After finishing the base DLC for Dark Ages I gotta list my favorite bits. Spoilers under the cut.

-The new chain spear weapon took me a bit to get used to, but it's very fun once you learn it. You do get the shield saw again and can swap between the two.

-I love puzzles, and there were some fun map puzzles to solve. Nice break from the combat

-The sense of scale in the environments were amazing. Main game didn't reach this level of scale.

-Soundtrack slapped no surprises there.

Story spoilers:

- This is what I was most excited for. Not only did they adapt Flynn Taggart for the Slayer's name from the novels, good ol Lieutenant Weems was mentioned!

- People don't seem to get that the little girl with the rabbit plush is NOT Flynn's child. She's a random civilian Flynn accidentally kills, along with a dozen others, in a counter-terrorist explosion. Weems was careless in his plan, and that's why Taggart slugged him. Flynn's family is not mentioned.

-Flynn is reported to have been severely traumatized by the explosions and opts into having a therapy rabbit instead of a dog. He's been carrying the guilt of killing the little girl this whole time, even sees her appear to him in a cutscene before she fades away.

- I'm pretty sure Flynn says a few lines in the flashback scenes. Now that I think of it, could have been voices over his comms. But who else would have such a deep voice? Hoping to confirm this later.

Overall loved this DLC and I wish it was the basis for the main story. I think it would have been more interesting as the main game, and have this DLC go into the hell crusades.

In other news iD was gutted yesterday and half their staff was laid off. I really hope they go independent and re-hire them all. Fuck Microsoft.
