Soulmate Cursed, The One Who Ends Alone AU

The idea hit me what if not everyone is blessed with double sided bond.

The bond between Soulmates is considered incredibly sacred like no one can bring you more happiness then your soulmate.

When some who especially blessed when they lose their Soulmate their is a chance they will get a new Soulmate with another who had lost their Soulmate.

Everyone is born with one soulmate their whole life. However depending on how they live they may be cursed with a one-sided bond.

So Dunks soulmate was Rafe he had her name on his arm and they just knew felt the bond and so when she died Dunk was devastated and felt his whole world fell apart.

Aerion has Dunks name and well Dunk obviously does not have his so while Aerion will feel a bond Dunk won't feel anything.

And Aerion is so arrogant he'll be upset that his soulmate is a commoner while Dunk won't understand why this Prince is so upset with him.

Dunk just ignores him and continues on his way but Aerion get pissed that he's ignoring him.

The real reason why Egg wanted Dunk to change his name to Duncan is so that he will miss Aerion. He does not know that they are not mutual soulmates.

Dunk is trying to live his best life while trying to ignore this prince who is suddenly everywhere and is so rude to him.

Egg is hiding in the bushes trying to figure out a plan to get rid of his brother.

Aerion attacking Tanselle is more because hes jealous that Dunk seems to be crushing on her hard while his "Perfect Soulmate" is right in front of him.

In general all the scenes where there’s no words/dialogue, and the music and visuals and actor’s performances are allowed to carry the story instead….something that’s impossible to do in a book. The standout moment for me is the moment after the ring is destroyed, Bard-Dur collapses, and it’s portrayed as.relief beyond words.

THE SOUNDTRACK IN GENERAL

The scene in mount doom that’s like “don’t you let go. Don’t let go.”

The hobbits returning home to find everything the same,  and being heartbroken because they’ve changed so much.. I’m not saying it’s better than the book’s plotline where they returned home to find the Scouring of the Shire™, but it’s impactful in a completely different way

The scene where Eowyn hears Theoden’s last words, instead of Merry hearing them like he did in the books. Again, not necessarily “better,” but impactful in a different way

“my brother, my captain….. my king.”

Flm!Boromir in general. He’s a drastically different character than he was in the books, and YMMV on which version you like better, but I’m so glad film!Boromir is here

Arwen’s expanded role in general, and the way they we actually got to see her make her choice to stay in Middle Earth

That subplot in the Two Towers where Aragorn tames a wild unruly horse, basically becoming the protagonist of a Horse Girl Movie

THE PACING!!!!!!!!!!!! 

The way they moved around a lot of the dialogue to places that made it hit differently. .Like in the books Gandalf says the line “many that live deserve death– and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?” when he’s still in the Shire with Frodo. But in the films, he says it in Moria instead, in his last conversation with Frodo before his own death.

Legolas’ miniature character arc of growing to understand death. Gandalf dies? Just pure shock. He looks like he got punched. Boromir dies? He’s just so. Sad and confused. Like a little kid who doesn’t know what dying is but he knows it’s bad. They think the Hobbits are dead? Legolas bows his head and murmurs a farewell in Elvish, but he still doesn’t seem to comprehend. He thinks Aragorn is dead? He practically shuts down because now he gets it. Battle of the Black Gate, when it looks like Aragorn is about to die? That is the only moment besides Moria when we see Legolas is genuinely afraid.

“Never thought I’d die fighting side by side with an Elf.” “What about side by side with a friend?” “…Aye. I could do that.”

Éomer finding Éowyn after the battle instead of in the middle of it and letting out that gut-wrenching scream.

“They have a Cave-Troll.”

Basically the entire fight sequence in Balin’s tomb, which was much shorter in the book.

That EPIC charge down the mountain at Helm’s Deep. Looks like a freaking Renaissance painting.

Boromir training the Hobbits to fight. It’s just so pure and wholesome.

Actually that whole scene because it’s the one moment—before the crebain show up—that we get to see the Fellowship just being friends without some immediate crisis.

Sam getting to say a proper goodbye to Bill the Pony because I have FEELINGS about that pony, okay?!

Arwen and Aragorn having an essentially telepathic connection. Idk if it’s better than the books, but honestly it’s a good way to expand her character without changing it completely—which is what they were gonna do originally by having her show up at Helm’s Deep to fight.

