I’m not about to reblog the post because fuck me I don’t want to deal with the drama, but you know that post going round about how soon it’s going to be “problematic” to criticize anti-vaxxers soon? It was a god damned prophecy.

Words I just saw go over my dash from a now ex-mutual:

Oh my god no.

Ableist privilege is thinking “well I’m healthy so I don’t need to” and not getting vaccinated. That’s ableist. Because it harms us. People being able to get vaccinated and not vaccinating for personal choices made up of false science and mystic woo, is ableism, and it is a privilege afforded to them by their good health.

Someone getting vaccinated is not ableist privilege. It’s a god damn social and moral responsibility that raises herd immunity, so that those of us who can’t vaccinate don’t die. It is a privilege to be healthy enough to be able to vaccinate? Arguably, yes. Is it ableist? Fuck no.

The last thing we want is people worrying that it’s problematic to get vaccinated because it’s a form of privilege. Like are you kidding me? Are you actually kidding me? We’re dealing with one of the worst measles outbreaks in quite literal decades, and you’re trying to create discourse over healthy people doing their social and moral duty to help fight it. Are you fucking kidding me?

just to throw in my two cents, there is a difference between rights and privileges

a privilege is something you can do, a right is something you should do. emphasis on should.

meaning, when we say we have a right to live, we mean we have a right to live and let others live. by not getting vaccinated, that person is infringing on their and other’s rights to life. we all have a duty to protect each other regardless of how well we know each other, and by not getting vaccinated ou are threatening your people and your countries. its not just america.

but vaccines cause autism, you say. who cares? better to live autistic than to die of measles or tuberculosis or any of these other diseases that now threaten humanity.
