Dazai...what are you doing?
Dazai, don't listen to Mastema.
...Oh god damn it. Game, why the hell did you take one look at people saying Dazai's turn was rushed and the proceed to RUSH IT EVEN WORSE?
Like, before it was just a small hiccup where he jumps off the extremist end. He still showed the process of going from a goofy slacker to a scared newbie to someone looking to Abdiel for guidance to standing tall to talking with Abdiel about what to do and THEN we had the hiccup.
But now? Without Abdiel having enough screentime and having Dazai talk about not needing to rely on other people...even though his whole ass character is that he needed to rely on others due to his upbringing and that someone was God- Now he's just another Knight Templar character.
Well, at least we got Yuzuru's developme-Aaaand he just got stabbed.
... All that time and dedication put into making him a truly fleshed out character with his own beliefs and arc that could have compared and contrasted Dazai's own arc...and you fucking killed him?
Great, whose gonna be the Chaos rep now? Yoko? All she's done is make shallow observations about society and imply she just wants to tear it all down, completely ignorant of the anarchy that would come after. She's a Chaos rep who doesn't even know the logical endpoint OF Chaos!
Now Dazai's mocking Aogami's death and being the strawman everyone made him out to be. Atsuta's dead. And I was denied the closure of foiling the Qadistu.
I get that this is supposed to be a 'all is lost' moment right before the big comeback but...fuck me. Atsuta was doing so well. Dazai already HAD a great arc.
Now all we have left is Tsukiyomi. And he wasn't exactly an impressive character either.
Yay...
I had to disgree with it being rush. I agree it coulf have been done better. But Dazai haf always been extreme and a follower. He always does one or the other to it maximum conclusion. His whole character is what happen when you chase after ideals that arent your own and how that voice from the other can drive you to insanity for the ideals of others and their acknowledgment.
@randomfan13
Sorry to drag your comment out of the replies but I don't think i could respond properly in replies.
Anyway- I actually see your point, especially since 'character who has given up his free will to a higher power but has become a zealot in the process' is actually a good flaw to have in Dazai's original story. Since it shows that while God gives guidance to the unsure and the meek: Said guidance and reliance on it does come with drawbacks.
But the thing is- Dazai's character was focused on the 'uncertain' aspect of his personality and how he sought direction and meaning in his life. But in CoV, his dialogue starts centering on the concept of 'Might makes Right' which, while somewhat tying into his arc through power causing confidence, still feels disconnected. Like, the original complaint with Dazai was that his turn was so sudden at the end of the game. Here, we have that same complaint happening but sooner in the game.
I'll also admit- It's not helped by how much I dislike the endings. I don't think Tao's world would work out (as some desires just conflict with others and how the journey to achieving your dreams with the possibility of failure is integral to the feeling of accomplishment) and Yoko...straight up doesn't have a plan (ironically, her ending would actually have to be VERY Lawful in nature because Chaos means individuality, which in turn leads to differing decisions and outcomes. .. Which leads to that inequality that she hates so much.) So I wasn't in a good mood.
Not saying you don't have a point- just that I don't feel it would alleviate my complaint.
Dazai character is uncertaining and being easily control.
As seen with Lucifer and how he whisper in his ear on how that "If Order is important, then you most be willing to sin for it".
Lucifer essentially manipulate Dazai in accepting that Sin is needed while Mastsa did the opposite. He manipulate Dazai into thinking that Justice is more black and white. As seen with the lack of Nahobino form that is lacking from COC timeline.
His turn wasnt sudden, as it was VERY obvious leading to it. But to me it wasn't more flesh out as onto 'Why' in comparison to he others that were more direct.
As for the endings. Tao made it VERY know Tha y she is aware that just a world is essentially impossible, but not something to be given up on. Tha y struggle and clash in ideals will happen no matter what. But to give up on it cause it seem impossible shouldn't be the answer. That Order and Happiness is impossible hard to get. Which a line with the Normal Order we have in mosy media. The Order anyone should strive for.
While Yoko ending is more making everything from scratch and start from zero where everything was 'fair'. Before God took the throne and ruin it for everyone. But hers was more 'The oppress happen to me and i hate it." Type of reasoning. Hers ending was more selfish and hypercrite in nature that aline with Chaos.
While I do find some of your point agreeable and Im not saying your wrong in any form, as it could mean that in certain aspect.
I think you maybe over thinking it a tad bit here. Like with the African son amd father debate. There wasn't a world change thing. They meant to change their world.
How they should view it rather then changing it as a whole. Yoko and Tao SHOULD have knew that, but they were also projecting their own ideal here in a clear matter.
The endings as a whole essentially sum up flaw, but important ideals t l both characters in question.
