tw// mentions of Holocaust, Nazi
Please do your research before you finally come to a conclusion of what this show is :)
It’s not.. about the Holocaust at all (if you see it as entirely) if it was then there would be content filled with it, like you’d see it everywhere, but you don’t. You just see all the bad things about the show tbh.
There is plenty, but not a lot to show that Hetalia is “about the Holocaust”. Hetalia IS problematic, but for different reasons. (Ex: sexism, few of the characters being portrayed terribly, etc.)
your show is literally called “hetare italia” (stupid italy) you fucking goy, they weren’t literally meaning “it’s about the holocaust” they were meaning that it’s antisemitic
you wanna know what italy did that made the rest of the axis powers consider it a moron? they were extremely lenient with killing jews. here’s a snippet from wikipedia, if you want citations go on the actual article and ctrl + F.
“Unlike Jews in other Axis-aligned countries, no Jews in Italy or Italian-occupied areas were murdered or deported to concentration camps in Germany before September 1943. In the territories occupied by the Italian Army in Greece, France and Yugoslavia, Jews even found protection from persecution. The Italian Army actively protected Jews in occupation zones, to the frustration of Nazi Germany, and to the point where the Italian sector in Croatia was referred to as the “Promised Land”. Up to September 1943, Germany made no serious attempt to force Mussolini and Fascist Italy into handing over Italian Jews. It was nevertheless irritated with the Italian refusal to arrest and deport its Jewish population, feeling it encouraged other countries allied with the Axis powers to refuse as well.”
you wanna say the k slur sooooo bad oooooooo oooooo you wanna say the k slur so bad. fuck off i’m gonna beat the shit out of you
Damn first of all chill, I wasn’t even being rude or anything I was just saying at least give research to why it’s not about the Holocaust.
Anyways imagine using a fake post to make me look like a bad person other than liking Hetalia.. really funny
Idk if you blocked me either but if you did, unblock me bitch, let’s argue some more. :)
@correctaph-quotes this show was DEFINITELY anti-Semitic - even when I was fan as a 13yo, there were many scenes i chose to ignore/gloss over that made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. am i misremembering or was there not dialogue in which Italy says he has a present/something for Germany, and they respond with something like “Oh great what is it, another j*w?”?????????
(I am goy and I don’t feel comfortable even quoting this, so I censored the word - if any jewish folks happen across this, please let me know if I should either uncensor it or use a different word! I thought it was important to bring this up.)
Fifty fucking centuries later and I rise from the dead to talk about Hetalia once again.
It is 100% anti-semitic, I agree with that wholeheartedly, in Japanese and in English. We can’t pretend it’s not. However, as some have mentioned the more uncomfortable and blatantly anti-semitic comments made in the animation (and key here that I note is ANIMATION) was done by Funimation. The Germany to Italy quote of “Oh great what is it, another J*w” comment done by Patrick Seitz was 100% uncalled for to have Funimation dub in. It’s specifically in Episode 7, but if you look at the translation of the Japanese, Germany actually states 今度は何だ手短いにな / kondo ha nani da te mijikai ni na, which translates roughly to “What now, make it quick”. I’m not here to defend Japanese Hetalia, it has its own problems (still very anti-semitic, sexist, racist, blatantly phobic of certain nationhoods, etc), but I feel it’s very very very important to note that the more problematic translations of things were done by Funimation. I remember more problematic quotes too though have forgotten them, specifically I forget the one that was made by Poland in dub that practically made my mother (who’s third generation American, but Polish from her father’s side) freak out and almost destroy the DVD I had because it reminded her of the bullying in her youth for being Polish in the 60′s.
Hetalia’s supposed to be funny sure, and has it’s slew of problems, but Americans made it worse than it already was essentially, including fandom I feel. The behavior done in cosplay at various Holocaust museums and memorials that we have physical evidence of is staggering, and as a former hetalia cosplayer and roleplayer myself I recognize that. However I think as well that recognizing that the fandom has the power to work past everything wrong in the series (both strips by Himaruya and the Anime, including dub) that it can become very wholesome. I’ve met some of my best friends due to this series, and so I don’t want to discredit it either because the people I met are good people too (although I also admit I’ve met my string of bad beans too). So Hetalia’s problematic yes, but the certain parts of fandom tend to not be. That’s mostly my point if anything. Also to be fair, I feel like those who work to actually educate themselves with the history behind the series tend to be not terrible beans, but perhaps that’s bias as a Master’s student in history talking.
It’s been 84 years gif here
I’m actually back on tumblr? I’m still in Hetalia hell? Helltalia? And who’s surprised that I am still as much a history major in Grad school as I always was.
Western history loves to brag about their geniuses, philosophers, thinkers, and innovators throughout history but as far as I know, nobody talks about geniuses in non western history. Why can’t an Aztec community have their neighborhood Einstein who loved to study engineering and physics and helped build an efficient-running town?
Reblog is you're uncomfortable with how eurocentric our understanding of history is.
Numerous Egyptian murals: literally explain that stone blocks and large sculptures were transported using water
“Ancient Aliens” fuckos:
In history, we actually call this (and I wish I could make this up) the “Rise of the West” narrative, which focuses solely on how the West modernized the rest of the world, and thus these sorts of things are considered invalid. While there’s arguments on where it began, a lot of belief that since the “west” inherited Ancient Greece/Ancient Roman culture, they were able to modernize first.
It’s also a hot garbage take.

Hi I’d like to help some friends out:
1. When you say “especially when there’s a couch or desk below” you’re actually talking about loft beds, which are (essentially boiled down to) bed frames on sticks. FURTHERMORE, the last image shown was a loft bed sold by IKEA, but is not in production anymore.
Loft beds are crazy expensive, I know since I’ve been trying to buy one for my new bedroom revamp, and we’ve actually come across this? Now I know a lot of people can’t do the woodworking thing, but if you have any way to, save yourself massive cash by making it yourself. This guy made this for approx $120 USD (though it depends on your location for the materials and stuff!) and actually is a lot sturdier than most loft beds seem to be rated for.
Hope this can help some people out!
