Last: Charlie melted against him, letting himself believe for the first time that this was real, that they could have a future. Together.

Last: And to think that it had all started with accidental phone sex.

First: Nick rolled his motorcycle into a parking spot, pulling off his helmet then massaging his sore neck. 

Last: "I'm sure."

First: "Now, turn to your partner. 

Last: He'd learned a lot in those two weeks and wasn't about to let them go to waste.

There are no “stupid” asks, unless someone is purposely being obtuse, “reactionary”, or troll-y, all of which I have gotten and either ignore or reply to passive aggressively.

The sweetest ones are the random ones I get where it’s just “you make me happy” or “Steph! <3″ or “I appreciate everything you do!”. I got a few this morning when I opened my asks again, LOL. I like those since I don’t get a lot of happy things happening in my RL these days. Those always make my mornings when I see them.

I have been blocked from all FB groups just now until Sunday - someone must have reported something I posted to FB. As I don't post anything bad or against community guidelines, I'm thinking it was probably malicious. ALL my posts are gone - my fics and the lovely reader comments, my fic and podfic recs and links for other people, the artists I promote, my FTH posts to raise money for charity... How to write a good fic cliff hanger, so that people would subscribe? In my fic in chapter two something bad/serious would happen with Sherlock, I won't bore you with details but it would be life changing. Thank you, Steph.

Ah, I personally think any cliffhanger would work, BUT I also don’t read WiP’s because my brain confuses details if I am reading two NEW fics at the same time, LOL. So like... if there’s a cliffhanger, I usually keep reading until it’s 4 AM, LOL LOL.

But seriously though, you don’t need to have a cliffhanger to get people to keep coming back. As long as you have readers to your fic, they’ll be back to read more <3

BUT I do welcome other authors to offer their opinions! <3

When I encounter a WiP, I sneak a peak at the last couple paragraphs to get an idea if the story halts at a distressing place. If it does, I won’t read it. 

I won’t read it until the crisis is resolved -- whether that’s the next released chapter or maybe the entire book-length story. 

Telling a story with a cliffhanger-ending to a segment is an honorable tradition which goes back to Scheherazade. 

But if you’re not Scheherazade, nor Dickens, please consider if you really want to manipulate your audience that way.

Reply: I don’t think you dreamt it, this does sound like a familiar fic. However, I’m not coming up with it right now. My first impulse is that it’s something by @silentauroriamthereal? But I’m not sure.

As to your other question about your writing, I’m not sure if you’re asking for permission or advice. On the first point, it’s perfectly fine to use the same general plot as another author. You might perhaps name them as your inspiration (if we are able to find the fic). But yes as long as you aren’t copying direct scenes or specific original characters, it’s fine. And I think that answers the second point as well. Just take the idea but make it your own. Make up your own case. You can even base it on real-life cases or other ACD canon cases if you have trouble coming up with case stuff. Add or change obstacles, such as an injury or illness, a skeleton emerging from a closet, or family background. Really the sky is the limit and that’s what’s so great about fan fiction. You can take familiar characters and situations and write them in a way that satisfies you.

Sherlock has been trying to solve a case and it has been taking him days but then John points out something and that instantly helps sherlock crack the case. Sherlock is overjoyed and excited, he immediately grabs John by his shirt and kisses him, without even realizing what he has done. He storms outside and on his way to his destination inside a cab he...finally realizes that he has just kissed John and blushes madly. Meanwhile John has been frozen on the spot ever since XD
