Hot Take: Holiday decorations are pointless and bad for the environment!
Holiday decorations are, mostly, pointless, and while life is too short to avoid everything pointless, it’s not necessary to spend a huge amount of money, resources and space on decorations that come out for a month every year. Find your favorite decorations, the ones with memories attached to them, love them, save them, pass them on to the next generation or something. I hardly think a sleeve of cheap plastic baubles will have the same sentiment as something you made yourself or received from a friend.
And now. To the environment:
All the microplastic in all the tinsels, glitters, garlands and all that other useless crap is bad for the environment, not just the production of - also the shedding that happens to get thrown in the trash, down the drain or manages to get into nature one way or the other.
Also - people who buy new decorations every year are contribution to extreme resource consumption and rampant capitalism, which is also bad for the environment, You can make so many decorations easily with shit you find outside in nature, sticks and stones don’t just break bones, they also make a nice decoration. Of course I can understand people living in suburbs or cities having issues doing that - it’s probably more expensive to travel outside the city limits and find the things than paying for the cheap baubles at the local corner store.
But like, if you feel you can - think twice before you buy another pack of shaped glittery plastic for whatever holiday you’re celebrating.
If you want.
I can’t force anyone.
