I recently rewatched Grand Budapest Hotel. I was waiting for this shot. People often ask why movies cost so much to make. This shot was used for maybe 3 seconds. Im sure a few grips spent the better part of a day securing this rig. It needed to be safe enough to support not just 2 humans, but the principal talent. Always respect your crew. Both these images equally disgust me. At first only the second one did. Shit gear and just trying to copy the top image. Then I thought about the top image for a while. Who the fuck has that much free time and self inflated ego to take a picture like that? People need to get back to work and stop worring about how many followers they have on instagram. Almost all my on set photos are crap. Why? Because Im always working. And when I do snap a pic, its because my work has been completed and the client is not around. If I saw a prospective contractor with either one of these pictures, they would be out the door in a minute. Maybe then they would have more free time for grandiose selfies.
