Second DSMP lore post of the day, welcome back 2022 BUT-

There's something that always puzzles me about people who claim cTechno could have just gotten both himself and cTubbo out of the Red Festival situation.

If that was an option, why wouldn't he have?

The answer is because it wasn't an option. ccTechno confirmed this. cTechno confirmed this. Using your brain confirms this.

ccTechno didn't even know his fireworks could kill people in one hit before his first shot - he assumed he'd have to shoot multiple times to kill Tubbo, let alone kill multiple people with one shot. By extension, cTechno didn't know either. Tubbo was unarmed and without armor. Techno would have needed to 1v2 while also keeping Tubbo safe, and that's assuming the crowd wouldn't have also joined the fight (which they did). The chances of either one or both of them dying anyway were practically 99%. So he chose to persevere his single life

Now, you can still argue about the morality of that choice. When Techno does apologise for the Red Festival during the Revenger stream, he doesn't say "sorry for not saving you" or even "sorry for not getting us both out". He says, "I should have been willing to die for my beliefs". cTechno knows he most likely couldn't have gotten them both out safely, but feels he should have risked dying in the attempt.

(this post isn't about the character development that led him to that statement, but just know it makes me lose it a bit /pos)

ccTechno spoke in length about how one of his annoyances with how some people regarded his character was that they assumed, because he was good at PVP, he could just effortlessly 1v1 multiple people, while that's not true. cTechno got his ass kicked during the prison escape, the Green Festival, and during Doomsday, even losing all but 1 heart on some occasions.

So it's frustrating when people claim cTechno could have just fought his way out of the Red Festival while also keeping Tubbo safe, without any proof to back that up. "He should have fought his way out," they say. "How? I don't know, he just should have. He's just that strong, I guess (<- never mind the fact cTechno also did flee the Red Festival itself because he dropped to below 3 hearts). No, I don't have proof that he could, or proof that cTechno thought he could but made a deliberate choice not to do so. I'm just saying it's so."

But let's pretend for a bit. Let's pretend that cTechno could have fought his way out with Tubbo safe and sound. Let's pretend that was an option and cTechno was fully aware of it being an option...

Why wouldn't he have?

What possible explanation is there for cTechno in character (or even ccTechno out of character) to not take that option?

This is the guy who tried to talk his way out of the situation, stalled for over three minutes in the hopes allies would intervene (to the point that cSchlatt called him out on it), and tried to leave the stage only for his way to be barred. Why would cTechno do all that, then see a chance to get both himself and Tubbo out without either of them needing to die, and then decide to kill Tubbo anyway? It makes no sense. And absolutely never have I gotten a proper response to this from anybody who has this 'lore opinion' (in quotations because if it's objectively untrue it's not an opinion lol, that's just making shit up).

cTechno didn't gain anything from killing cTubbo at the Red Festival. If anything, it made Pogtopia more divided and made the rebellion more stressed. It ruined his relationship with several people. Techno gave no indication that he wanted to kill Tubbo or took pleasure out of it, he tried to avoid it, he didn't plan for it to happen or want to be there. If he could have not done it, why would he? Like, it makes no sense for cTechno as a character unless you're claiming he just wanted to do it for shits and giggles? He's just an asshole, I guess? Which, if that's your takeaway of the character, it's dumb and doesn't add up.

It definitely makes no sense from a writing standpoint unless you're claiming you know cTechno better than ccTechno does or are somehow claiming ccTechno was lying when he said that cTechno didn't see any other way out of that situation. In which case, like, I think that's really disrespectful. Plus, if ccTechno didn't even know, how could cTechno possibly know?

So yeah, that's my two cents on why "cTechno could have just fought his way out of the Red Festival while keeping cTubbo safe" isn't just completely inaccurate to events, it also has no narrative basis.

Thinking about those kinds of gritty cyberpunk scifi AUs and the concept of Technoblade being forced to sell his life to pay a debt, with which I mean he sells his literal personhood to somebody else. Not his body, not even technically his freedom, but the more nebulous concept of the person he is.

