There are certainly not enough female-centered spaces in the world right now- but conservative spaces are NOT pro-women. We should be focusing on supporting the existing spaces and creating more spaces. As always, if our movement is not centering and uplifting the most marginalized women- disabled, lesbian, women of color, etc.- then we cannot claim to fight for all women. Aligning with the right will harm the movement and harm all women more than it will ever help some women to accomplish short term goals.

So uhh today I was chastised by my sociology professor when I said that FGM and child marriage are inherently wrong and constitute human rights violations regardless of where/why they’re practiced. He said I “can’t think like that” and that I wasn’t using the sociological perspective of cultural relativism. This is why I don’t trust modern type liberalism. Human beings are more important than cultures, more important than “cultural morals”, more important than religion. Women and girls are important. Stop allowing people to hide behind whatever trivial nonsense they choose to spout in order to keep abusing and controlling women and girls.

If you want an example of a cultural moral difference that should be respected, look at cannibalism. Not even kidding. Some tribal cultures will eat their dead warriors as a way to honor their bodies. Some tribal cultures will eat recently deceased family members because they believe the consumption will fuse them with their loved one, so they can be together after death. Some other tribal cultures will eat their dead if there is a food shortage, simply because they see nothing wrong with the consumption of another person. Conceptually, cannibalism is not immoral. Cannibalism that does not involve actively murdering someone, Hannibal Lecter style, is not immoral.

But you know what is NOT a cultural or moral value that can or should be defended? The rape and mutilation of girls and women. Because rape and the mutilation of genitals cannot be defended under literally any circumstance. It is actually an indefensible crime. How the fuck can you justify the systemic rape, torture, and mutilation of young girls? You are actively harming another human being simply because you think they are inferior. How the ever loving fuck is that something that should ever be defended?

Quit being a ~good little tolerant leftist~ and realize that defending someone’s right to have a violent culture means you are dooming another person to forever lose their own right to a culture where they aren’t systemically tortured.

Also, let me just break a hard truth to you. If your culture is mutilating little girls so that grown men can rape them better, your culture doesn’t fucking deserve to exist.

!!! ok but that’s legitimately what it’s doing!! That’s a corvid right there (looks like a hooded crow, to be precise), which means it’s intelligent enough to recognize, a) cars are dangerous and streets should be treated with a certain degree of caution, b) this car’s slowing down for them–cars do that sometimes–which means they’re not in imminent danger, so it doesn’t have to fly away just yet, c) that hedgehog’s still gonna get killed if it doesn’t MOVE, FAST (cars can change speed very quickly and the hedgehog’s still in the way), and almost certainly also d) if the bird does nothing it gets a free lunch.

Y’all, Y’ALL. This bird is consciously deciding to put itself in danger in order to save the life of a very stupid creature. A creature which, if the bird did nothing, could be free food.

i can’t - look if you follow me you know I have a thing for corvids, but this is - like!!! People are always saying “ah yes they have sub-human intelligence and don’t consider anything that isn’t immediately necessary for their own survival/pleasure,” but! Whether or not it can do philosophy, this crow is clearly demonstrating compassion. Even if it’s just the kind of compassion a toddler shows to a snail, a social creature that instinctively recognizes the potential for emotion in other beings, that’s still huge and cool and important and corvids!!! are! neat!!!

My grandpa lives in clarksdale, Mississippi and HATES white people with a passion. I grew up listening to stories like this. His cousins had to flee to Chicago in the 60s for trying to fight a group of white landowners who wanted to hang them for trying to leave the land they worked on.
