to look at her leaning against the counter.
@quirinamber
Months and months had gone by ever since the fateful day on which the young, reckless alchemist had unintentionally trapped his father in unbreakable amber. This unleashed a chaotic series of events that eventually ended with Varian committing treason and being imprisoned for his crimes.
He was eventually let go, (after quite some time) and of course, the very first thing he did was go back to the very thing at the top of his priorities: freeing his father.
It took weeks of sleepless nights, fits of anger, and frustration, but he finally managed to find the solution that seemed to make the amber break away from Quirin, but he got there in the end…
Tears welled up in Varian’s eyes as he watched the golden colored rocks finally allow his father to move again. He ran closer to him and tried to say something, but he just couldn’t seem to utter any words…
“D-dad…I…” He whimpered, his mind running rampant with a million thoughts he would have liked to say, but they all remained stuck in his throat and all the poor boy could do was cry.
Quirin fell to the ground coughing, his head was swimming trying to adjust to the noise. No longer was the world muffled or muddled, shaky legs raised the man to his full height. His hand reached out pulling the his whimpering son close to him. Quirin rubbed the boy’s hair trying to calm down the fear. He need his son to be quiet, he needed time to regain his own senses. The Note he had be clutching was released drifting down to the ground. “Varian?” Quirin’s own voice sounded scratched and unused. His other arm wrapped around his son letting out a breath slowly. “What’s wrong? Are you hurt?” He crouched down looking at his son’s face worry taking over his own. Quirin had to know his son was ok, that he wasn’t harmed while he was trapped.
Black Opal headcannons #1
The Black Opal is a drop of the Hunter’s Moon. The name of the Full Moon seen in October. It dripped down into the Dark Kingdom, coming in contact with opal. The Opal is alive and lashes out at any who have a wish to harm it.
Starter Call!!
Like this for a starter while I work on replies and theories

Quirin is just sad.
This is a sad man guys. Like think of Varian’s action Queen For A Day. I think Quirin was hearing himself or his former King in Varian. (I’m leaning more towards a young him.) He had to see his same actions being echoed in his son. Him being quick to nip this in the bud. Varian is the type who would seek out the Black Opal, he would try to harness it’s power for the good of his community. He would falter and fall and Quirin couldn’t let that happen to his son. It’s why he keeps it a secrete. This is a man who was forced to leave his home, who knows first hand how terrible the rocks can be. He probably grew up thinking of how they were a force for good and helped his kingdom prosper, only to watch it all turn into ruin. Him having failed to protect his King from his own rash actions haunting him. He sees Fredric and Corona as a second chance to save a kingdom from a brash choices. He hears what Varian says and it cuts him to his core that he can’t just tell his son who he is, what the rocks and where they come from. Quirin knows if he tells Varian any of this, he’ll go searching. His son will fall to the Black Opal like his king. He can’t let that happen to his son who has a better life and a better chance here in Corona. Quirin also relents knowing he has a duty to help (perhaps the only) living bloodline of his kingdom. So when he chooses to tell Varian in that moment is when it all backfires on not only Varian but Quirin. Quirin has now failed not only 2 kings with his actions but his son as well. He is a sad....sad man. Dude needs a hug.
wcrthpride:
☄ || “i-i-i actually made something for you!” he was giddy , perhaps ‘over the moon’ , so to speak. “i call it a ‘wheat thresher’. it’s so you and the villagers can harvest the wheat grains in the fields through horse power without having to take so much time!”
He stared at the device, dread was eating at him when he saw the exposed cogs. Yes it was a brilliant idea, but some of the villagers were not as brilliant as his son. He chuckled rubbing his neck. “We’ll have to give it a try out in of the fields.” One that was far from the village and a main source for the village
Quirin went to Corona originally to stop Fredric. In Fredric he saw his former king and choose to stay in Corona to do what he couldn’t in his old home. He settled into his life telling Adira he would keep watch in Corona encase something went amiss or if Fredric choose to seek out the black opal. Quirin lied to Fredric on who he was and where he was from. He told Fredric he was from a closer kingdom (maybe Vardaso) working as a personal guard. More on Black Opal and theory creations soon!

“Varian,” he stared at the new invention. “what did you create today?”
