Nie Mingjue didn't die, when he qi deviated he was just seriously injured and someone close to him (close nie disciple?) was able to save him. He's been secretly in a coma for years and no one not even Huaisang knows. Huaisang meanwhile is aware of Guangyaos role as in canon but makes a mistake while enacting his revenge and is in trouble. Now newly awaken Mingjue has to rescue his brother while also revealing Guangyao for the snake he is. (I just want nie bros feels and mingjue getting revenge)
So... I might have twisted this prompt a bit, since I couldn’t figure out why a Nie disciple wouldn’t tell NHS that NMJ is alive. Instead, I combined the theory that NMJ’s qi deviation canonically doesn’t kill him with my fic “Canary” (an AU where NHS makes a mistake and ends up held captive for years by JGY).
Summary: When Nie Mingjue’s qi deviation only knocks him unconscious, what little part of Jin Guangyao still cares for his sworn brother prevents him from being able to kill him outright. Instead, Jin Guangyao puts Nie Mingjue into a coma and stores him in his mirror--but Nie Mingjue won’t sleep forever.
There was noise outside of the mirror. By itself, that wasn’t particularly strange—Baxia had been forced to listen to lots of things in her and her wielder’s stay. There were the ever-increasing fights between the betrayer and his wife, the calm murmurs when her wielder’s true sworn brother visited. The near constant shaking of chains from the fierce corpse, and the near-silent breaths of her unconscious wielder.
The venomous words of the betrayer, whenever he decided to visit her wielder and bemoan how much he wished they could just talk. Those visits made Baxia shake in her sheath, thrashing against the stand the betrayer had put her in.
How dare the betrayer wish her wielder conscious? He was the one responsible for their current state! He was the one who had driven her wielder to qi deviation and unconsciousness, he was the one who couldn’t bring himself to finish the job, he was the one who chose to instead put her wielder in a coma and stash them both away in this mirror, away from the warmth of the sun and the blood of their foes—
And the noise now reminded Baxia of those visits, though the betrayer wasn’t even in the mirror. He was talking outside, confronting someone with deadly words dripping with sweetness.
“Why did you have to poke your nose where it doesn’t belong? I like you, A-Sang, I do.”
Baxia jolted. A-Sang. She knew that name. That was what her wielder called his blood brother when they were alone. He—he was here? With the betrayer?
“You’re my brother; I don’t want to kill you.”
Baxia howled, raging against her stand. If the betrayer touched ‘A-Sang’! If he deigned—!
“It’s a pity Da-ge didn’t warrant the same feeling,” ‘A-Sang’ spit, and was that truly him? He had always been soft, like a freshly-made sword before it cooled, but Baxia had never thought of the heat he must contain—the heat he showed now.
If only her wielder’s brother knew she was there. She would go to him if called, but as it was, Baxia could do nothing but shake and thrash as she listened to the fight.
But Baxia wasn’t the only one there.

Nie Mingjue’s core stirred first. His qi was more regulated and calm than it had been since before the Sunshot Campaign, his body healed and ready to move—and then Baxia started kicking up a fuss, her spirit calling out for someone to take her up again—and then Huaisang cried out.
Nie Mingjue opened his eyes, and Baxia sang of war and triumph as she flew into his hands.
Nie Mingjue paused only long enough to see that Huaisang wasn’t in this room, and then he stormed through the closest door and laid eyes on his brothers. Meng Yao had drawn Hensheng and pointed her at Huaisang, who only had a fan to defend himself.
Nie Mingjue didn’t bother announcing himself—Meng Yao had forfeited the courtesy when he used underhanded means against Nie Mingjue himself. Instead, he watched with grim satisfaction as Baxia danced around Hensheng and sank into Meng Yao’s chest. Meng Yao’s breathing gurgled and blood bubbled on his lips—Baxia must have found his lungs—but Nie Mingjue turned away.
Huaisang stared at him with wide eyes. His fan had dropped to the floor, and there was a hitch in his breathing that had nothing to do with physical injury.
“Da-ge?” Huaisang’s voice shook. “You—how—”
For once in his life, Nie Mingjue didn’t hesitate to sweep his didi into his arms. He wasn’t sure of the particulars himself, though he did know one thing:
“His mistake was not killing me outright.”
Huaisang laughed, but it wasn’t the giggle Nie Mingjue was used to. It was rough and rasping, and really not a laugh at all, and he couldn’t help but hold Huaisang tighter.
“I’m here, Huaisang,” he vowed. “And I’m never leaving you again.”
Huaisang took another shuddering breath, but nodded into Nie Mingjue’s chest.

