My name is Random Citizen. Well... My nickname is, anyway. My real name is Ashlyn, but Random Citizen is fine.

I'm a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints(mormon/lds), so I would appreciate it if you keep sacrilege and mockery of my faith off my page, please and thank you. Also swearing, I don't love swearing...

Idk what else to say, so heres some random facts about me, I guess.

I broke my arm when I was 5.

I'm an INFP(for anyone who know what that means).

I do choir and theater at school, but not solo stuff. I'm ensemble, and that sort of thing. I'm not talented enough for leads.

But I really like singing.

Every once in a blue moon I try to do art, but then I get frustrated and quit. It's a cycle. But I also enjoy drawing sometimes.

I have three siblings, 1 sister and 2 brothers, plus a brother-in-law. My sister and one of my brothers is older than me, and my other brother is younger. Making me a middle child.

My first cat was named Sassy.

I kind of really hate how I look, so you'll probably never see me post selfies.

I've tried to learn instruments, but don't have the motivation to keep up with practice.

I ride horses and stuff.

I'm a junior in hs.

Purple and teal(this is the closest there is to teal) are my favorite colors.

I love hoodies, they're comfy.

I love skirts, they're also comfy(but only long, flowy ones. Nothing form fitting or that falls above my knee).

i'm going to assume, maybe incorrectly, based on your url that you're young, so i'm going to try and be kind when i say this. please take some time out of your day to really deeply ponder and reflect on what it might be like if you were a member of this church who was gay or transgender. you might better understand why people here react negatively to conference talks, and to your posts about their reactions.

Please don't take this as "I hate gay people" or "Gay people are going to hell", because that's absolutely NOT how I mean it.

Acting on homosexual feelings is against the teachings of God. Even if he didn't speak against it, the objective truth is that he designed us biologically for heterosexual relationships. Having feelings is not a sin, acting on them is.

If you believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints is STILL(key word) the true church of Christ, then you should believe what the current prophets teach. If you believe that what the leadership of the church are currently saying is incorrect(including what they teach about homosexuality), then you don't fully bel in what the church stands for today. You might believe in the origins of the church, and the book of Mormon. But if you don't believe the current prophets and apostles, then that means you believe the church has been corrupted. Which means you're no more LDS than you are Catholic.

I urge you to take this information, and the beliefs you already have, and kneel before Heavenly Father in prayer. If you decide not to change anything, that's fine, it's not my place to tell you you're doing stuff wrong. But please just try to think about the logic of it, objectively.

I am always hyper-aware of ways Oaks might be pushing an agenda, but I actually don't think dressing the choir in white is related this time. Of course, white will always have connotations of purity when used in a Christian context, but I feel like this time it's purity in the sense of resurrection/renewal/rebirth, to fit the themes of Easter.

I could definitely be wrong, though. Who knows 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for the ask!

Friendly reminder that literally EVERYTHING has nuance, and NOTHING political is black and white. This includes ICE. Two things can be true at once. It can be true that ICE agents are way too trigger happy, and at the same time be true that they're human. It can be true that there should be a legal process for immigrants to be allowed access into the country, and also be true that they shouldn't be killed for not following that process. There are two sides to every coin. The Internet today is trying to tell you that it's all black and white, right vs wrong. But it's frankly just not. Polorization of opinions is what leads to wars and genocide.

Or were you going into it with an attitude of "He's gonna be homophobic, so it's gonna be bad"? He's going to be the new prophet, you can't just write off what he says because you don't like it. He's called by God to preside over the church, and that's not gonna change just because he's not your favorite GA.

I'm not saying that you have to be 100% gung-ho about what he said. All I ask is that you prayerfully consider it. Maybe this is the wake-up call you need. Maybe not, but you won't know unless you bring it before the Lord with a GENUINE desire to learn his will. With an open heart for whatever He tells you, whether it's what you want to hear or not.

As for Oaks, or any of them being called of God, being called of God didn't stop Brigham Young from being a racist and misogynist. The apostles are mortal men, and sometimes they're wrong. Yes, Dallin, the family is under attack, but not from this trans single mom with 3 kids to feed. Birth rates are falling because no one, not even Mormons, can afford to support the larger families from a generation ago.

There's a saying, "the Church is true, the people aren't always." This applies to the prophets, too. There are records of Brigham Young coming to the pulpit on the second day of Conference and apologizing for what he had said the day before. "That was Brother Brigham speaking," he would say. Even the ancient Prophets were like this, to the point that either Mormon or Moroni has to point it out in the Book of Mormon, claiming errors in the abridgement as his own, and not that of the Lord. Old Testament Prophets frequently do things that contradict what we've been taught to do. Prophets are men. And prophetic infallibity is false doctrine.

This Conference was the first I have listened to in several years. It just hurts too much to hear hate spewed from the pulpit. To be told "come to Church, we accept you, but you'll always be a man." That's not acceptance.

Mayhaps instead of being a condescending jerk to someone going through a mental health crisis by coming in with judgement in spite of Matthew 7:5 due to being taught that they are broken and damned due to the way they are born, you could offer some kind words and consider the part of the family proclamation that says “Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation”, and what could fit under “other circumstances”.

If members of the church were all like you, I could see how that guy could be okay doing what he did in Michigan.

First of all, there were already people expressing sympathy before I reblogged, and I didn't figure one more random stranger doing so would help any. Admittedly I could have been kinder with how I worded it, that's something I'm trying to work on, is approach stuff like this with more kindness.

You can't honestly say you consider yourself a member of the Church and a Disciple of Christ if you won't at least CONSIDER(Prayerfully, ofc) what these Prophets, Seers, and Revelators have said.

If you felt uncomfortable by Oaks', Rasbands, or Cristoffersons talks... GOOD! That means you recognize that you're not currently following the teachings of these Prophets, Seers, and Revelators. So go talk to God, through the Savior, and ask him what the heck you need to change. Go read the scriptures and look for answers. Have a genuine desire to repent. There were talks in conference(not these specific ones) that contradicted stuff I've been doing. So am I going to complain about the person who gave those talks? NO! I'm gonna pray and read the scriptures and make👏a👏change👏👏👏👏👏

Please know that I'm asking this with good intentions and the utmost respect: is the loss of Russell Nelson considered to be the loss of a holy man to LDS members? Is it similar to the Catholic Pope or the Buddhist Dalai Lama? Also, I know LDS believe in Jesus, but do they consider themselves Christian in the sense that they accept him as their Savior? I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you for your help, and I totally understand if you prefer to answer privately. ✌️
