i've gotten a couple of messages asking if i would do a tutorial on how i achieved the color manipulation/isolation on this beyond evil set. (@janicesopranos and @katedanielss i'm so sorry this took as long as it did!) i'm always nervous about making tutorials bc i over-explain.

this got long and i felt like i needed a different way to present this. so i followed @ruanbaijie's fine example and made slides 💀 (check out her amazing guide to selective coloring and color theory here!)

a couple of items to note:

this tutorial is for photoshop (i don't use photopea but if it has a camera raw filter and smart object conversion (or something similar) then i would imagine this could translate?

i'm assuming you already know how to make gifs in ps

i work in timeline (i think timeline is required for this method?)

this method requires the camera raw filter and heavy use of smart objects. these can be hard on your system's memory.

this method takes longer to do, but i think the results are worth it!

full disclosure—i did not come up with this method on my own! i learned it from my immensely talented mutual @laurabenanti who was kind enough to show me how it works and gave their blessing for me to share it. thank you, cat!!!

i also added a finishing touch of a halftone effect to the set:

i learned this technique by using this video tutorial by texturelabs! the tutorial also includes a few free resources to download to create the effect. they explain this part far better than i ever could!

i hope this all makes sense and is helpful to creators. you can always drop a message in my askbox if something doesn't make sense, or you have other questions.
