"Decolonize Everything"
“When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish caught… then you will realize money cannot be eaten.”
Anti-colonial graffiti seen in Pensacola, Florida
"Canada, the most affluent of countries, operates on a depletion economy which leaves destruction in its wake. Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money."
-Alanis Obomsawin, Abenaki, 1972
As a trans woman I can confirm that they indeed found an ancient forest inside a 630ft deep sinkhole in China
cis people can reblog this but keep it on subject, please
Happy pride month everyone always remember that the sinkhole has an ecosystem large enough to house not only insects but likely several species of small birds or mammals
legit excited to see this come around again
i just had a childhood memory of getting "um actually"ed when i said that one of my favourite bands was Alan Parsons Project. a grown adult (a family friend?) wanted to make sure i knew that Alan Parsons was a producer and the Project was *not* a "band"
when i was tiny i loved Arabel's Raven which i knew from bernard cribbins reading it on Jackanory and also i think an audio recording which my mum would put on when i was going to sleep. in case you are unfamiliar, arabel adopts a raven after her dad ran into it in his taxi and they nurse it back to health. the raven knows how to say one english word, and the narrative contrives various occasions for a corvid to interject an adverb to comic effect, although the literary allusion was "just for the grown ups". anyway, picture my astonishment when i heard the vocals on The Raven going "NEVERMORE"! it was quite the Tales of Mystery and Imagination indeed
