Oh he handled his rage exactly how he wanted to. It was not out of control. It was very well controlled. He did not shoot a random child or himself, and because he didn’t want to. He controlled his rage and aimed it at the daughter of the woman he felt entitled to. It was not the rejection that hurt the girl. It was the man. The man decided the punishment for disobedience was the death (which was his intent if not yet the outcome) of the most loved person to this woman.

This is not a loss of control. This is exacting control.

And this is a perfect example of how all men benefit from women’s reinforced fear of being hurt, or having their loved ones hurt, if they say no. Now this attempted murder has entered our collective consciousness, and women will hesitate a little longer, cringe back their instinct to resist, and acquiesce when a man pressures her, because the punishment for saying no is having your daughter shot. This is how patriarchy functions as terrorism.

like, idk. I used to feel so compelled to make excuses for being single, whether it was self-deprecating jokes about myself or insisting that I was too busy for a relationship or making myself go out on uncomfortable and pointless dates just to make a show of trying to not be single. there’s such an expectation that if you’re single you should be actively working of changing that, and it’s like. nah. there are 9999 other things you can be focusing your time and energy on and if you don’t really feel like being in a relationship now or ever that’s cool.

I once told a man about the abuse that happened to me. Like, I told him graphic details bc I thought I could trust him. Months later, I come to find out he used those graphic details and abused his girlfriend in the same way my ex did to me. Like, he literally copied some things. I know because some experiences were really specific and one does not just come up with those on his own…

Do not share your abuse with men, not even make therapists, because they will 1) use it as pornographic fantasy material 2) use it as inspiration to abuse the women in their lives 3) use it to target you for the same kind of abuse, because abuse victims present as very easy targets or 4) share the intimate details of your abuse in a scientific journal or online without your permission

I normally dislike any kind of insinuation that women need to adjust their behaviour to men, but this is actually just true and so important. It’s not as much about adjusting our behaviour as just learning who to trust and who not to. And men are not to be trusted, especially not with this. They are our oppressors and however lovely it would be to be able to trust them, we better assume, always, that we can’t.
