So I had another wonderful idea while at work.
We love Peter Parker in Gotham fics where Dick Grayson is Peterās biological father. Peter has no idea what Gotham is and hates heās in New Jersey. Meeting the Batfam, finding out his bio dad is alive in this universe, and the angst that goes along with Peter getting to know his dead dad.
Now let me introduce a concept that can crush hearts. ā¤ļø
So what if, before Peter Parker arrives in Gotham, before the events of No Way Home, Dick has a kid, his own Peter. It doesnāt matter how he came to be or who the mom is. Dick has a kid and he loves him. The kid doesnāt have to be named Peter but heās an alternative version of Peter.
Sadly, Dickās son dies at a young age. How he dies can be something as simple as a car accident or drowning to something extremely like The Joker blowing up a school and his son was inside.
Dickās son is dead, taken too soon from this world.
So here comes Peter Parker. Whoās a homeless teenager who is trying to survive Gotham on his own after being thrown out of his own universe.
The Batfam meet Peter in and out of costume and itās Tim who makes the connection. Heās staring at Peter and thinks: Would my nephew look like Peter if he grew up to be a teen? This triggers a reaction inside Tim, because why dose this kid look like an older version of his nephew?? And the more he studies Peter, the more he sees the resemblance of his late nephew. Same hair, same eyes, same nose shape!
Tim decides to look up Peter Parker, mostly to end the nagging thoughts that the homeless teen is his dead nephew. Peter seems like a private person, doesnāt talk much about his personal life. All they know heās a teen from Queens, New York whose family is all dead. But when Tim looks him up, he canāt find anything on this kid! No social media! No obituaries about his dead relatives! He finds Peterās birth certificate (didnāt help he has the same birthday as his dead nephewās), social security number, and other legal documents that are all fake! Theyāre forgeries ļæ¼and theyāre really good forgeries! Tim almost passed them off as real.
This is bad! This kid has fake documents! Why would a homeless teenager have fake documents??! Why dose a teen who looks like his dead nephew have fake documents??!
Holy SHIT! Someone must of cloned his nephew!!!
No this canāt be right? Who on earth is sick enough to do that!? (A lot of people) Tim meets Peter again and gets his DNA without the teen noticing. This will prove once and for all this kid isnāt a clone of his dead nephew, his fears can be put to rest, he can focus on more important matters. Like why dose Peter have fake documents?
Itās 100% match, Tim cries.
Tim gets the familiar together and explains his findings. Everyone is freaking out. Dick is angry and devastated, that someone took his childās DNA and cloned him. He also feels hope. Even through the kid may be a clone, itās still his son at the end of the day. ļæ¼this could be Dicks only chance to have his son back, even if itās not his real kid.
Fast forward to the Batfam managing to take (kidnapped) Peter to the manor where the reveal everything to him. ( Doesnāt help that his dead dad is alive and in front of them) The news confuses and overwhelms the kid.
Clone?? They really thought he was a clone??!
After Peter recovers from the shock, he finally tells them the truth. That heās not a clone, but is from a different dimensionļæ¼. He explains his whole life story to the bats.
It ends with Dick and Peter getting to know one another. Their share lose of family not only helps them bond but also heal wounds that they never realized were there until now.

Hereās some context for this sorta story.
When I first thought of my AU I wanted Peter to be born without his abilities.
He was going to live a sheltered life with the Waynes until he got to college, starts an arachnid collection, and gives himself spider abilities eventually.
This would have been how Peter and Quentin meet again if I went with that route.

A 12-year-old Peter stood around, bored as hell. The galas are always filled with adults that talk about rich people stuff.
He gets his grandfather and uncle has to go to these types of parties to maintain their Wayne Enterprise businesses, but did Peter really have to be here? Heās just a kid for crying out loud!

