I do really think that the use of ChatGPT and genAI by students highlights the fundamental flaw of our education system focusing almost entirely on grades and test scores rather than generating curiosity and inquiry, which produces individuals who fundamentally do not understand that the purpose of an assignment is meant to be to learn *how* to do something, not simply to produce a product you can turn in to get an A+

Remember that the feds pressured him into making that illegal modification.
I'd someone is pressuring you to commit a crime, there's a good chance they're a fedboi looking to manufacture a criminal so they can make an arrest.
The feds baited him into sawing down a couple shotguns illegally. Rather than arresting him for it they tried to blackmail him into being an informant. The only reason they went ahead and arrested him was he not only refused to be a snitch but he got the word out that they were blackmailing people to be snitches. After his arrest he was released as he wasn't a flight risk. The court date got pushed back a day. His lawyer fucked up and told him it had gotten pushed back a whole month. The judge had the power to grand him leniency under the circumstances but instead went ahead and declared him a fugitive thus getting the US marshals involved. The marshals spent over a year spying on him. They trespassed onto his property for some more spying and got the dog's attention so they shot the dog without identifying themselves.
Randy's son Sammy sees some stranger in camo shoot his dog so he shoots at the stranger. The strangers shoot back killing Sammy as he ran away.
A family friend named Kevin Harris who was with Sammy shot and killed the unidentified stranger. He ended up getting shot in return. As they ran away Randy's wife held the door open and she got shot in the head.
After over a week someone finally realized they had no real line of communication with Weaver and no real way to try and talk him down. Someone finally just walks up, knocks on the door, and has a conversation.
Harris was dying so they made arrangements for him to go to the hospital. He was charged with killing a federal agent. Finally Randy surrendered and was taken into custody. At one point the feds were so desperate for a conviction they tried to slap his daughters with criminal charges but that got thrown out.
Harris was acquitted for killing a federal agent because they hadn't identified themselves and it turns out "strangers shooting at you" is a pretty darn good reason to shoot back in self defense.
Randy on the other hand was acquitted of the original sawed off shotgun charges because the court determined that was entrapment. Ironically the only charge they got to stick was that bullshit failure to appear. They really killed two people and ruined his life over that because they wouldn't cut a guy some slack for not getting the right court date from his lawyer.
Writing Tips
Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”
omg this is so helpful

