Why you should read Zerocalcare books and watch his Netflix series:
They're funny as hell.
They're really relatable.
The art style is really unique and, for once, it's not an animated show aimed at adults whose art style doesn't look like ass (Looking at you, Big Mouth and other visually appalling adult animated shows).
In the shows, the soundtrack is really good. Ranging from punk to indie, it's full of great songs.
It has great pop culture references who are naturally placed and never feel forced.
The author is VERY anti-cop, he's against nazifascism (the entirety of his second series relies heavily on this thing), he refused to partake in Lucca Comics (biggest comic-con in Europe) because it was sponsored by the embassy of THAT MIDDLE-EASTERN STATE (not saying the name, it's the one who placed 5th at Eurovision 2024 for God knows what reason) and he went to help people in Rojava and Shengal documenting everything in two graphic novels.
Some of his books are translated in English and his two series are dubbed in English, so there are no "language barrier" excuses.
"But I don't have Netflix/I won't pay for Netflix/I can't afford Netflix" I understand you, I'm only suggesting you to watch his series on Netflix because they show the trigger warnings (and there might be some triggering content). That's about it.
"Where should I start?" Any book is fine. Maybe not "Kobane Calling" or "No Sleep Till Shengal" as starters because they are more serious, but any other book works fine. I personally recommend starting with his first book: "The Armadillo Prophecy". As for the series, you go first with "Tear Along The Dotted Line" and then "This World Can't Tear Me Down".
"Should I also watch The Armadillo Prophecy movie?" The live action one? I personally don't recommend it. It's probably not bad, but I didn't like it so I can't recommend it.
In short, read and watch Zerocalcare. You won't regret it.
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
i know folks are gonna call me a pedo for this one, but i grew up seeing my mom and grandma naked. they had health issues and at times needed care and help showering. and i truly think more kids need to be shown the nonsexual reality of naked women at a young age. there is nothing sexual about my grandmothers breasts, they were simply body parts. more women die of heart attacks because people are too afraid of breasts to do real chest compressions, because they are scared to touch their breasts. the sexualization of our bodies literally kills us. i need people to be more normal about naked bodies and i'm 100% serious.
‘Nuclear Family Month’ is so funny as a concept. I have never seen a nuclear family worth celebrating.
The Addams
Do Grandmama, Uncle Fester and the rotating cast of possibly existent cousins mean nothing to you? 😔
I may in fact be stupid
Sora are just little guys that skitter around in the marsh, they don't deserve to be associated with AI.
The 250 year anniversary of the USA is coming up and normally I’d join in on the hype for fun because no matter how critical you are of your country a little performative flag waving is fun sometimes but I’m not really feeling it this year even more than usual.
Which is a shame because the US flag is such a good design to make quilts out of. Like if I were gonna make a US flag quilt this would be the year to do it but alas. The everything.
I feel like if humans swallowed rocks like birds do to help grind up food we'd have so much fun with it.
Can just imagine all the girlies on tiktok going "I know this is a bit controversial but I honestly love using limestone as a gastrolith. Not only can you readily forage it but they are just so pretty when smoothed out after regurgitating them"
and then all the comments would be like " girl 😭 😭 calcite dissolves in stomach acid!! Just use quartz if you want a pretty gastrolith like 💀"
I like this site. Y’all just shotgunning counterfactual timelines
I love you guys but I think a lot of you are the kind of people who are susceptible to falling in with a cult.
You’re right. We should all band together under a trustworthy and influential leader who can keep us safe from outside threats
There's always a moment of intense cultural whiplash whenever I realize I'm talking to someone who thinks "legal" and "illegal" are meaningful categories and ascribes innate goodness to following the law. It's like meeting a space alien.
I am so glad that I live in a world with trans women and trans men and nonbinary people and intersex people. Things are hard for all of us right now, but I love you all and I am wishing that things get better and easier for all of us! ❤️
your twenties are not "late" to start hrt. that is a normal time to start hrt. your thirties are also a normal time to start hrt. your seventies are pretty late to start hrt, but not too late. like, statistically, that's at the end of the curve. but if you are not dead, it is not too late for hrt.
