Here’s to writing it badly, my dears, the psychological horror that this undertaking is.
“how do you write again after a long break?” you just start. that’s the horror of it. you just. start. and then the story opens its eyes.
This is exactly how it is.
You slide the top off of the box, and all of a sudden the story takes a gasping breath in and its eyes fly open. It lives! It’s a living thing in your imagination! Those wings are stretching and it’s about to take flight again!
Learn to read.
Life gets infinitely more stressful that way, but at least you know what’s going on.

"Just because I'm right, doesn't mean I'm being helpful" is a vastly underrated thought process that I strongly encourage others to get comfortable with
Hey op thanks for fundamentally rearranging my molecules in some helpful way this fine evening
My favorite thing to say at work is “I’m not here to be helpful” when someone asks a question to which I have the answer, but the answer is not convenient.
It usually goes something like this:
Coworker: (question)
Me: (answer)
Coworker: “That’s not helpful!”
Me: “I’m not here to be helpful.”
The looks of consternation I get are very funny.
my favorite part about tumblr is I can release posts into the wild and have no idea whether they’ll get three notes or three thousand notes and frankly it’s none of my business
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Well, I want to see treats when I go into the break room at work, so I guess I’ll be making that change in the world.
Write it badly or it'll never be written

Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Please keep interacting with this post because when I come to tumblr to procrastinate, this shows up again in my notifications and guilts me into writing again
The Germans really cooked making "Hobbyless behaviour" an insult. It is both devastating, applicable to a wide range of people and behaviours, and doesn't resort to swearing.
Man ranting on the internet about the Superbowl halftime show or complaining that something is "woke"? Hobbyless Behaviour. Girls mocking another girl for not looking right? Hobbyless Behaviour. Mindless vandalism? Hobbyless Behaviour.
It is more powerful than "get a life" or the English "You're Sad" because it gets to the central point of the matter, and that is wonderful. Danke, Deutsch.
I just wrote two hundred and sixty-one words, and none of them were helpful for “posting next chapter” purposes.
tumblr irl meetup but we won't say who is who, instead you get a list of all the blog urls that are attending and you have to try to match each person with their blog. You can ask questions but you can't ask for the blog name directly.
it's like crime dinner but instead you gather clues by observing who laughs at which dick joke.
i dont know what im writing, said the writer, who continued writing anyway
I’m sort of delighted by learning that very naughty hockey players are called “rats”.
Tripped a guy?
Rat.
Punched a guy?
Rat.
Hit a guy in the face with your stick?
Rat.
Sent a guy flying into the boards?
Rat.
Flattened the rookie?
Rat.
Picked on the goalie?
Rat.
I mean, this kind of guy is called many other things as well, but he’s mostly just a rat doing rat things on ice with knives strapped to his feet.

[ID: Gifs from the intro to “Good Morning”. Don, Kathy, and Cosmo perch in Don’s kitchen.
DON: Whoopee fellas! I feel this is my lucky day, March 23rd.
COSMO: Your lucky day’s the 24th.
DON: What?
COSMO: It’s 1:30 already, it’s morning! /End ID.]
ao3 does in fact have a reccomendations tab and it's called going to your favorite author's bookmarks list
This works in reverse btw. I have some regular commenters and have also gone through their bookmarks. Let me rustle through your folders pls.
I’ve gone to at least three writers and just… politely notified them that I read everything they wrote, and then I found that I liked it so much that they must have good taste in reading.
Armed with that, I waded into their bookmarks, devoured those, enjoyed them profusely, and then went back to reread their stuff because their taste was so good it made me want to read their stuff stuff they wrote again.
So yeah, check out the bookmarks. You might have fun.
"There's millions of Tumblr users" to you. To me there's only about 12 and we all reblog the same five posts from each other
Hello @staff,
Please, I do not like this weird little update you’re doing to this site.
I’m sort of new here, but looking through all the notes for a post is one of my favorite things to do. Please don’t take that away. A post should be able to keep all of the notes it gets in one place. Dividing all of that out seems like nonsense for a site that has a reputation for people looking at the tags and comments for a post just as much as they look at the post itself.
Not to be rude, but I don’t like it. Please change it back.