The Elves showing up at Helm’s Deep. I don’t like that literally none of them survived, but that moment when Haldir said they came to honor the old allegiance of Men and Elves? That is some Good Content.

back on my horse girl bullshit,

today we have thoughts on thunder's replacement

if it's not clear already from the everything about my posts, this is of course all happening in a baelor lives au where dunk takes service with house targaryen.

it's established that thunder is already getting up there in years in the hedge knight, and by the mystery knight the guy that beats dunk in the joust is like yeah your horse is worthless to me.

point being, that sometime in the near future Dunk needs a new horse (in my crack fic version thunder dies but baelor has to lie and say they sent him to a nice farm in the stormlands to retire so dunk doesn't sob about it).

anyways, Dunk needs a new horse and baelors like well you are in service to my house so we'll get you a proper mount from our stables. love thunder and all, but he was kind of jank, you need a real war horse now that you're not a hedge knight anymore.

but Dunk doesn't want that on principle. to him it's a matter of pride, he's like a mans horse should be his own and I'm going to go and get one myself, and he's not completely shit broke anymore, so he can actually buy one.

off we go to wherever people buy horses in westeros, and dunk sees the most beautiful animal. it's absolutely massive and grey, and just has a regal bearing about it. he's like this is the one, this is the steed of a true knight, it's got to be mine.

he haggles with the seller a little, and ends up getting a sick deal. he's real proud of himself too, like wow I have elevated my station so much. I have a prince to serve and a great horse, life is good.

well it turns out the horse was cheap for a reason: it's fucking stupid. like spooky as all hell, low key afraid of other horses, eyes on top of its head all the time. dunks riding it back from the market and it sees a cart coming down the path and just spins dunk off and dips. so then dunk has to go chase his brand new horse around the countryside, meanwhile the guy that sold it to him is like no taksies backsies it's your problem now.

but dunk is a true horse girl, so he's going to fix this. and all the other knights are making fun of his for his wack ass horse, and even baelor is like I'm a prince we can make the guy that sold it to you take it back. Dunk is so stubborn though, like no I love my fuck ass horse.

cue a training montage, with dunk getting dropped every other time he gets on this damn horse, and egg just chases it down like a dutiful squire each time, and they just won't quit on this thing.

and then, finally, a tourney! in addition to training his horse, in this world dunk actually can fucking joust. and even down to the last second egg is like ser I don't know if your horse is up for this, like maybe you shouldn't enter the lists. but dunk is going to prove himself so we just full send. and like he doesn't win the whole thing, but he does a fine job, does house targaryen proud, the whole nine yards.

it goes on to serve him faithfully for many years before retiring to the same nice farm in the stormlands with thunder

So Rocky has a bunch of permanent carvings along his carapace like family crest, rulers and protractors, marriage symbol, etc. I assume thats normal for Eridians, but the possibility that it's socially equivalent to getting full body tattoos for humans is funny. hate to be a horse girl here, but I have thoughts

i think a fun little detail in a fic would be if baelors war horse was a mare instead of a stallion. haters would sort of titter about it, like it implies something about his masculinity/sexuality, like oh baelor only prefers mares on the tourney field or whatever. (I have more on this but I'll talk about that later)

anyways, baelors not a horse girl like dunk, just because I feel like really loving your animals would be seen as sort of common (again I can say more about this if anyone is interested), but he definitely has a favorite and it's this mare.

the mare is like low key rank tho, like a fearsome war horse and all, but is just evil to deal with. like the squires and grooms live in fear of this animal, and nobody can ride it except baelor. but baelor won't hear anything bad about his girl, he's like this thing has carried me in a hundred battles she can bite the grooms if she wants, stay mad about it.

and where I think this could be fun in a fic is like imagine the whole gang getting ready for a battle (or a tourney), and dunks like saddling up thunder and he hears people being like "oh someone has to go get the wench for baelor" and they are talking like mad shit on his horse like she's willful and a pig, and nothing with a cunt should have that many opinions.

but Dunk doesn't know about the horse, so he thinks they're talking about a woman. and he's like first of all since when does baelor have a lover (he's definitely not jealous), and second I can't believe they talk about the princes girl like that, like that surely is not chill. but then baelor rocks up and he's like alright where's the bitch and Dunk is like I've never heard the prince talk about a woman that way and is like a little disappointed in baelor bc that's not chivalrous.

