This is a fresh blog but i have been around Tumblr since like 2012!

I write a lot but haven't posted anything to the net before this point. This blog is mostly for my fandom stuff but i might post the crafts i do from time to time.

I love getting asks and ranting about fandom stuff, science stuff, and the literary analysis of video games. I also love table top games but do not like D&D as a system. I am a forever GM who can and will make there own homebrew system for shits and giggles. Word of warning I cuss a lot and my spelling is horrid.

The thing that got me into science was completely missing my registration deadline my sophomore year of college and having to sign up for whatever was available, which happened to be a geology class. The professor was a contagiously enthusiastic woman who dressed like a mash-up between Dolly Parton and Mrs. Frizzle, who told stories like the one about the time where she was on her way to a formal dinner date with a guy (the kind of thing where you make reservations ahead of time) and saw an outcrop of garnet mica schist on the side of the road, so she had her date stop the car so she could go examine it, IN HEELS and then asked her date if she could carry samples in his car (there was no second date)

and the other time when traffic was stopped on the interstate and she was next to a road cut between high cliffs (i’ve seen the place she was talking about it’s fucking Hazardous) so she got out of her car and started CLIMBING THE CLIFFSIDE and a cop told her to get down and she was like “oh trust me im a geologist”

SAG-AFTRA IS STRIKING AGAIN

This time, for video games.

Some key information:

They are striking so all performers will have protection against AI

The struck companies are those signed to the Interactive Media Agreement

The listed companies by SAG-AFTRA include Activision Productions Inc, Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc, Electronic Arts Productions Inc, Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc, Llama Productions LLC, Take 2 Productions Inc, VoiceWorks Productions Inc and WB Games Inc. Though this may not be everyone.

Important things from the FAQ:

Some games from struck companies are non-struck (due to the Collective Bargaining Agreement still being in effect)

Localisations will be affected if covered under the Interactive Localization Agreement

Actors who are part of SAG-AFTRA cannot work for non-union or independent/low-budged productions during the strike unless they are signed to an Interim Interactive Media Agreement, Interim Interactive Localization Agreement or a Tiered-Budget Independent Interactive Media Agreement

Similarly to the previous strike, struck work cannot be promoted. This includes accepting awards for performances in struck games. This does NOT include hosting/performing a skit at an awards show and San Diego Comic Con (the latter due to the close proximity to the calling of the strike)

As implied by the point above, SAG-AFTRA performers cannot partake in panels related to struck games or companies, including finished games produced by struck companies

The best way to check if a game is struck is to use the search tool provided by SAG-AFTRA

Most importantly: You are NOT being asked to stop playing video games, as highlighted in the FAQ for creators and streamers. This does NOT cross the picket line. Though please do talk about the strike and show your solidarity

I expect to see the same amount of support from y'all that we saw in the last strike. Just because it's video games doesn't mean performers deserve any less support and protection.

They'll tell you their favourite game when they were a kid was, like, a point-and-click visual novel whose protagonist dreams they're a vast formless sea monster that learns about the concept of colours after finding a discarded helium balloon, or a hypertext fiction/precision platformer hybrid exploring gender as a mechanism of social control, and you think they're either being pretentious or deliberately fucking with you, but no, that's just what the indie gaming scene was like for a couple of years there. The sea monster thing got a front-page feature on the same site that made Bloons Tower Defense a household name – it was literally played by millions of people.
