MC Command Center 7.5.2 Hotfix is out!

The second hotfix for MCCC/MC Woohoo for EA’s Snowy Escape expansion and the November 10 update is 7.5.2.  This fixes all known issues with EA’s release found to this point.  People may find other issues as time goes on and, if they’re critical, I’ll release other hotfixes to fix them.

Spring Cleaning Your Downloads: tips!

Personally I try to keep the amount of CC I have in my Downloads under 6Gb, currently it’s hovering somewhere around 5.2 and I don’t feel like my game is particularly lacking in anything. I haven’t timed it but my TS2 loads into the neighborhood view in 5-10 minutes and having to wait only a little is a delight every time.

I like organizing junk, uncluttered menus, maintaining playability and quick load times. I don’t like having to wade through recolors endlessly just to find the handful I actually use. I don’t bundle anything, as I prefer to keep the option to as easily as possible delete things over the pros of merged content. I thought I’d share some things that for me have proven to improve the game and experiencé.

This post by sushigal: The duplicate file finder linked in this has removed the option for mass deleting files from the free version, and I don’t know of any similar program with the feature, but other than that, A++ very useful tutorial, required reading!

Hoarding! Ask yourself: Do I use this thing? Do I use it a lot/right now/is there something about it that stops me from using it? Toss it out into your backups or trashbin if you have to think about the answer longer than a few seconds. This goes for meshes, sets, single lipstick colors, everything. Konmari without mercy, see if you’ll actually miss that bedding you never used. Let it go.*

Classic move: If you use Bodyshop a lot, separate the cc into folders by non-bodyshop and bodyshop content: that way you can easily take out the NBS stuff when running it. Faster and lighter load! Just plop the rest back in when you run the game.

Filenames: All special characters, spaces, and even hyphens seem to give the game hiccups, and make it load slower. Regular letters and underscore are fine. Bulk Rename Utility is a lifesaver so you don’t have to rename everything by hand. I’ve run all my downloads through it removing everything I mentioned and replacing all the -s with _s. Doing that reduced loading times considerably.

Combination of the above two: Minimizing the amount of subfoldering and length of filenames didn’t hurt either.

The Compressorizer: I’ve noticed people have stopped using it? Did I miss something? I run everything I make and download through it to get rid of unnecessary bloat. As far as I know, nothing gets broken if you compress a file more than once.

(*Mandatory footnote: of course, people are different, and some use all of the recolors they have. I’m not telling you can’t do that or how to play your game. You do you. Just saying if you never use something, why keep it?)

Also just want to add: I see people occasionally complaining the compressorizer doesn’t work for them, but afaik no one’s followed that with investigating if it’s a Win(10) incompatibility or what exactly, just stopped using it. I don’t use 10 so I can’t work that angle with testing personally, but would love to solve this. Why should we settle for wasting bandwidth with bigger files than necessary going up and down, and slowing down games when we really don’t need to? Yes I pulled the first person plural community card

Personally I have had zero issues in the 11 years of using the compressorizer (download page), happily shaving extra off the same files several times after making tiny edits or by accident. No issues, no danger. Personal experience. But to be safe and certain, absolutely do make backups of your files if you need to before compressing them!

AFBodyDressLongHug replaced with DeeDee’s 3t2 conversion of Anubis’ Endlessly Together dress. Since DeeDee only made three recolors, I used some of Raptor’s recolors to make up the difference. The dress being replaced is the one Titania wears when you first play Veronaville (but she’s not modeling the dress that replaces hers, Goneril is because I’m a dumbass).

It’s available as everyday and formalwear, comes in the colors shown above, and has all morphs (Olivia’s modeling the pregmorph). Since the outfit being replaced is from the base game, you don’t need any EPs installed for it to function properly. That said, I’ve given you the option to also have it enabled for young adult sims (if so, use the file in the “YF-Enabled” folder). Finally, since EAxis decided to be mean and hide one of the dresses, I made sure that all of them are visible and available to wear.

Tumblr is getting a facelift

Some time ago we took a long, hard look at how we stacked up to the recommendations outlined in the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium. This is the initiative that sets standards for accessibility for people who may need assistance using the internet. It outlines steps to take and tools to use to create as seamless of an experience online as possible, whether you have auditory, visual, or neurological disabilities, are using a limited device, are on a slow connection with limited bandwidth, or…well, a whole bunch of other reasons.

The result of that long, hard look? Not great. We needed to make sure Tumblr was accessible to anyone who wants to use it.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been making changes to do just that. Our inaccessible menus are more accessible, we fixed our poorly described elements, and increased overall readability. You can read more about all that in our most recent @javascript post about the mobile web.

Part of making Tumblr more accessible involved upping the color contrast in our UI, most notably on the dashboard and everywhere else that familiar blue touches. The light grays and muted blues had a contrast ratio of 2.02:1. What does that mean? Bad. It was bad, and we needed to do better by people with visual impairments.

Enter your new dashboard:

It looks…cleaner, doesn’t it? Like someone dusted off the poorly accessible bits. The blue is darker, the grays are lighter, all the buttons and icons are brighter with our new brand colors, and it has a contrast ratio of 7.87:1 What does that mean? Good! Very good.

The switch to your brand new, higher contrast, less dusty dashboard has been slowly rolling out this week. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll get it sometime in the next few days.

A note: We know that this color change on the dashboard negatively impacts the beautiful bluespace art so many of you have created over the past few years. Seeing these older posts lose the utilization of the dashboard—something that made them so special and unique to just Tumblr—is certainly not a great feeling. There’s no way around that. We hope, however, that this change only means newer, more bluespace art will be created, and that this time around it will be easier for everyone to experience.

Goodbye, #36465D. You’ve treated many of us well, but #001935 will treat every single one of us even better.

While I understand and even support the intent here, wouldn’t it be a better idea to make it so that users can set their own dashboard colors, brightness/contrast levels, fonts and font sizes, etc.? Not all visual difficulties are created equal, after all, and while one solution might work for one set of users, the same solution might give other users with different issues more difficulties. Like, migraines, perhaps even seizures. Treating “every single one of us better” with only one option available is, frankly, a flat-out impossibility. The problem would be solved by allowing users to set their own dashboard preferences to suit their individual needs, or, if that’s not possible, it would be better addressed by offering a several different options from which users can choose, one of them being the “classic blue.” Which I never saw anyone complaining about in the first place.

Excellent point! I suffer from lovely little migraines that like to randomly show up. The #1 way to guarantee one is from my computer screen. I already had a screen dimmer that removed blue light to help with this problem. This new high contrast blue gives me a migraine in record timing. I’m sensitive to light and your changes have made it so much worse for me. A adjustable dashboard would do us way more good. Dark mode on sites has saved me so many headaches and the ability to edit my tumblr to be darker and less contrasted would help me greatly. @staff