anyway, dunk would figure it out eventually and he would absolutely fall in love with the horse (and also baelor), and I just imagine later down the line there's another battle and baelor gets tossed, and is maybe like gravely injured and dunk is like trying to get to him to rescue him, but he's already fallen of thunder and he took off so he's gotta just hop on some rando horse, and what do you know it's baelors mare, and usually nobody else can ride her but she's like I'll allow it just this once for a good cause.

and I think it all ends with the horse basically playing matchmaker between dunk and baelor because they're the only two people in the world the horse tolerates

i actually have so many more horse girl thoughts on this, and about the horses all the characters would have, just...horses man

Just thinking about Ilya making the playoffs for the first time with the Cens and getting texts from Yuna and David about it.

Yuna's one is like, "HOLY SHIT THE CENTAURS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS! I never thought I'd be so excited to say that. 😂 This is such a huge achievement and I couldn't be more proud of you! This means I'm finally going to have to cave and by an Ottawa jersey. Don't tell David I told you, but he's still drying his eyes about it. Bubbly when you and Shane come over on Saturday for SURE, okay? Love you lots. SO proud."

And David's is like, "You did it, Cap! I know how hard you worked for this and it's paid off. We'll be cheering you on for every game. I am so unbelievably proud of you, kiddo. Love you lots - can't wait to see you and Shane on Saturday."

And Ilya just sits there unable to breathe because he's never had a text like this after making the playoffs except maybe from Svetlana. He replies to the messages, eyes blurry with tears, and spends the rest of the night opening them at random times, just overwhelmed by how loved he truly is.

for those wondering why they're free to take now, it's because the company that made those "chicken soup for the soul" books bought them a few years ago and then completely collapsed so bad they couldn't afford to dispose of or even take the blu rays and dvds out of their kiosks all over.

so any of them is free game because they're all located on other business' property and they usually don't want to have to pay to get rid of them either. so asking the store manager usually gets you the ok to pull it out and keep it.

there was a period of time right after their bankruptcy where you could put in any debit or credit card and it would spit out movies without charging you. you could even put in like an expired or deactivated card, or a visa gift card with a $0 balance, didnt matter, they'd just start spitting discs out. a lotta people raided redboxes for movies for a couple months, with some people doing what me and my brother and my dad did here, taking the whole box and signs and marquees as well. because managers sure as hell don't want a big abandoned piece of trash on their sidewalk disappointing customers. BUT they're also often too cheap to pay someone to remove it. so they just sit there.

luckily there are no shortage of freaks like us who will just take them away on our own volition. we did it all "by the book", too: we set up cones and caution tape, disconnected electricity properly, used an angle grinder to grind down the bolts in the concrete so nobody would trip on them, then cleaned everything up afterward and sealed off the electrical panel so the store would know everything is safe and tidy. though they were hesitant when we were first contacting them, they were honestly very relieved and grateful when we finally took it away, especially once they saw that we "knew what we were doing" (we don't) and look like we've "done this before" (we haven't).

the fun part: the reason why this redbox, in particular, was completely full and unraided is because the computer hardware inside had failed some months before the bankruptcy, and a failing company sure as hell wasn't gonna send a tech out to our podunk dipshit city to fix it, so it was impossible to rent movies or take any discs out. plus, for who knows how long, people were returning old redbox discs to this machine and not taking any out, leading to a much higher variety of movies than your average redbox.

there is a thriving community of redbox hackers and modders out there, as well, creating open-source software for repurposing the machines and not letting their very interesting and robust disc-management hardware go to waste. this one belongs to my brother (who was very annoying persistent and did all the legwork of contacting managers and securing permission) who is a programmer by trade and will be hacking it into a family-access movie library, with whatever discs we want. i mean the machine is completely weatherproof and has a built-in AC unit, it would be such a waste to not try to turn it into something cool.

if we get another one, i'm gonna try to mod it into some sort of art or zine vending machine. the disc boxes are just the right size for small print art or stickers. would make a great "little free library" too.

remember: the rules are made up. act like you belong there and you can get away with anything. this applies to your own life

I think you need hobbies that do all four things but the number of hobbies needed to cover all these needs may vary. Some hobbies pull double/triple duty. Some hobbies can cause repetitive stress injuries so it's good to have a few different ones that fulfill the same need so you can rotate to get the fulfillment without the carpal tunnel.

Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.

At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.

Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