I'm imagining a typical cyberpunk type setting where late stage capitalism and corrupt government runs the show. People are hardly seen as people, they are looked at by the corporations who run everything as potential market demographics. Valuable only in how you can appeal to them to spend their tiny amount of money.

One of the only ways to climb up the ladder is to become a brand yourself, to make sure some poor schmuck down in the city's overcrowded ecosystem believes they want to buy what you're selling. Influencers and microcelebrities and all that crap. Just make people believe they can live a better life by buying the right products or make the right investments.

Techno didn't want fame. But he got it anyway. A small amount, by becoming the underdog turned champion of a popular sport (either some sort of sci-fi MMA or fight ring, or maybe some kind of cool futuristic racing). He gets pulled into that world against his will, already has a huge amount of debt because of his upbringing, struggles to get a penny from the shitty folks running the sport who are trying to pull a fast one on him.

Techno gets in real big trouble, financially. But he has something worth selling now.

I think Philza's anger towards the island and the federation is easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things. As he is not very loud about it and because he is not very involved in a lot of the ongoing lore groups of late or in the detective circle itself.

But make no mistake, Philza Minecraft is pissed af about the island trying to kill the eggs.

He just handles that anger differently from some other qsmp members. This is for most because of his relationship with finite endings and death. As the hardcore player of Minecraft that he is, Philza is very well acquainted with the possibility and certainty that something you love will die and that you will have to say goodbye. Regardless of how much effort you put into it or how much you love it.

The only thing you can do is to try to prepare as much as you can and avoid all unnecessary risks to delay the inevitable.

And that is exactly what he does with the eggs as well. He grinds off stream to get better weapons that will have a lower chance of backfiring on the eggs, he instructs Chayanne how to land crits to do more damage and makes sure that Tallulah wears her armour when going out.

More importantly, he constantly reminds the eggs that the only thing that they can do is to try to keep themselves alive by improving their chances of survival but that ultimately, the island wants them dead and that is not something that they can fight against. He explains that there will be and already have been unfair fights that they were not meant to win. That this is just the world that they live in.

This does not mean however that he has given up or is not mad. He is still willing to fight.

You can hear his anger if you listen to the way he shouts at the admins in the sky about unfair combat chances, about how the binary monster is a coward and how the island is a fraud as they do not want them happy at all, regardless about what they claim about enjoying about the island.

It is in the way that he names his weapon designed to fight the binary moster 'D I E' in binary code.

It is in the way how quiet he got when Tallulah and Chayanne were unfairly killed out of nothing during the 'nightmare' on the beach.

But most of all, it is in the way that he makes sure that he spends his time with the eggs in joy instead of wallowing in sadness or anger. Because he knows the value of enjoying the time you have left before something is lost or unreachable forever.

It's basically about a princess who has to flee her home country to escape a coup and is sent into hiding in Louisiana, where she has to pretend to be a Normal Teenager tm. Anyways Techno as the princess and Phil as the agent who saves him who he's sent to live with him and wilbur as said agent's son who has to help him pass as Normal has me cackling 🦝

I swear I've seen somebody bring up this exact AU concept once already but I can't remember for the life of me when/who that was... Absolute banger tho, lives in my head rant free!

I feel like Techno would be a combination of Spencer and Morgan. Definitely Spencer in that he'd be a genius with a lot of book smarts and also socially not very adept (and very whumpable hehe). But in some ways probably more similar to Morgan, like his self-confidence and willingness to sacrifice himself for his friends and not asking for help/using humor to cope.

like we as a generation - i'm talking especially young adults who are just entering the workforce - are so so lonely! i think about it all the time. between the incoming recession and cost of living crisis + the rise of wfh + processing pandemic trauma so many of us live deeply isolated lives and i think we deserve better...i'm working fully remote and i consider myself lucky because i do have friends that i see regularly but there's a hunger for that place you can go to to be around people in an organic but meaningful way to you that is not being addressed rn! we now more than ever need communities!