Quentin lean into the teens space. The older manās eyes looked focused and dark, Peter couldnāt help but frown uncomfortably.
The man whispered a name that made the boyās stomach drop.
āParker?ā
The feeling must of shown on his face because Quentin smirked and leaned back.
āHoly shit, it really is you, kid.ā The man chuckles. āI knew it had to be you! You look the same as before.ā
Peter just glares at the man. āWhat do you want, Beck?ā
āI want to know how you got to this universe.ā Beck takes a sip of his champagne. āHow long have you been here, and where is Spider-Man?ā
The boy in question lets out a puff of air as he looks at his glass of soda. āI was born here, Iām not gonna give you the satisfaction on what happened to my old life.ā Peter drinks some of his soda. āSpider-Man doesnāt exist in this world, just like Peter Parker doesnāt exist.ā
Beck raises a brow. āItās like one of those past lives phenomenon?ā
āYou could say that.ā The boy answers.
āIām surprised thereās no Spider-Man. He would fit in perfectly in Gothom with those bats and birds.ā Beck smiles at the teen.
āThereās no need for him. There are plenty of heroes in this world. They donāt need Spider-Man. I got a new chance at life, Iām not going to waste it.ā Peter looks at his father and grandfather talking to the other people in the gala. Peter never got bitten here. He lacked the abilities to be Spider-Man. Of course he could just make a suit and add on the abilities to it. His family wanted him to stay away from the other family business of vigilantism. They wanted him to live the life they could never have. Peter would do anything to be a vigilante in this life, but at the cost of his fatherās peace of mind and happiness?
Peter wasnāt worthy to take on the mantle of Spider-Man.
āSo No following in Tony Starkās footsteps?ā Beck taunts. āI think he would be disappointed in you.ā
Peter just glares back at Quentin. āThen you donāt know him at all then.ā The boy drinks what is left of his soda. āHe would want this for me.ā

When Bruce is 25, Alfred is 55, Dick is 10, Barbara is 12.
When Bruce is 32, Alfred is 62, Dick is 17, Barbara is 19, and Jason is 12.
When Bruce is 35, Alfred is 65, Dick is 20, Barbara is 22, Jason (technically dead) is 15, and Tim is 13.
When Bruce is 39, Alfred is 69, Dick is 24, Barbara is 26, Jason (now undead) is 19, Stephanie is 17, and Tim is 16.
When Bruce is 40, Alfred is 70, Dick is 25, Barbara is 27, Cassandra is 20-21, Jason is 20, Stephanie is 18, Tim is 17, and Damian is 12.
When Bruce is 42, Alfred is 72, Dick is 27, Barbara is 29, Cassandra is 22-23, Jason is 22, Stephanie is 20, Tim is 19, Duke is 17, and Damian is 14.
Phew. Okay hope thatās not totally confusing, but to me itās a timeline that make a lot more sense than the one DC wants us to believe, with Bruceās being always 35-40 and Dick being 30.Ā Ā

Jason is and has been running in survival mode for so long that approaching him normally won't work and either Damian notices/understands it because he is more removed from the situation emotionally than the others, or he just got used to think of this Jason as a wild animal that he forgets to change his approach

You know how some iterations of Uncle Ben say that he was part of the military at one point?
You know the whole āJason was a good soldierā bullshit that Bruce and Alfred pulled when he died?
What if, Jason finds out that alternate himās headstone or eulogy never described him as a āsoldierā in any way. At absolute most, Uncle Benās previous military superiors said that he was a great soldier in a one-off speech at his funeral and that was that.
What if, Jason found out that, the words enshrined on Uncle Benās headstone for all eternity, were as follows:
Here lies Jason Benjamin āBenā Parker
Beloved Son,
Brother,
Friend,
Husband,
Uncle,
And Father
How do you think he would feel? Knowing that a different, alternate version of him who was actually a soldier received more acknowledgement and respect for his personhood and life outside of the āsoldierā title than him? Knowing that his wife, nephew, friends, and loved ones truly acknowledged, saw, and loved him outside of his āsoldierā title, even if itās an alternate version of him? That the words forever immortalized on his tombstone werenāt āgood soldier,ā but beloved friend and family member? That when they looked into his eyes, they didnāt see him as their āgreatest failureā like Bruce did, but instead, saw their beloved son, brother, friend, husband, uncle, and father?
Even if those titles belonged to an alternate him, even if those titles were given to an alternate him from people in an alternate universeā¦ To Jason, perhaps they described him much better than āsoldierā ever did.
