These few months have been very busy for me—work has been nonstop, I’ve been working hard on my original book, and my husband & I will be moving across states—but I’ve been daydreaming of Chasing Shadows recently, and should have time to continue the story soon 💛

Chasing Shadows: Chapter 5 has been uploaded to Ao3 💪
It's not ready just yet; I'd like to read through & edit a few more times, mostly because I'm more nervous than a chihuahua before a vacuum lol. This chapter was such a struggle to write!! I'll spare you my rant here, but I definitely let loose in my ending author's note 😂 Canon can be just wacky sometimes! Anyway, "The Longest Night" chapter series will conclude in the next chapter (chapter 6), which I'm planning to be much shorter and sweeter/fluffier than this one. For reference, this chapter is currently sitting at around 11.5k words, which is around the same length as a short novella 🙈 why do i do this to myself
Cloud sets out from Zack's corpse with two standard issue millitary pauldrons. By the time Tifa finds him, they have been stacked and bolted together into a single pauldron. What's the story here. Did he do that himself. At what point into being newly homeless and un-comatose did he start stapling his possessions together. Did some citizen step outside for their daily commute and just see a blonde man (visibly not all there) (semi crusted with blood) (eyes glowing with radiation posioning) (lugging around a sword) (sword probably weighs more than he does) just going absolutely ham on the craft store bargain sale.
Cloud throwing up after riding in the helicopter in Crisis Core implies either:
1) He is just stone faced powering through the worst hot girl tummy problems every time they use the airship in VII
2) Or that when he was rewriting his entire personality he unconsciously just chose to forget how to be airsick
Cloud actually did a very bad job emulating Zack's persona, because the defining trait of Cloud-as-Zack is "cool", and Zack wasn't actually cool but he was to Cloud. Zack views Cloud getting to live as a relief and Cloud views it as a curse. Zack thinks saving Cloud was his One Good Thing and Cloud thinks of Zack as the ideal hero and himself as the Mistake. Zack would probably been overjoyed when Cloud recovered his memories because up until his death Zack never really came to terms with The Concept Of Zack Fair, but we know he loved The Person That Is Cloud Strife.
