âDonât look now, buâ I think thaâ personâs starinâ at ya.â
âYa sure itâs me anâ not you?â

âWait, What do you mean someone died? Who died?â
âA girl...I didnât really know âer.â

Finn nodded, though a sad smile slipped through without him realising. âThey said so.â He watched as Rae spoke, wanting to reject her offer. âF-Fine. But only âcos ya Rae. Anâ cos ma âead âurts so much ah canâtâŠah canât even remember any drink names.â He walked closer to Rae and pressed his head up against her. âI-I was jusâ checkinâ if ya cool. I-I need somethinâ cool on ma âead.â
âGood choice.â She smiled slightly and ordered them a couple pints. Her brows furrowed as she was first confused as to why he was pressing against her. When he explained, she realized that maybe her offer came at the wrong time. âOn second thought, maybe ya should slow down, yeah? Have some water first.â

âI find the woods less scary than the middle oâ Stamford,â he replied quite simply, shrugging his shoulders up to his ears as he cast his gaze towards the ground. ââSpecially in the middle of thaâ nighâ. People canât be trusted.â He quickly fell silent again, acutely aware of the things he had just divulged to Rae. While, of course, she knew he had to be fairly messed up â they all were, really â he had never really spoken at all in their therapy group, and so nobody really knew much about him or his issues. He tries to settle his nerves by reminding himself that Rae is currently under the influence, and that she most likely wonât remember their conversation at all â at least he hopes. âOh no, no thank you,â he murmured gently, cracking his knuckles in his pockets, âIâI think all of Stamford might be in there.â
Rae chuckled. âItâs true! And people just...they just suck so much.â She gave a smug huff, looking at the ground for a moment. People made up most of her problems. Whether they were starring or outright making fun of her. She was scared by other peopleâs actions that led her to think everyone was judging her, so she judged herself harder than anyone. Rae nodded. âOh, yeah, probably... Finnâs a really popular guy.â
roxy-tyler
âThanks, Rae. So do you! Ya make a gorgeous vampire. I especially love the fangs - Iâll make sure not to get on the wrong side oâ you tonight.â
âAw, thanks. Youâre too sweet, Roxy. Youâll only be on ma bad side if ya try spearinâ me with ya spiral heart moon rod like Buffy the Vamp Slayer.â

He looked up, giving the girl a broad toothy smile. âThe waters wonderful, love. You should pop in and join me!â he laughed. âThough watch out for toâ piranha in the water.â He raised an eyebrow at her costume. âThought they might be scared of the vampire in the water!â he winked.
Rae shook her head and laughed. âUhm, Iâm sure it is, buâ I donât think vampires are really swimmers.â She wished she had the courage to go along with this guyâs idea. He seemed nice enough and totally harmless. It was tempting to swim. She already felt ridiculous in her costume choice, continuously questioning why she bothered with fake lashes and lipstick. It was also the beauty of Halloween. Being something you werenât. Completely washing away the facade would also feel pretty great.

âOh Iâm Cleo by the way I think you know my cousin? Chloe?â
âNice to meet you, Cleo. Iâm Rae. Oh, yeah, Chloe and I...go way back. Mhm.â

His eyes glanced around, realising the faces of those he remembered being around him had taken the drinks he bought them and left him alone. âThereâŠthere were people âere, Rae. I bought âem all drinks.â His eyes flickered around again. âYour turn now. What can I get ya.â
âMmm...Close friends, are they?â She took a look around for herself. Rae locked her eyes with his. âStop wastinâ ya money anâ time on dickâeads, Finn Nelson. Itâs not about me, itâs about you tonight. Iâm buyinâ.â

âSee Iâm totally lame and donât even know who Jason is but I could do Mike Myers. That would be pretty spooky. I will feel just a wee bit bad about stealinâ someone elseâs costume, but Iâm assuming if they brought a mask theyâd have the rest to pull off more than I am.â
âThe hockey mask guy....Friday the 13th? Heâs easy to forget. Mikeâs definitely spooky in costume. Total shit in tha movies. Once you get drinkinâ too, ya wonât feel a wee bit guilty. Can get ya one ta start, if ya like. Iâm Rae, by the way.â

