What we could have had WHAT WE COULD HAVE HAD
the cozy hopepunk cottagecore reputation people have given ghibli is insane. every ghibli movie is about some combination of: 1) the (often violent) loss of innocence, 2) world war II, 3) the screaming, bloody, inevitable death of the natural world, and 4) airplane

the tone makes this sound like they have a recurring problem with people trying to join after a bad breakup and are just sick of this shit
Oh to be a penguin in a 2000s animated feature
Hilariously funny that they let the guy known for wandering off without warning to look at birds was allowed to do this
#famously few birds in space#probably the safest place to take him

have you ever intentionally gone to the movies by yourself?

hey, don't cry. tiny ancient mosaic glass inlay of a crocodile, okay?
Bad: Video game where the male protagonist dresses up as a girl to sneak into a gender-segregated community.
Also bad: Video game where the male protagonist dresses up as a girl to sneak into a gender-segregated community, except the dialogue periodically coyly implies that they probably know exactly what's going on and are just humouring you for some reason, so it's not like you're really deceiving or intruding upon anyone, right?
Good: Video game where everybody does in fact know exactly what's going on, but they insist upon the charade anyway, because what are you going to do, not save the world? You'll battle gods and brave the Abyss without hesitation, but donning some frilly knickers is too great a price? Of course not – so put on the fucking dress.
I’d personally like to see the male protagonist put on the frilly knickers because they’re being polite and adhering to local clothing customs as part of a diplomatic option.
That's also a perfectly cromulent option, of course. Mine is more "well, if we're going to go that route, let's at least carry it to its logical-yet-absurd conclusion" deal. Like, let's not try to have it both ways – you can titillate with the thrill of the forbidden and accept the unfortunate implications that go with it, or you can assert that nothing untoward is going on because everybody's in on the bit, but trying to do both at once falls flat. Clearly the solution is to have the entire community randomly decide to forcefem the Chosen One.

there should be an episode of mob psycho where an orchestra somewhere is panicking because their conductor has been killed by an evil spirit and reigan shows up thinking he and mob would exorcise the spirit but mob doesnt show up for his own reasons so reigan calls him while standing in front of the orchestra. Mob doesn’t answer so reigan goes on to leave him a very long voicemail explaining the situation but while hes doing so, all his hand movements make the orchestra think hes the replacement conductor. And so they start playing to his hand movements which results in a shockingly stunning and unique performance from this orchestra. People talk about it forever. It goes down in history as a moment that changed music forever etc etc

I have thoughts about the last part:
This is what mass consumerist art has done to the idea of selling that as a product when it's so clearly fine art. Like, with the effort she's putting in x20 for a decent wage and materials?? That's a $80,000 piece of art a member of the landed gentry would commission a year in advance for his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary. This is a priceless heirloom. How can you say "Oh yeah, I wanna buy it, you should sell them" as if you could ever turn something like this into a product??
This is fine art, period. That piece will be in a museum, or if not is should be in a museum in a hundred years.
I just said to my wife, "oh, look at this beautiful autistic person, this is autistic culture," when I sent her the link. And half a second later I said, "and I think she has the same headphones we do."
But truly, this is incredible fine art. Fuck. I love that little moth.
