Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.

I wish I could make white people(and not just white Americans) understand how diverse the pre-columbian Americas were. The history, religion, culture, politics was at least as complex as Europe's. There was the full gamut of religions, from monotheists to animists to ancestral religions. There were city building empires, village farmers, nomadic traders, and so many other ways to live. This is all just based on what we know, the fragments left behind and the stories of survivors of an apocalyptic plague. All this before the most extended campaign of genocide in history was waged in an attempt to wipe out those survivors.
Over 500 years spent trying to cut down a whole trunk of human culture.
Do you understand how much poorer our whole species is because of it? Can you imagine where art, religion, and science would be if we still had these vast bodies of knowledge? The stain of the colonial project will never be fully washed clean. We owe more than just the land to those we stole from. In Black Earth, Timothy Snyder brings up what he calls the Auschwitz paradox: it is important to remember Auschwitz and what happened there, but by being in such prominent position in remember the Holocaust, it makes people think that Auschwitz was the only extermination camp. Most people cannot name others. Most people also do not know that the Holocaust didn't start with Auschwitz, it started with bullets and mass graves like Babyn Yar.
It's really a testament to how inadequate Holocaust education is and from what I hear, it's gotten even worse.

Varsexism (and intersexism and transandrophobia) is how a family member of mine ALWAYS tells me I'm just a "male with a DSD," and that I'm not actually intersex, and I shouldn't call myself a trans man. I have told them that "DSD" is a derogatory term for intersexuality before, but they tell me that's not true and that it's just a medical term, and it makes me so mad.
They will not accept me being a trans man, even though I have so many stereotypically transmasculine experiences! I bind my chest, I am on T, I voice train to have a lower voice, I even pack sometimes! How is that not transmasculine enough for them??? Enough with the "male with a DSD" bullshit. I am an intersex transmasculine trans man.

You don't have to have those specific experiences to be transmasc. Transmasc is a broad spectrum and doesn't dictate what body parts you were born with/developed during puberty [link]. (This link specifically goes over trans manhood, but if you replace "man" with "masc" the message is the same.)
"Transmasc" just means you are trans in a masc way. That is all. You could be transitioning from feminine woman to butch, woman to man, woman to masc nonbinary, binary man to nonbinary man, woman to man to masc nonbinary, man to woman to man again, Westernized man to culturally gendered masc, etc, etc, etc. Transmasc is not one strict type of transitioning.

The argument that trans men and transmascs are overrepresented in feminist and lgbtq activism is a particularly rancid and stupid argument for a lot of reasons but one is because it directly conflicts with the idea that they "have no culture" and "do not contribute anything real to the community." With a heavy heart, I come to you all with the news announced by close friends of Cat Frazier that she had passed away on Monday, June 29.
She had been running @animatedtext since 2012, with her impact on the internet SHAPING tumblr. If you have a years long history on this site, you’ve seen her art.
She ran a venue in Oakland called Oakland Secret, a punk venue where I’d vend at regularly as an artist. She made a safe space for queer artists, artists of color, and local furs too. I am forever grateful for her work both in the Bay Area creative scene and online, and am forever changed by the totality of her impact.

apparently, cats' kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body's ability to do just that. dude cracked the case about WHY kidneys fail, across the board as far as i can tell. turns out there's a specific molecule whose job it is to attach to waste and signal macrophages to come eat it. it remains inactive in cats for some reason, but the molecule is still there. basically what he's done is found the switch to activate them. this will be profound not only for our domestic babies, but for big cats too - especially cheetahs!
although his research was focused on cats, it's already being used to develop drugs for humans too!
on top of that, since these molecules are tags for waste, this could also dramatically lower the rate of fatty liver disease, liver cancer, urinary crystals, rheumatoid arthritis, and even some neurological cases! like, they're hoping it may have an impact on parkinson's and alzheimers, but it DOES have an impact on stroke recovery. like. holy shit.
furthermore, he's insisting that the feline drug be affordable if and when it rolls out onto the market. he wants this to be something anyone can get for their cat!! idk how much sway he'll have over the human drug, but hopefully enough that it, too, won't be that expensive.
annnnnd in his research that he's still doing for the human side of things, he's found a potential link between this molecule and estrogen. in the 20,000 samples he's tested, women between ages 10 and 29 had the highest amount of this molecule present in their blood (a higher amount means Something Fucky is going on, essentially. There's a higher amount of waste the body is trying to clean out) but it drops down to be almost equal amongst men and women after menopause. it hasn't been looked into yet, but fuck, just the fact it's noted and known and probably WILL be looked into soon??? imagine if this is what leads to figuring out all the various ways the ovaries and uterus fucks with people and how to fix it. or even like, maybe there's something about estrogen that makes it work better. who knows! but it's rad the link is there to be researched :D
