I hate ripping up the papers that hold my drafts.
Drafts are very important to me. I cherish seeing the process of my thoughts spill out, and fear that throwing away drafts means throwing away memories I could look back on years from now.
But for once, those sentimental feelings didn’t appear when I held these drafts. It was a bit weird not to feel sentimental, and I did try to save the papers because doubt sank in. I almost put the drafts back into storage, but I realized that I didn’t need to keep this set of writings.
Every word conveyed in my drafts was translated and edited into a piece that I feel better conveys the feelings I had been trying to express to myself. In “Never Beg, Never Cry," the feelings present in the ripped drafts live on, so it’s safe to say I won’t need the ripped paper to keep the memories that fed this writing piece.
Spending the afternoon looking through art books ✨
Last night, I spent a good few hours making a new artwork for my other brand, and it made me realize that I've been drawing a lot. The Icarus collection caught my heart, and I absolutely loved making the feathers and exploring what Icarus's story means to me, but after last night, I felt like I needed a break from drawing. So I decided to shift my focus to other people's art instead.
My brother has a small collection of art books, so I picked up some that seemed interesting to me and just slowed down enough to actually look through them. Read the introductions and admired some of the art techniques and choices an artist made when putting together their piece.
I took pictures of the books and some of the pages I loved looking at.
Out of the seven books I got, the "Art of Mondo" and the Miyazaki one got my attention the most. The "Art of Mondo" let me look at art posters and see how someone drew inspiration from movies to make them. I had a calm time reading the Miyazaki one and understanding how Miyazaki made an impression on a lot of people.
Really needed this time, especially since it feels like I've been trying to juggle different art pieces and projects all at once. Probably gonna spend more time looking through the books and taking a small break from drawing (at least with my current projects), so that when I start my next collection I won't feel so tense about it.
Since I had been sharing my favorite myth (Icarus) all week, I want to know yours!
🪶 When I was thinking about the story of Icarus, two phrases came to mind, and those were "Heed the warning" to follow what Daedalus, Icarus' father, had told him when they had escaped. The second phrase that came to mind was "But never stop flying" to mimic the emotions Icarus must've felt when he was flying higher and higher, right before he fell.
The feather artworks were made to reflect two sides of a story, and take note on how you can take heed of a warning but still let yourself fly as far as you can.
🪶 The Last thing Icarus saw while falling into the water...
I was playing around with the artwork I made for the "Icarus Falling" collection, and I realized that my messing around with the feathers and the sun reminded me of water, in a way.
☀️ “Icarus Falling” Artwork - The Feathers and the Sun were in his vision as he fell. The Sun was scorching, and the wax melted faster as the water below drew closer, but he still felt what it meant to be free of human limitations.
🪶 Artwork is a part of the “Icarus Falling” mini Collection and is available on my Etsy!
✨ Artwork stats:
Date Started: May 16, 2026
Date Finished: May 17, 2026
Time Worked On: 1 Hour, 19 Minutes
Started off as a doodle
☀️🪶 The "Icarus Falling" mini art collection is out and features two new artworks involving feathers, and a poem. I had so much fun making this and I'm so excited to share it with you guys!
☀️🪶 What do you get from the story of Icarus?
"Icarus Falls" Mini Collection is coming out tomorrow! Stay tuned tomorrow to see the full collection and the two artworks inspired by the story of Icarus.
🪶 ✨ My Icarus mini art collection is coming out soon! I had some trouble making the stickers for this bundle, but I figured it out. The next thing I gotta do is make a quick poem for the collection that I wanted to include and then it should be ready to go.
The myth of Icarus is one that I think about often. So, I was so excited to make these artworks and poem inspired by that myth! Hopefully, if everything works well, I'll be able to have this bundle out by Saturday.
Made some more Whirlwind Bookmarks because I didn't even realize I had ran out! Always calming to make laminated bookmarks, especially at midnight. So quiet and actually got to use my radio when I haven't been using it for a while.
I managed to finish printing out the bookmarks before the power flickered, too! So, no misprints happened.
✨ Last Night, I took some time to brainstorm my upcoming collection and ended up developing eight potential artworks I could do for the collection, which will be called "Find Me at the Sea"!
Due to the amount of artwork, some of which I'm nervous to do, I decided not to name this a summer collection. Simply because I don't wanna put a due date on this collection and risk artworks not meeting my standard. Imma try to set a soft due date for August, but I won't give an official date until I finish the artworks I want to include. 😅
But I'm working on my collection! I'm really excited for this and can't wait to develop these potential artworks and any writing/backstory that comes with them!
✨Just a heads-up: The freebie print “Past the Fields of Broken Glass” will be given out with orders until July 31st. Starting in August, a new freebie art print will be given out! I already know what the new freebie print will be, but I’ll share that when August comes 😊
😊 Sending out one of my "Water Man in the Maze" Stickers! Thank you so much for this order!
✨ Packing up a "Passing on Strength" and a "Lu-lu" sticker for Sage! Thank you so much for the order, it means a lot to me! 💖
✨ Sketching out some concepts for the upcoming Summer Collection! Decided to fully go in and do an ocean, sea life art collection. This is the first sketch I've done, and I'm looking forward to doing some shells, maybe some Seahorses, Turtles, and waves. Stuff like that.
✨ Got to pack up an 11 x 14 “Across the Land” art print! One of my favorite prints and I love seeing it whenever it’s in large print form.
