it's so important to me that Phantom is nonbinary and transgender.
Like okay, you'd expect this to kind of be a given, but I've noticed time to time there's kind of this sentiment that a character can not have transitioned; they have Always been nonbinary.
It makes me think of the Vessels from the original game. They have seemingly always been genderless. There is no implications of a transition here -- they are genderless because they Spawned that way.
But Lace and Phantom were made to be Daughters. Phantom was discarded because they were not the ideal form of this. They were forgotten, because they were not "the perfect daughter."
And that's an incredibly trans experience. You were not the perfect daughter. You were not the perfect son. Because you were never these things at all.
Like just the fact that Team Cherry made a character who in some way has negated "Daughterhood." And that that character uses they/them. It does something to me.
Phantom's pronouns do not feel like an accident, they feel VERY tied in to who they are in the story.