Some of you are kinda misunderstanding the consequences of a golden core removal. No, it’s not like being disabled. And before I go further, I'm not trying to downplay how much pain Wei Wuxian went through, both mentally and physically, but it's not like him suddenly turning disabled. He would have been disabled if he had to live with chronic pain after the surgery, but he doesn't. Such a thing is never mentioned and it's more reasonable to assume that he didn’t have it than that he had. Also, Wen Qing was the best doctor of the generation. It's ridiculous to assume that she would leave Wei Wuxian disabled after her surgery.
Golden core is an extra appendage. Without it, you return to the default setting. Wei Wuxian was once again a regular human.
Though, not really. He went through the whole war, not once lagging behind the cultivators. He hit the bullseye blindfolded. He went against 3000 cultivators. In Mo Xuanyu's body, with a weak golden core, he, without a sword, went against Xue Yang.
Wei Wuxian is truly phenomenal, with or without a golden core. His sacrifice of debt and gratitude shouldn’t be disregarded, but it shouldn’t be exaggerated either.
I think it's little bit more complicated than that.
Disability has huge social dimension and in the context of cultivation society not being able to wield a spiritual sword (the only thing we have evidence he's unable to do after losing his golden core) would be a disability. If other cultivators learned about it he'd for sure experience ableist attitudes.
Being able to compensate on those thing your body does not let you do in other ways to match or even exceed the performance of others does not make you non-disabled. It often means you has to put an extra effort and/on adapt in some way.
Rapidly losing ability, that was in some way (emotionally and socially) important to you can be very traumatising even if you can function without particular impediments afterwards.
So in comparison to a person from our would calling WWX disabled does not make sense, but for someone in his particular situation it does.

Viktor walks into the library like every other day and finds it a bit more crowded than usual. Searching for a place to sit, he spots Jayce Talis. He’s facing away from him, hunched over the table, flicking his wand in one hand hitting the back of his head repeatedly, as a quill moves wildly in his other hand. Viktor approaches him quietly.
Coming to stand behind him, he looks over Jayce’s shoulder and watches as he crumples a piece of paper in his hands and throws it away. There are three more of those on the table. Intrigued, Viktor inches closer and tries to read. That’s when he realizes Jayce is mumbling to himself.
“No, this is… It has to be som… ing else. But… What? Ugh. Wha… id I write here?” He lifts the parchment and starts looking at it from different angles. “Blue… do…Dartwing?”
“Butterfly wings.” Viktor says before he can stop himself.

This is 3rd yeah btw! They’re both the same age in this AU.
You may be wondering what happened 1st and 2nd year… well, let me tell you about that in another post! But this is def not their first interaction. I guess it’s a bit like canon, we all see a certain scene as their first meeting, but actually they’d already met.
Note: I personally think Jayce is Hufflepuff at heart but my friend sees him as Gryffindor and it works for me, cause that savior complex gotta go there lmao
I also love when people put them in Ravenclaws, but to me Viktor is more Slytherin (resourceful and ambitious). Plus we already made timebomb Ravenclaws, we needed diversity ahaha
At the end of the day you can choose your house regardless of what the sorting hat says soooo maybe they exercised free will, who knows!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Do you have a Jayvik first kiss headcanon? Because I do.
I tend to have strong hcs for who would kiss who first, and.. Viktor would pounce on Jayce, me thinks.
Nothing at all foreseeable, just after Jayce said something so genius that Viktor simply couldn’t resist it. (Later he would gaslight Jayce into believing it was of no consequence btw lmao but in truth wishes to marry him)
That’s what I was thinking about when I drew this 😅 It was originally a warm up sketch… but you know me, I get carried away.
Picture this.
Viktor visiting the forge because he’s been stuck on the same problem all afternoon. Sometimes he just needs that back and forth with Jayce to get his ideas flowing.
He’s a little frustrated when he gets there. He can’t seem to get anything right. But Jayce, whose mind is fresh and clear from all that hammer work, would absentmindedly just— say something absurdly brilliant.
And Viktor, whose mind has not been that clear or fresh, wouldn’t find any better way to respond than by kissing him on the mouth. Hard. And probably with tongue. Simply because Jayce deserves it.
Jayce would still be standing there, trying to process what the hell just happened, while Viktor goes on and on about their work—having suddenly found the inspiration he’d been missing!
Jayce wouldn’t hear a single word, of course, and when Viktor turned expecting a response he’d realize what Jayce was still stuck on. He’d wave it off. And Jayce, too stunned to speak, would simply follow Viktor to the lab—all brilliant ideas gone for the evening…
Almost as if Viktor stole them through that kiss.
