I've not seen anyone considering this and it is genuinely taking over my mind so.
It says "caine-core.lisp" first appeared (I don't know much about this, but I've got a wikipedia page for Lisp open in another tab and enough very limited experience with a handful of other programming languages that I can at least sort of get the gist. I'll mention each time I need to open another wikipedia page) on October 15, 1996, which is the date Kinger is searching using, persumably because he remembers that that's when Caine's source code file wqs created, or something along those lines (Lisp was often used for AI research and still is to this day), except. Why is the file named caine-core.lisp? I mean, obviously it's a Lisp file, wikipedia tells me that makes sense, though there was a decline in popularity in the nineties in real life, but.
Caine wasn't originally named Caine. We've known he picked that name himself for some time now, and Kinger outright states he doesn't remember what he originally called him (which I've already considered as a reason for the problem, since Kinger's conjuring the code, except certain parts he's obviously got zero control over keep popping up, so it's probably more like a connection to Caine's actually code than Kinger directly conjuring it), which means that unless Caine changed the file name for HIMSELF when he picked his new name (absolutely a possibility, but a less interesting one lol), that file with Caine's source code isn't actually the very original.
Furthermore, look at this:
The "Digital Circus Mainframe," from fifteen days after the aforementioned date, is part of the system "KingSolution 2.0," and we know that it's also inherently linked to Caine's programming, since when the latter is deleted, the whole circus goes with him. It probably doesn't reference the second AI (hereafter referred to as Abel, since why not + it's faster and catchier), since I got the vibe that Kinger wasn't as heavily involved with that one's creation as with Caine. This is, presumably, Caine 2, a latter version or a copy or even a secret extra AI, although my money's on the first of those three options. Why is that?
Well, look at the dates in the training data:
This has the earliest one: a calander from January 1995. Nothing special about it that I can see, but I could be missing something. Even with the original episode on youtube on highest quality available and zoomed in I can't make out what any dates have written.
This is probably Kinger's office, or maybe Queenie's. This calander is for March 1995, and has some dates on it with notes: the sixth is circled, there's a leek on Miku day, pi day has the pi symbol and "EAT PIE", and the 24 and 25 have "SOFT DEADLINE" and "HARD DEADLINE" respectively. Might not matter still, but information is information.
The date in the bottom right of this one I cannot for the life of me read. It's either 10 14 '95 or 10 4 '95, and no amount of turning up the quality is helping. It's from the first data set, and thus the first dated image of the samples we get shown to Caine in training.
This one's date is way more legible, clearly reading 2 10 '95. The spacing implies that the above image's date is 10 14 '95, meaning that the dates in these two images are in MM DD YY format, placing them, if true, at October 14, 1995 (a day and a year before the first appearances of a great many things in Kinger's search) and February 10, 1995 respectively, and since while I'm not sure if the show has been confirmed to take place in the US, it does seem likely, this formatting is also likely.
If I've got all of these dates right, and there's not any other images with dates that I'm missing, this places the very most recent of the dated training data at a year and a day before caine-core.lisp first appears. Now, it's possible I'm seeing connections where there are none, but I think it's not only possible but likely that Caine's original programming, and the entire training sequence, might have happened well before that file, presumably containing Caine's source code, came into existence.
The way this makes the most sense to me, at least, is if that file was created after a major change to Caine's programming. It also was likely around the time he picked the name Caine for himself. And it was a date Kinger found memorable.
It is for these reasons that I think that October 15, 1996, is when Caine consumed Abel.
Further evidence: Caine was fully functional before Abel was even created, if we take the timeline the opening gives us fairly literally, showing events not in real time, but still in their actual sequence. It also shows Caine creating the circus only after consuming Abel, which we know happened on October 30, 1996. If you try to tell me that C & A programmed a whole-ass AI in less than fifteen days I will. Well, I guess I don't know that much about it, and they might have reused a great deal of Caine's programming, but it seems unlikely.
This has further implications but it got long, think about them yourself.