It's my 11 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
I feel old
Americans will really live in such luxury and be like ‘the world is ending I live in the most oppressive country on earth 😔’
Honestly a bit how I feel whenever I see Americans wanting to dismantle their government and how everything would be better without it and I'm thinking...
You are like those big, flightless birds from Pacific islands who have lived without a natural predator for so long that you forgot what Danger feels like.
Just a thought from someone who has an aggressive and belligerent country next door who'd happily invade us and turn us into second-class citizens in their empire.
Makes sense considering we've had 150 years of relative peace and prosperity while your country was under foreign conquerors for most of that period.
Yup, US absolutely won the game of Civilization. Rich in resources, large territory, large population, surrounded on two sides by ocean, on other two sides by significantly weaker neighbours. You literally can't have it better.
I just don't wanna be in the belligerent country
While some are absolutely overly dramatic, there is the fact that knowing the US is winning the game of Civilization, we don't want to lose that position either. Winning is a constant battle, so any time it looks like we're going down the wrong path voices rise, often overly dramatically, trying to course correct
I always have to start the New Years with this picture.
Here's a legal PSA:
If you've committed a crime and a detective gathers everyone involved in the room, especially if he's not actually a detective and is instead a novelist, puzzle-setter, psychic, fake psychic, dog, chess grandmaster, etc. ...
YOU SHOULD NOT CONFESS.
Every year, hundreds of people are put away by non-traditional "detectives" who have either inserted themselves into the case or are working with the police in a dubiously legal capacity as advisor. In 99% of these cases, the murderer gives a full confession even though the evidence against them is circumstantial at best and often requires a long just-so story which can only guess at motive.
If this happens to you, stay quiet, do not attempt to defend yourself or talk your way out of it, only say "I want a lawyer".
Now if you find yourself being investigated by a boy genius, magician's assistant, anthropologist, classics scholar, or philosopher, it's likely that refusing to talk to the police (or investigator with no legal authority) is merely the end of the second act, and by the end of the third act they will have you dead to rights.
YOU SHOULD STILL NOT CONFESS.
Make them take it to court. Force the eccentric detective and his straight-laced police partner to take the stand and explain their methods to a jury of your peers. Have your lawyer look at the chain of custody on the evidence, especially if you believe it to have been handled by someone who has only bumbled into detective work through their natural charm and/or unique set of skills and outsider perspective that come in handy more often than they should.
Know your rights. Don't let eccentric detectives put you away.
My arguments for Barriss
She never did anything wrong
It wasn't her fault
Girls are allowed to have hobbies too
Every single character in Star Wars has killed someone
If I had a laser sword at my disposal I'd make some morally questionable decisions too
She's literally babygirl
She's so small and innocent
It was literally me she did nothing wrong
She literally got redeemed in tote
Actually just lay off shes literally just a baby
Literally does that look like the face of a terrorist
Barriss was
1: A healer who survived the Geonosian Arena and likely overheard Kenobi telling the other Jedi about the report of the Senate being under the control of a Dark Lord given how prominent her master was.
2: A Survivor of the arena who likely had some level of survivor's guilt given the horrible casualties amongst people she knew and many top Jedi
3: A Padawan who was repeatedly exposed to Palpatine due to her master's meetings to report to Palpatine, and possibly felt something was horribly wrong.
4: A medic who on the front lines would have seen hundreds of clones dying of wounds, and Jedi sending them to their deaths
5: A survivor of the Second Battle of Geonosis, and a survivor of the brain worms which led to her and the clones around her actively trying to kill one of her friends.
6: A Padawan to a Master who is aloof and very strict, leading to an atmosphere where seeking help or comfort is likely to lead to vague platitudes of trusting the Force rather than any real amount of mental support.
7: A Pilot over Umbara and that brutal campaign. As well as an observer of what happened with Pong Krell and how he had fallen so brutally to the Dark Side.
8: A young Jedi Knight who likely no one listened to when she started trying to raise awareness of the path the Jedi were on. Possibly having some level of Force sight into the future and seeing visions like Anakin of the approaching doom.
Should she have bombed the Temple? No.
But It's not hard to see why in desperation to try and wake up the Jedi to their doom, in a distressed and mentally compromised state, she may have done that.
Finally a personal theory. Barriss didn't kill Letta Trumond. Letta specifically asked for Ahsoka on Barriss's advice as if Barriss wanted her to convey a message to Ahsoka, and Barriss doesn't seem powerful enough to strangle someone through a TV.
But you know who is powerful enough to do that? A certain Sith lord who would have had Anti-Jedi protesters under surveillance, full access to the Republic Military and prison, and motivation to have Ahsoka arrested and as a hostage to leverage against Anakin Skywalker.
Wait those English bastards in Harry Potter were allowed to keep tawny owls as pets right??? AND BRING THEM INTO IRELAND??????????
JK Rowling is the anti-St Patrick she’s here to spead imperialist propaganda and disrupt owl ecology
We have something new for her callout file; get whoever’s in charge of that on the phone
Never thought I’d say this but folks we may need a new harry potter book
As someone who has spent time with professional ornithologists and has seen people make 500-mile trips to see a Single Species Of Hummingbird i can say without a single doubt that wizards being discovered cus they keep bringing their nonnative birds places is a completely realistic scenario
i’m imagining a bunch of very confused ornithologists trying to research the appearance of non-native owls in scotland, but they keep getting turned around by hogwarts’ anti-muggle defenses and it’s this endless cycle of
“well, we know that within this few mile radius of undisturbed highlands, there are massive concentrations of owls that Should Not Be Here. we know the owls are here, we know where they hunt and approximately where they return to roost but we just. we jsut. can’t find a SINGLE fucking nest??? anywhere?????? every owl we tag has their tracker malfunction RIGHT HERE but whenever i investigate i somehow end up back home in my slippers with a cup of tea.”
@somuchanxietysolittletime
I love this so much I almost want to put it in my project
Normal Beasts and Where You Absolutely Should Not Find Them
“A lot of the greatest wizards haven’t got an ounce of logic….”
What is the point of making up these fake stories when there are actual real stories to support your cause?
The problem with student loan forgiveness is that if you don't fix the system BEFORE forgiving loans, then you simply enable the colleges to keep ripping off kids and then the next wave of students will be begging for loan forgiveness in a couple years
hey a local town actually did this!
they planted berries, root vegetables, leafy greens, herbs, all sorts. they label each plant and the sign said "free to take, leave some for others to enjoy!"
and people did. they took a bit, but left some for others.
it also fed the homeless people living around there.
bearing in mind this is a tourist town, so i half expected to see the plants gone. but nope, there's always some left.
people aren't naturally selfish, and they will share. the initiative works
And honestly? Most people who don't need it won't bother to stop and pick fruit. It's only people who actually need it who will devote the time. People with money still have grocery stores.
[Image description: tweet by Black Botanist @CreativeTiana: transcript follows]
I was talking to someone about planting food and fruit trees in public spaces and they were like “Why so everyone can steal the food?”
And I was like “See, that’s the problem right there. Why should taking food off a public tree be stealing?”
"Urban food forest" is something I'm hearing more and more. Do some poking around, there may be an opportunity to help with or start something like this near you.
The problem is someone is going to get sick or something by eating a spoiled piece of fruit, and then try and sue the town.
Key difference is, that one retard's house could be rebuilt in a month or, at worse, he and maybe someone else died in the fire. Here, the explosion blows up literally everything around & nothing can go there for several human lifespans, the ones that aren't hurt by the explosion get poisoned, and the ones that aren't poisoned have to shelter the harmed.
There is less possibilities for it to explode if the ones in charge aren't incompetents commies.
Fun fact, after the Three Mile Island Incident, the worst nuclear disaster ever on US soil, cancer rates in the surrounding community actually went down.
Meanwhile the coal burning power plants that the country relies on for about 70% of all electricity produce one hundred times as much nuclear waste material per unit of energy generated... but instead of that radioactive waste being contained in nice convenient metal drums, it's just atomized and thrown into the upper atmosphere.

#How did the hurricane miss Atlanta given its path?#my dad and I were both confused on that point
The northeast side of a hurricane contains the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall due to the counterclockwise rotation of the storm. The southwest side is weaker.
Which put Asheville in a really bad spot (combined with receiving lots of rainfall prior to the storm). Atlanta was on the "weak" side of the hurricane
If you look at power outages compared to the track of the hurricane you can really see the difference