The sound of a familiar voice dragged Tom rather harshly from his thoughts, and his gaze quickly came to land on his fellow therapy-bound crazy. Soft grey eyes widen ever-so-slightly as the face matched up to the name in his mind. âRae!â he responded, his tone equally as bewildered as his expression. The question, however, had his gaze cast down to the floor, his fingers twisting and curling together in front of him as he scrambled for an answer. âIâ I, uh⊠I dunno, really. I just⊠I was walking, and then Iâ I was just looking.â His eyes lifted once more to the building; the walls seemed to be expanding and contracting with every beat of whatever song happened to be playing at that moment, almost like a heart â ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum. âIs this⊠Is this your party?â
âBrave soul ta walk this far in tha wood by yaself. Iâd be creeped out. Or maybe itâs the alcohol talkinâ.â She laughed, a bit embarrassed of herself. She looked back at the house, then back at him when he asked if it was her party. âThis? Oh, no. Not sure whoâs officially. Maybe itâs my mateâs. His birthday, after all. Only threw one party before, fairly big buâ not like this.â Rae thought back to her âsexy partyâ that Chop convinced her to throw. Never listed to him again, despite how well it went. Rae bit her lip before asking, âDâya wanna come in? Get a drink or somethinâ?âÂ

Boldly walking up to the person in front of her, she held out a small shot glass. âDrink.â She commanded. It didnât matter who they were, they wouldnât be able to tell who she was through her costume and fake accent.
Rae was startled by the stranger. She looked down to quickly examine the drink, then back up at the mask. âFuck off, ya crazy. For all I know, ya couldâa spat or pissed in it.â
cleoroseharris
âI think you just accidentally made yourself my drinking buddy for the night.â
âThen I accept.â
jack-peach
âNot such a bad idea. Iâd just need to make sure itâs a mask that can work with someone wearing regular clothing as well. Iâd look a little strange in  power rangers mask without the rest of the suit.âÂ
âMaybe, but you could be the power ranger that woke up late to battle. Thereâs a loop hole for everything. Anyway, something like Mike Myers or Jason would be more fittinâ.â
jack-peach
âYou know in retrospect I should have assumed, but I couldnât remember if this was a costume party or not and now I look like an unspirited fool.â
âEveryoneâs gonna get too trashed to notice. If ya really feel like an âunspirted foolâ, then wait until someone sets their mask down anâ just snatch it.â

The sound of music pulsating through bricks and mortar as he passed was enough to make Tom slow his steps and come to a stop at the front gate. Curiosity prickled at the back of his mind, though at the very forefront was a deep, burning terror of what might be inside. Regardless, though, he was fairly sure anything was better than being at home, jumping out of his skin every time some little kid knocked at the door or every time some hooligans yelled too loudly on the way home from the pub. He was so immersed in his own imagination â wondering what could be happening inside, who might be in there, how it must feel to be comfortable in a situation like that â that he did not at all notice the figure lingering in the darkness.
Rae had gotten to the point where she needed a break from the party. There were so many people, and she had tried being social for a while. She thought sheâd get some fresh air, before facing everyone again. Then she noticed someone stopping in front of the house. She caught a glimpse of his face by the light, but, with a few drinks in her already, the face was a bit fuzzy. Rae walked up and  it became clear who the stranger was. He wasnât really a stranger to her at all. She was surprised to see the boy from group. âT-Tom? Whatâre ya doinâ here?"
roxy-tyler
âDo I look alright? Maybe I shouldâve come as somethinâ spookyâŠâ
âNo, no, ya look fantastic!â

Finn had been drinking from an early stage, not ready to face pretty much anybody. Dressed as an emo, the outfit matched his mood, despite it being his birthday. Lifting another shot in the air he shouted âto Haileyâ. She sas his ex, whoâd now been dead a year. With everything going on with the other girls on that on top of it, he wasnât coping, so into the drink it was. As he took another shot to his lips, his eyes noticed the person staring at him. âDunno whaâ ya lookinâ at,â he mumbled rudely.
She didnât get angry at his remark like she probably would have another day. Sheâd seen how poor his attitude was lately and it made her sad for him. âI was starinâ at you anâ ya know damn well. Jusâ thought ya shouldnât be so...alone here...since itâs ya birthday anâ all.â
